I have created this channel because I want to share my adventures with family, friends, and anyone else who enjoys adventures and having some fun!
I hope you enjoy the videos and that by watching, you get motivated to get outside and enjoy nature. Whether it is a Hike, Backpack trip, Thru-Hike, Mountain Bike Ride, Bike Packing trip, or just a walk around the block, get out and enjoy life! There is nothing better for stress than some time outside. That's what got me started. WARNING - Spending time outdoors can be addictive.
Let's go live the dream, enjoy life and the people around us, and create some positive lifetime memories!
When I am hiking the PCT Pacific Crest Trail in 2024 I will be doing a fundraiser for Crohn’s Disease. If you can donate to help find a cure and better treatment to help others that would be great! Use the link below and have a great day!
Please do not forget to like and subscribe?

Pacific Crest Trail - PCT Willamette Pass mile 1908 to McKenzie Pass mile 1985 where I END MY HIKE.
Wow, hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in 2024 has been an epic journey and adventure of a lifetime something I will never forget!
Doing a long hike like this will restore your faith and people and make you realize how good people really are!
Spending time out in the wilderness with time to think will make you realize what really is important in life. That is family and friends and being kind and positive to the people you meet. Life is about experiences and not things. That’s where I find true happiness.
I hiked over 1453 miles and was on trail for 124 days in 2024 on the PCT
In 2023 I hiked 1100 miles.
I want to thank my wife Monica for all of her support when I was on the trail I couldn’t have done this without the support of my family.
In 2024 I was hoping to do a complete continuous footpath from Mexico to Canada. But as time went on, I realized it was more about enjoying the journey than the destination.
I really came to this realization when I got to Quincy California at mile marker 1269. This is when the forest fires started and I had trail closures to deal with in front of me. Not only that but I was getting ready to enter the Lassen Forest which I had hiked in 2023 and it was burned so bad in some areas that weeds would not grow. This burned area was over 110 miles long of black burned forest and would take me a week to hike through. The current temp in Quincy was over 103° and I knew I was not going to have much tree cover and was not looking forward to going through the burn area again since I just hiked it the previous year. I also knew that once I got through that burned area there was an active forest fire where the PCT was closed. So I was going to have to get off regardless if I wanted to or not. It was at that point in time I jumped up to the Oregon border and started hiking north of the fire closure. This is when my Thru Hike became a section Hike.
I enjoyed hiking up in Oregon and made it all the way to Crater Lake where I encountered my next fire closure.
So I got off the trail at Crater Lake and flew into Seattle to visit with my wife and family there I took 16 days off.
I then flew back into Bend, Oregon and started hiking northbound at mile 1909 Willamette Pass. That is where this video starts. When I was on Trail, I had a leg injury that I was not recovering from. I was in a lot of pain and that is when I decided to end my journey on the Pacific Crest Trail for 2024 at McKenzie Pass mile marker 1985. The injury ended up being a hamstring which I’ve been rehabbing for four weeks now and I’m just starting to get better. It was the right decision getting off Trail even though emotionally I wanted to continue hiking to at least Timberline Lodge. Well, that’s where the story ends for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed the videos and this encourages you to get outside and enjoy your life.

It’s been really watching you winning this year. I’m hoping I can get back out there next summer and get in a LASH. God bless!
I hope you get in a great hike. Enjoy and take it easy!
Great job on making the videos of the PCT. I have really enjoyed watching all of them. Man how I wish I could have been there but I'm so glad you were able to do it. Do it while you can. Oh, bring Monica over when she gets back for Pizza or something.
Bill I am glad you enjoyed the videos your one of the reasons I posted them.
Thanks Bill putting in for another permit for 2025 today so I can finish this thing up after I get my knee surgery woo hoo.
Enjoyed your videos. Thanks for putting it out there. Very inspirational and best of luck.
Thanks Rusty
Thanks for taking us along for the journey, This is was very inspiring for an "old" dude like me
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it and just remember the hardest part is the first step and then from there on it’s just one step at a time.
