2012 Ford Focus - Lower Front Control Arm Replacement
follow along in the short video how to remove and replace the front lower control arm. the video focuses on the passenger side because its slightly more work due to having to loosen and move the a/c compressor in order to access one of the control arm connecting bolts. Otherwise, the driver's side is exactly the same procedure minus the a/c compressor.

Good video….very well done
@@erikostergaard9413 I trust I was able to help you with your project.
Well done! The perspective descriptions, steady rate of speech, and part numbers were SUPER helpful.
@@lemauser646 thankful I was able to help. Cheers!
Thank You For This Video And For Putting Into Simple Layman Terms!!!😊
@@SandraHarthun glad to have helped. Good luck on your project.
How did you remove the plastic rail on the roof ? Did you use some special tool ?
follow this link for an easy explanation and several photos. just be mindful that the plastic clips that hold the trim onto the roof cannot be purchased separately....other than going to a salvage yard you'd have to get a brand new trim piece (metal trim and plastic clips) as an entire unit. just exercise care and you'll pop it off easily. good luck! Some shit ford would do, run the AC in the most inconvenient of places but very helpful video 🙏
@@lincolnhuggins4258 glad I was able to help you!!
hello if your water pump is stuck you can use a plumbers wrench with a pipe to give more leverage after you take off the water pump pulley and bolts
@@MrJohn324 thanks for the tip…… wish I would have thought of that before. Will use that tip if I have to change it again. Car has 192K miles on it and is still running strong so I may have to do it again in the future.
Need the part number of the master cylinder
@@madelinebryant7911 the master cylinder I used was from Raybestos. Part number is MC36222. The important thing to remember is to purchase a MC that is for manual breaks (non-power) and is for drum breaks (non disk break). Look up ‘67 Mustang with a 200 CID, in line 6 cylinder engine on Rock Auto and you will have several manufacturers and quality options to choose from. Good luck.
Hello is this repair or replacement
@@mohamedbenhadja3921 this was a replacement water pump. I did not rebuild the original pump…. Just sent it to the recycle bin.
I wonder if they could not have cut a little access door int the back to make it so you did not have to disassemble all the rusty bolts to access the transmission cable mounts. Nah that would be too easy .
Great suggestion......gets my thumb's up. we'll have to send that to the design engineers and see what they say.
Thanks for posting this
@@jkgopostal Happy to have helped you. Have fun mowing the lawn!
Did you have to remove any freeon Gas on either the low pressure or high pressure Hose?
@@SuperElandariego I didn’t have to remove it because the line burst and leaked out on its own. I was having probs with the a/c system so I took it to a local garage…….it was low on refrigerant. The garage filled it up for me….::it worked for a few days then the line ruptured and leaked all the refrigerant out. If I were to replace the line and the a/c was still working then yes, I would have had to have the refrigerant purged from the system.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have 63 Comet and want to do the same. Im on the fence about doing a complete front disk conversion and knowing that I would need a different MC for that. Is there any reason why you did not do a front disc conversion instead because if you change your mind you would need to start all over again with a different MC? Thank you.
@@galaxyflyer1 although it is much more safe, I didn’t do the conversion because I wanted to keep the car as stock as possible. I convinced myself converting just the MC was far less intrusive to the car than changing most of the front suspension. That said, if I ever have the car to my kids/grand kids I would probably do the conversion like you.
Fantastic Video ! easy to understand steps and showing all the part numbers is an added bonus
@@chriskrull-tl7mc glad to have helped. Good luck on your project!!
Thank you so much for posting this. My niece has a 2014 with the same issue. I checked the sunroof drain system & didn't detect a leak. We took it to the shop & they said it was the sunroof. $$$ later & still leaking. Steady rain or down pours & the leak was back. Thanks to TH-cam we figured out it was the seal under the roof trim. I refuse to take it back to the shop that "fixed" the leak. We can definitely can do this ourselves. Thank for the reply about removing the strips.
@@gigif8566 glad to help. It took me awhile to figure it out. Hopefully this will fix your leak as it did mine. Cheers!
OMG THANK YOU
Glad to have helped you. Happy lawn mowing!
How high are you able to jack the motor without damaging any lines or hoses?
At least 3-4 inches. I was continually checking and stopped as soon as I had enough room. Good luck with your repairs!
13mm is the new 10mm I swear
You can change this hose without removing the bumper but it's very very tedious, just remove the bumper!!! lol
Love the shirt. I have a 65 convertible.
Sweet! '63 Convertible in my garage.
Mate…you saved me a whole lot of heartache on this one. Much appreciated.
Glad to have helped you. Happy lawn mowing!!!
I wonder if you could sweat the two pieces together like copper pipe?
I like ur suggestion but I don’t think it could work because there are different metals at play…..there is steel, white (pot) metal and I think stainless too. Heating them up may possibly affect the chrome plating too. Thanks for watching!
Well I did it on my 64 falcon, I made the change to dual bowl, I did replace all of the hoses and steel lines along with the wheel cylinders ,brake shoes and all of the adjusters and springs! Lines were breeze, just had to modify them slightly. Thanks for the video.
Glad to have helped. the dual bowl MC will give you more piece of mind.
Where did you buy that master cylinder ? Are the ones at napa better than the ones available at auto zone ?
Great video, Thanx !
Thanks for taken the time on showing me how to do it properly now my kids are also saying thank you Now we can go to places far from home on the summer :)
Glad to have helped and especially to help make the kids happy travelers!
What is this job valued at in 2024?
Perfect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The most useful video on TH-cam. Thank you for taking the time to show us how this is done. Both of my cables are siezed up in the sleeves, so I've gotta put new cables on. This video will come in handy as I tackle the project! Again, thank you so much for this!
