FAA Part 107 Test For Drones - WARNING! Summer 2021 and after
มุมมอง 35K3 ปีที่แล้ว
THE TEST HAS CHANGED. I prepped fully using existing videos and found that the test had a number of surprising questions. I was very confident for 45 questions, close to the passing line, but I was guessing on the other 15. This is a warning to anyone taking the Part 107 Knowledge Test for commercial drone work through the FAA after July 2021. I prepared extensively for the test and passed, but...

Gorgeous! Thank you!
Рай на земле!!!Спасибо вам за эту красоту!!!
I am confused as to a lot of people say the TH-cam videos, and the practice questions were on the actual test. The drone coach is one video I hear about a lot covering the test well.
I been studying for a month and I got pilot institute course I just passed today with a 78% the first 5 questions I had no idea what Answer it was I think I got 11 wrong.i got 11 codes.not happy with the 78% studying for a month but hey I passed.😊
how many hours total did you study?
@@jeremyfoster4232 a few a hours a day.i know I had a question about over the counter medicine what do it cause the 3 answers made sense I guessed on that one.i had another question if I'm flying my drone for a job around office buildings I know 1 of the 3 answer was interference I don't remember the other 2.i know I had no idea about the questions I got wrong.they word the questions a little differently.i got like 4 sectional charts questions.
Thanks for making this
Well done!
Just passed with 87% a few hours ago. Test was NOT what I was expecting. I've still got to look up the codes to see what I missed, but they have definitely changed the test around since the vast majority of videos here on TH-cam were made!
It's almost like they don't want you to succeed with all the tricky questions. I'm studying for my part 107 now and trying to find out the simplest of my questions on any FAA website was like reading word salad. There's this t-shirt "FAA - We're not happy unless you're unhappy" or something like that lol. Thanks for the video, I have 3 more months to study before I feel confident at this point. Weather so far has been my downfall on the practice tests.
Going for my test in 2 hours… gulp!
My hometown - LaMothe Street...
Maybe I'm just getting old, but I think the FAA is doing a poor job of communicating. I was a technical writer for 20 years, and I've waded through some awful writing, and I'd include the FAA's writing in the awful category. There's a lot of unnecessary complication and a lack of clarity.
FAA is famous for having stupid lazy freeloaders from other federal agencies
It's the freaking govt, what do you expect?
It’s not easy. Extremely difficult!!! They are out to trick you.
I think the FAA could do a lot better job on educating UA pilots. We get all this material that is scattered all over the place and so much of it is stuff we as UA pilots will NEVER use. I'd like to see practical knowledge supplied that is more geared towards UA pilots actually learning how to fly their drone safely versus just trying to pass the test.
Dude the faa website is SO CONFUSING they just threw a bunch of crap on these tests that aren’t even related to flying a drone and made it hard to find the info
Beautiful!
I took the test Friday and score a 78% and like most I was scoring high 90's on practice exams, the questions were written different but at the end the FAA wants all sUAS operators to have a basic understanding of our surrounding, was most important is that we take that and enhance it, you could score 100% it doesn't mean that you will be a better sUAS pilot compare to that one that score a 70%. thanks for shearing. Antonio
I agree with what is being said here, I took the test June 6 2022 and just passed with 75%. I studied the FAA material which is very disconnected , some here some there, refer to this, not organized at all. I am a good test taker with good reading skills , and was at least familiar with FAA madness from studying the helicopter manual and having flown with a pilot at the controls (not me) of course. There were questions on the test I had no clue about? Somebody up there needs to take a class on test material preparation . No Where is there a comprehensive guide on how this works. I have never been subjected to a professional standards test where the material was so dis jointed and incomplete. Im just glad to get through it and can't wait until I don't have to deal with them again.
If I take the test and don't pass do I have to pay again for a retest..
yes
Careful. Sharing actual questions from the FAA exam can get your cert revoked.
Beautiful footage! The concert was great
This is what really worries me about doing this test and getting licensed. They seem to hide so much information and change rules whenever. The fines you can get hit with are scary and it might only be a minor infraction. Basically jumping through hoops just to fly what is basically a toy with a camera on it. I love drone photo/video but feels all the fun has been sucked out of it with the fear of heavy fines. Sold my first drone because of this. Not sure if its really worth the risk?

Pretty footage and cool music :)
Music courtesy of Audiio.com, great resource for instrumentals for drone videos! Note the two i's in the site name.
Awesome video with pretty footages my friend :)
Enjoyedt,hat's unusual ! 😊
This year I took the test and I did not have pass. There was questions they asked they I didn't know and I only missed bt one. anyways I used a 2018 study guide book to take a 2022 remote pilot exam.
Took it yesterday and passed. The majority was general rules and sectionals, then the rest touched on metars/tafs, flying over people, night operations, and only a couple weather questions. You guys can do this!
