You're exactly right. I have a door gasket I am adding to mine and will be testing it out soon. I found on my Camp Chef stove that it's a "must" in order to control the heat better. Great point and thanks for leaving the advice. Rick

It's definitely more than a 1-person tent, but the way I set it up with the cot, table, chair, etc...for me, it's a one person tent. This is a great tent though and I was extremely impressed how it withstood the thunderstorm and high winds. Rick

I'm widowed with a small boy and when we go camping, I need to know that the tent is not going to blow down because unexpected weather blew in. We only camp at state parks for right now so I have to plan way out and there's no telling what the weather will be. These really are some nice tents.

Mike has a different fire mat than I do and he only has one. I bought two fire mats and have them overlapped some to give more distance in front of the door to the wood stove but it also is doubled layered directly below the stove. No I did not, but now after several thunderstorms and no leaks, I'm hoping everything is okay, however, I will look into curing the tent for future tents and other camping trips. Thanks for the tip. Rick

This is a Kodiak Canvas 10'x10' Cabin Lodge Tent SR (stove ready). Mike has the same tent in a 12'x12'. Both of these tents are incredible and are perfect for extreme cold weather and summer weather here in Colorado. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick

They both can lock into place in a seated position. Everyone in my family prefers the Cabela's cot because they don't fall over when they sit on the foot of the cot. Rick

Great points. I'm looking into the diesel heater now but hadn't given any thought to the electric blankets. I love these canvas tents though and now I know to look for the door a little better. Also, I like using these in the summer because you can get a lot of air flowing through the tent to keep it cool, plus this tent holds up better then any other tent I've owned in a severe thunderstorm. It absolutely is. It's a canvas tent set up for a wood stove. You may have a different definition of 4-season, but it is listed as a 4-season tent and I have used it many times here in Colorado in temperatures down to 12 degrees F and I have been extremely warm with several different heating sources. Thanks for the advice. I'll look into that tent. Mike has the 12'x12' tent and that may be better with two cots, especially if you add a table, the wood stove, a table, and two chairs. On bad weather days, you may like to be able to spread out and enjoy the inside of the tent more. The 10'x10' is perfect for me but I would really consider the 12'x12' tent, depending on what you put in the tent. Let me know if you have any questions. Rick

Thanks for the tips. I have used this tent 5 times since buying it and one of those times was in a massive thunderstorm that almost took down some less desirable tents, and it held up really well and did not leak. I haven't checked the instructions lately but I'm wondering if I should season the tent now. Rick

I used tent several time in the past two summers here in Colorado in temperatures in the 80's at least, and in full sunlight. I was able to open all of the windows and doors and I was impressed with how nice it was with all of the openings. I was concerned that it may be to warm, but honestly, I was just as happy with it as I have been with my 3-season tents. I also like this tent better as I have had several intense thunderstorms roll through and some of the 3-season tents around me were blowing over, and this tent didn't hardly move. I have been extremely impressed with it. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick

I have two small vents at the top of each end of the tent, plus I usually open a small section of a window to help with the ventilation. On the last trip, I had both a convection fan on the Big Buddy heater, and on the wood stove when using it, plus I did have a battery operated ceiling fan. Both of these fans helped to distribute the air much better. Great advice though. Thanks, Rick

Great question. The issue we had was getting the fire hot enough to cook the apple pie. Important Tip: Don't try cooking an apple pie in the oven. The temperature needed to be about 400 degrees F and we could never get it there and it about drove us out of the tent due to the heat. I now only cook things that need to be around 350 degrees, so increasing or decreasing the openings in the door and on the pipe is what's needed to increase or decrease the oxygen flow. The heat is all controlled by the stove. Let us know if you have any other questions. Rick

It was glowing red because Mike was trying to get the oven temperature up to 400 degrees when baking the apple pie. We won't be doing that again and other things he cooked, the pipe was not red or barely red. Main point here. The pie tasted great but it's not worth doing due to the high heat required. Good point. I haven't had any trouble with the floor getting too hot after the last 4 or 5 camping trips, but I do have some heat shield mats that I could use. Thanks for the tip. Rick

I do have a hose from Mr. Buddy, and I also have a fan like the one you're referring too, so I have two of the three, and you're right, they both make a big difference, especially having the fan circulate the heat in the tent better. That's funny, because Mike lives in Oklahoma and had is 12'x12' canvas tent setup and it also withstood a major Oklahoma thunderstorm. I lived there also for 33 years but now live in Colorado. Thanks for letting us know about how well your tent held up. Rick

Thanks for the information. I'll check out the hammer drill, but will make sure it has more power. The one problem I see with the tent screw method is that it does cost a lot more to buy the hammer drill over the cost of a rubber mallet, however, this is something I really want to test, as these cabin style tents have so many stakes. Rick

Last year was my first time with canvas tents and heat sources, and now I have a stove ready tent and I absolutely love it. I'll be heading out on some cold weather camping this winter and will be going out before a significant snow storm so I can see how well my 10'x10' tent does under a heavy snow load. Wow! Great Advice! I'll check these products out, plus the knot types. I found out the first time I set the tent up in this video here. th-cam.com/video/FAIHusgwOcw/w-d-xo.html, that the paracords attached to the carabiners will end up burning the paracord. I switched to the chain for the tie downs on our last fishing trip and actually talk about this issue in the video. I just haven't had time to upload that video yet. Keep the advice coming. As far as being polite, it can be a challenge at times and I have blocked a few people from ever seeing the channel again who were extremely toxic, but Mike and I are here to share our adventures, show people how we're learning, plus learn from others like yourself. Uploading quality videos may be the most important part of this business, but engaging with viewers is a close second. Rick

Thanks for the thumbs up. So, that was Mike with his 12'x12' tent and I bought the 10'x10' tent in October and used it on our fishing trip near Telluride about two weeks ago. Your comment on the 12x12 hits home a little because I was having issues with my tent getting to hot when I ran the wood stove. I'm currently working on some things on the Camp Chef Alpine stove to reduce the oxygen getting into the stove so I can control the heat better. I have about 10 camp videos from that trip that are going up soon (and it's the same Reservoir in the video where Mike put up his tent), plus I just put up a video of the trout catches from the trip. Tell Mike to use a Sharpie and mark the bottom of the tent with "Front" on the two innermost quarters so that no matter what order he folds it, "Front" will be written on the top of the outer fold. It's partly the 7700 feet in elevation and putting up a heavy tent by myself. I'll try to cut down on the breathing because it irritates me too. MIke

We have used these several times in extreme cold weather but not in heavy snow. I'm going to be doing a lot of winter camping this year in my Kodiak Canvas 10x10 tent so I'll make sure I set it up before a big snow storm to test it. I'll probably get the middle support pole for that trip. Also, besides Mike's 12'x12' cabin lodge tent, I have the 10'x14' Flexbow tent, and the 10'x10' cabin lodge tent. Both cabin lodge tents are stove ready and both Mike and I have wood stoves. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
