Pickwick Lake Smallmouth
In this video I am on Pickwick lake a TVA impoundment in Florance, Alabama. Using one of my favorite techniques, spinnerbaiting for prespawn bass. Stained water with current using heaving thumping blades, fish are in a feed up mode and will chase and move from cover to come get this lure. Always be aware that alot of bass will follow this bait quiet a ways before striking, many of these strikes come close to the boat on short line, having your drag not locked down is a key to not losing some of these fish. #castawayrods

On this early day in March 2019 it's post cold front. Air and water temps in the upper 40s to low 50s. It had been very warm the week before and water temps had been in the 60s. I target pre spawn and spawning fish. Best 5 around 24 lbs, with the bites to have busted 30 lbs. My day was highlighted with one of the most beautifully colored fish i've ever seen, extreme amount of melanistic spots.

No comments, I thought this was pretty cool. I have found at 64 years old returning to fishing that side arm is easier in the beginning . I am still working on my accuracy and overhand cast.

What was with all the spots Blake, I fish the Pines to and haven’t seen that before.
I see it more often during the pre spawn, personally I feel when the fish move shallow around cover and start to darken their lateral lines (vs when they look white in winter habitat) it's just melonistic spotting in overdrive. That fish was in a small patch of grass I was fishing.
I finally caught a 4.1 @ Alley that had a black spot on each side while night fishing this fall but it definitely wasn’t spotted up like yours
I hate to tell you but any pro would agree that the shad spawn doesn’t happen in blue bird skies. Only in the first two hours after daylight at most (if it’s cloudy) will you catch those shad spawn bass. I imagine most of those fish you caught were seeking bluegill. Not being rude but just wanted people to know the specifics of the shad spawn

What do you estimate the weight was on that big girl? 6ish? I’m sure the camera view differers from the “live” view. Either way, she looked like a giant from where I’m setting.