Passed with a 98% today... I didn't see any 'trick' questions on the exam at all.. but then i did take the pilot institute's version of the training... but they do want to truly test your understanding... like asking how high can you fly at an obstacle x miles from something, and then giving the answer if you take the MSL and add 400, the AGL and add 400, and then just 400 feet... which shows do you understand what are you really looking at on the chart. FAA does not release it's question bank to anyone.. just the short sample bank. And keep in mind that the test itself changes regularly (they add and remove quesitons) but more over the ACS as you point out changed last year adding the night and category drone stuff and remote ID. But yeah, know WHY the answer is right completely is the real thing in any practice you may do. Because at least for me, there was no rote memorization... no "how far below clouds must you fly" but more "given this obstruction at that location how high must the clouds be to photograph the top of the obstruction"... which requires reading the sectional, knowing the cloud minimums, AND know the airspace.
I should've saw your video before I failed two times, I thought that I was ready for my license and then 👎I was thinking that I was taking the wrong test🤣. 66% and 60%. TH-cam videos talks how your brain can very easily make millions of dollars but they don't tell you how much you have to sweat🤣🤣🤣
Well, congrats on passing the test. You nailed it - I'm right at the point you described. Thanks for this video and your feedback. In all the stuff I've seen so far, I haven't read anyone who has referenced "new rules" (except Bill Maher, of course ;)). Thanks for your "heads-up."
highly recommend watching pilot institute's night flying and flying over people videos (they have basically the same video that is in the paid class online)... it has what you need to know, at least from my exam's perspective.
I can confirm what this guy is saying. I took the test yesterday and passed with an 85%. Although the popular TH-cam videos and practice tests are a very good basis to start, they are outdated. Probably 5% of the practice tests’ questions appeared on the actual test word for word. Make sure you have a good understanding of the material before taking the test. Don’t try and memorize everything. Take your time to READ CAREFULLY the questions before answering. There is quite a lot of trick questions, which I think is BS. The goal should strictly be to test people on their knowledge, and not trick them.
I'm taking a course right-now and would really suggest that route . It will cost you but for me it works
There is a separate part outside of part 107 that talks about UAS registration
Part 48 for sUAS
48.125 Foreign Civil Aircraft Except for corporations eligible to register under § 48.20(c), the FAA will issue a recognition of ownership to persons required to comply with the provisions of this part pursuant to an authorization to operate issued under part 375 of this title. The recognition of ownership does not have the effect of U.S. aircraft registration.
It's very generous of you to share your experience, thank you. Best.
Never take a test if they don't give u a book to study that's why I havmt taken it yet youtube don't onow what people think it does
Whoa man....
I'm gonna pass this test 1 time if I don't make my money back in 1 day with drone work ill drop them.
Just took it and passed with an 88%. Not happy with the score. I was hoping for a low 90's at least. I went through the online UAV coach and was passing the practice tests in the mid 90's. It wasn't hard for the most part. I, unfortunately, knew that there were at least 5-6 questions that I wasn't sure of. Not sure which ones I missed but one question I am really not sure of was.. If someone has a drone registered in another country they can register to fly in the US if a. they cannot register in the us if registered in another country b. if the drone is used for recreational purposes c. If the drone is used for the purposes or employment. From what I remembered studying, the new rules state that a drone registered in another country can be registered in the US as well. I think the old rules required you to unregister the from the county of origin and then register in the US. My take on the test? If you study for it you will pass with no problem. I never was worried about passing at any time in the test. I just was worried about getting a really high score. I knew I was going to be exactly where I ended up though 88% when I wasn't sure on multiple questions. They throw some curve balls in there to be sure. Don't worry about them though. If you study you will pass.
I passed but also feel the same. I completed Drone Pilot Ground School as well as quite a few free TH-cam videos. There are definitely a few questions that I did not come across in any of my studies. Glad it’s over.
Brother I just passed my part 107 last Saturday with a 73% I paid for an online training and past all of my lesson guide quizzes and was scoring over 90% on my practice exams, including the one PSI provided. I have to say that I didn’t recognize hardly any of the test questions, plus my test was heavy on sectional charts right at the beginning. I thought about recording a video myself just to share my experience because this can really trip up an examiner who is trying to pass their part 107 and feels totally confident based on what they studied yet are presented with something almost entirely different. Great video and at the end of the day at least we can say we passed!
I will echo that it felt almost 2/3rds of my exam was sectional referenced (even if a number did not require looking at the sectional to answer).
I have been watching the same videos, and I am not surprised that the FAA has changed the test. If the answers are discussed all over TH-cam and the internet, then people can just study for the questions and not learn any real knowledge(even if it doesn't really apply for most drone pilots). Fortunately I am not to the point where I will take the test, so I know to dig deeper into the new regulations.