Glad to be of assistance. This job is relatively easy so I’m sure you’ll be mowing the lawn in no time!!
Watches video, but see a couple of part numbers ,do you have a list you can send me.
NM, unfortunately I do not have a list of the part numbers readily available. You should be able to re-watch the video and pause it so you can write down the individual parts numbers. Its been a while since I made this video, but I believe i included the part number for every part I added or included in this project. good luck and let us know how it turned out for you!
After watching several times, have gotten all part numbers, as soon as my new lines come in the project will be done. My falcon is a 1964 , it was parked outside on grass, the moisture wasn't kind and rear lines suffered so replacing front to back and all 4 wheel cylinders. Thanks for the video , I will document the parts numbers for future reference.
Getting ready to do this on my 63 Ford Fairlane, just concerned about the length of rod matching depth of new MC and 😂 will be looking to make adjustment on it.
Robert, all I had t do was swap the new MC brake push rod and use the original (and shorter) in its place. have had zero problems since I put the dual bowl MC in my car. good luck!
Thanks for sharing! Background music an extra bonus!
Hopefully this helped you on your project. glad you liked the tunes!
Nicely done, Thank you
Thanks.....hopefully the video helped you.
Where can i find the hose? Or do you have a part number. Everywhere weve looked the hose has an extra piece connected to it
the video contains both the Ford part number (BV61-18K580-KF) and it also contains the part number for the Gates aftermarket hose which I bought and installed. the Gates # is 24859 and is available at O'Reilly's. Note, you have to determine if its the right hand or left hand hose that is leaking because they are very different and have different part numbers. to determine if its the right or left hose you must be looking at the car....right would be driver's side, left would be passenger side. the hose does have two or three integral plastic tube sections and plastic connectors that attache to different points on the vehicle......the Gates hose comes with everything. watch the video again and you should see what I mean. good luck and thanks for watching.
Good video
Thank you sir....hope it helps you.
Nice orientation guy
On the "final" connection point that goes into the firewall, is there a separate rubber o-ring that goes in it? Or just the connection itself
There is an o-ring already contained within the connector fitting that attaches to the firewall.....just push the connector onto the fitting and rotate the grey locking tab and you'll be good to go. If you purchase the same part I used, it will come complete with every fitting and connection bracket (which allows the heater hose to either clip onto an adjacent hose or wiring harness). Hope this helps you.
Thanks. You made a great video
Hey! How do i remove the rooftrim in a good way without demolishing the slot? 😅
I used a plastic trim removal tool......looks similar to a bent butter knife. working from the inside edge of the trim piece (side closer to the roof centerline) gently slide the tool along the trim edge until you feel the connector clip. move the plastic tool to the center of the connector and gently push the tool toward the opposite edge of the trim piece. gently pry the trim piece upward. do this for the other 4 - 5 connectors. Hope this helps!
@@10947792 I've also come in search of this info, maybe you could make a vid on it sometime for others who come searching!
Maybe late but you start at the rear you can push your finger underneath it if you're having trouble open the boot then lift up the trim it wil pop from it's mountings
its exactly the video that i been looking for! found it thanks
hopefully the vid was able to help you. Cheers.
I was considering a Zoeller unit like that but alot of amazon reviews say the switch isnt sealed good and allows water in and short out the switch .
I can't say I've had that experience. To the contrary I've had no issues or problems with the unit at all. It is a heavy duty professional grade unit. the unit was referred to me by a 30+ year plumber because I had questions when I was deciding what unit to purchase. I can tell you that I looked at the pumps sold in the big box stores and they do not compare in quality or robustness. Again, I can only comment on my experience with it thus far its been zero issues. good luck!
What if it still leaked what to look for
was there any pitting of the metal where the o ring seals? were all the pump bolts securely tightened? was there any debris on the o ring mating surface? did the o ring tear when it was stretched to install on the water pump? defective water pump?....I recently purchased two, brand new fuel pumps for another vehicle/project and both pumps were defective.
Super! This process works perfectly!
Glad to have been able to help you.
So we all got coolant leaks rn 💀
Sadly….
unfortunately......eventually! Parts just wear out.
Thanks. Just discovered my coolant leaking so this was super helpful.
its a pretty simple fix. i do suggest getting the hose disconnect tool though. good luck.
Thankful I was able to help you.
That was great thank you! By far the best of the videos on TH-cam for this replacement, and I watched them all!
I'm glad to have been able to help you!!
I'm doing the same mod on a 49 F1. I popped a rear brake hose and lost all brakes last month. Dual circuit master cylinders are cheap insurance.
Totally agree. The parts were inexpensive… more importantly the peace of mind with regard to safety is the most important benefit. …..plus the wife will ride in the car again!!
Fantastic video. Question though. I plan on converting the front drums on my 63 to disc as well. You mentioned that the master cylinder is from a 67 mustang non disc. Will it still work or do I just buy the 67 with front disc master cylinder? Thanks
Thanks for watching and I hope the video was able to help you. From my research on this project, the disc brake and non-disk brake MCs are different and are not interchangeable. I would suggest you stick with a MC that is designed for disk brakes if that is what you'll eventually be installing in your ride. good luck and keep us posted!
What year is your car ?
2012.....
I can’t begin to explain how thankful I am for you posting this video. It’s ridiculous how much a person has to go through to replace this cable, but at least we have your instructions!
Glad to help Tony. I too was surprised how much stuff had to come off the mower. Hopefully everything is working well now. cheers!
But does it come with the bolts?
thanks for viewing the video, but i don't understand your question. are you referring to the removal of the front bumper assembly, the a/c lines, etc?
Just one thought, take your I watch off when working on cars, its only a matter of time until you regret leaving it on! 😥
very perceptive.... i had to trash that watch shortly afterward because I broke the watch glass working on my truck!