The FAA has to be completely reworked because for DRONES, and most peoples plans for what they want to do with it isnt covered in these tests because the FAA has its head up its arse. You dont need to know A LOT of that information unless you are planning to do specific jobs. A lot of people do not plan to ever do those jobs, and never will. They are forcing (the easiest way to describe it) COLLEGE tests and courses onto someone who wants to just pass a highschool test and be able to fly and take a picture and sell it. Can a plane fly 30 feet above you house? No, but a drone can, and what does a map of a radar station in Tulsa OK have anything to do with taking a picture 20 feet above a house in New Jersey?? Nothing. Myself, and many many others want to be legal, we want to take a picture and sell it legally. Not have to know the flight frequency of the tower in Colorado. This test is BS and the FAA should be ashamed of itself for forcing this onto us when they dont actually test you on things that you need to know every single time you fly, like personal property space and private property space and what you can and cant do.
You are getting a license that says you are a PILOT, albeit remote. You should be proud to hold your license and feel knowledgeable on aviation and the rules that govern it. Not every joe should have a drone up in the sky - even if it is only 30ft. This is not a hard test, at all. If you want it, simply study for a couple weeks and it's yours. Or you can complain like a baby while others in life surpass you. Either way, nobody really cares how you feel.
@@tomkolo100 nobody??? Really, you need to read. PLENTY of people feel the same, and have commented and left similar messages. If you want to drive a car you DONT need a CDL
@@latenighter1965 Once again, nobody cares. Your comment means nothing and will never mean anything. Now stop complaining and just do it. Something simple enough to study for two weeks and gain a license that says PILOT is ridiculous to begin with. They should make you all have to pass a practical as well.
Amazing information! Thank you for sharing your experience. I will definitely study all the things you mentioned. Do you think 2 hours everyday for 1 month to study all these stuff is good enough?
Plenty. You will be more than equipped to pass. They will still cut you off at the knees with 5 or 6 questions that are worded to make you miss them. Seems that with the updated test if you get in the high 80's you're doing very well. Curious if you took and passed?
@@jjmcwill1881 No, I haven't because of crazy amount of work load :( I watch it from time to time though everytime I get a chance.
100% can confirm. I used Northrop video. Took the test and failed by 5 questions. Came out pissed because half the questions I hadn’t heard before. I now grabbed a membership with me of the drone sites that has phone support. Half my questions were on the maps. Trying again in 2 weeks.
Thank you for the public service. I expected a 95 and "earned" an 85. I consider that 10 point spread to be the "FAA Attitude Adjustment" instead of a representation of my study and test taking skills.
Do you think a study guide video made a year ago would work?
Shut the fck up you and your BS 'drone'. It's a Quadcopter, not drone, ignorant, 'no spikka da inglisha' illiterates. Go back to school and learn the proper definitions of 'drone'. Stop following other illiterate sheep. Drone is not a name, never has been because it has present and past participles and definitions. How can you not know that? Better still, get off TH-cam, you're insulting intelligent, highly educated people. Why don't you call your dog a 'drone'?
You find these answers in any PPL handbook published by the FAA….the FAA handbook of Airmen’s Knowledge any republished ASA Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge etc…the FAA just doesn’t want you to pass the test they want you to know and understand the info….
I too watched the same videos you mentioned thinking I had a great handle on the test. I studied and watched the online videos a few times and failed the with 67%. I took the test 12/10/22 and only about 30% of what I learned online was even covered in the real test. When I saw the first 2 questions I knew right then I was in trouble most of what was on the real test was not even close to being covered from the online videos. Also, some in the video mention they were given the Pilot's Handbook while they test. They did not offer that to me. Only scrap paper, a ruler and some funny looking tool...may have been a pilot's compass. So I found the Pilot's Handbook online, 500+ pages, and currently reading it and this I would highly recommend because the test is going to cover EVERYTHING in that handbook. Even the part of how planes take flight and all the signs and lights at airports. I do think the tests are much harder than when those online videos were first shot but it may just be me. So right now I truly feel that now that I have covered so much of that book and Google other aspects to get a better understanding of what I need to know, I feel that I have a better chance at passing than I did just watching online videos.
They should have provided a book for you to use during your test. That's actually required of them by the FAA. Literally nobody is expected to memorize sectional charts completely
they dont give a PHAK, but yes they had a (very nice) manual flight computer even though not needed for sUAS ... but you need the supplemental book... it has all the charts in it... its only like 80 pages.
I ordered that huge textbook too. I have the supplement and was told they will give that to you at the test, you didn't have that? That's really strange. I mean, when a question refers you to like figure 1.1 how would you know where to find that?
Thanks! I test tomorrow.
I agree with everything say. Took the test 12/26/21 got an 85 but i felt sure going in that I would do better than that. But as you said, the questions were worded or asked different than I was used to seeing on the free exams on You Tube. I think that the thing that saved me was that I had taken the paid course from Pilot Institute. Again I agree with you anyone going to take the test now should think about spending a little money and get the latest information. The course I took was the new as of April 2021.