Hey Mike, yet another stellar video as I expected. I just trekked this section Aug 12-15, 2024, about 6 wks behind you. In my humble opinion, this was the best of my 400+ miles on the PCT this year. Desolation Wilderness is stunning! I goofed and failed to grab my free Mickey's malt liquor, and instead hiked past Hwy 40 for the added 3.3 mi pull to I-80 at 1157.8. Happy Trails! -Scott
Nice desolation wilderness is beautiful. Now the Mickey’s malt liquor I might pass on next time or buy something that I prefer. 🤣 that’s a big beer for a long distance hiker. Who’s now a lightweight.
So cool
Thanks Johnny. I hope you and Wendy are doing well. Tell her I said hi.
Nice to see Monica in your PCT hike. Woo hoo keep ur going Mike!
Thanks Bill we had fun in Washington
Nice
It was fun Monica and I enjoyed it!
Those look like some mighty big skeeters. To bad about the fires and not hiking that portion. Keep ur going Mike and keep turning out those great videos of the Pretty Crazy Trail.
Will do!
Welcome to Oregon. Enjoy the hike and be safe out there!
Will do thanks!
Thank you!
I am glad you enjoyed it
Got it 😂
It’s a fine malt liquor
Got it
Looks awesome!! ⛰️🍷
It was!
Wow, now you are doing commercials. It is good to see you off the trail and with Monica. Keep ur going Mike!
Ha Ha Yes I am! 🤣 it was was too cool not to share this hiking themed wine tasting room !!!!
Woohoo! Keep ur going Mike! Great video's.
Will do
Awesome
It’s been quite an adventure
Looking good Mike! The hiking club did part of this section a long time ago. Thanks again for making these video's. So glad you didn't get hurt falling in the water and breaking your treking pole. I bet that was pretty scary. I would have had to build a fire and get warm first. Keep ur going! You are amazing!
You are responsible for my hiking obsession because of all the hikes we did. 👍
Never gets old ( except my memory ) JMTx13 and then some . . . remind me--you took the free shuttle out at Reds, but you had to pay at the resort to get it into town, right?
I think my memory is getting old. I can’t remember. I thought we paid both ways but I’m not sure.
Just wondering if your feet ever dry out during the day with all of those river crossings? Safe travels to you and your hiking buddies.
they're called "Teva" . . . yeah, yeah, you say, they weigh so much, but unless you wanna wake up with frozen shoes, Teva at the end of the day . . .
On the days with only two river crossings yeah they’ll dry out but on the days where you have five or more no
Wow, the videos just keep getting better with all that beautiful country. Looks like Bear creek was a hard river crossing. Looking good Mike. Keep ur going! No way would I jump in that lake.
It’s been good but hard to I call you when I get a chance.
Bridge damage is daunting! Amazing!
Yes it was!
Is that cheating sliding down the snow? I'm jealous seeing all that snow. It is hot here. 110 and not July yet. Keep the great videos going. Love the scenery.
Thanks bill I am in Tahoe by a nice lake right now. I know that I am lucky.
Incredibly beautiful, but incredibly challenging! Continued safe travels.
Thank you! Will do!
What is the song that plays in the background of your video at around 16:35? Thanks for another beautiful journey on the PCT!
Anten before dawn on epidemic Sound
Really enjoying your PCT journey! Safe travels!
Thanks so much!
Nothing like sunrise in the desert!
Yes, the sunrises have been incredible
Just beautiful Mike. Keep ur going. Woohooo!
Thanks, Bill should be reaching Lake Tahoe here in a couple days
Thanks for sharing your adventures! I hope to get to the Sierras some day soon. Watching from north Utah.
Thanks I’ll try to post the rest of the Sierra trip later this week
🤣 had me going for a second there!
Bill, my friend in that video is a clown. We had one of the other guys in the cave going as well.
That not how to use an ice axe going up, and that not how to glissade down.
The ice was to hard to self belay. Hey, what do you expect from a desert rat?🤣
@@MikeRiggsAdventures To stay safe top priority! 🥰
Wow 😮
Great adventure
Beautiful
Thank you
Awesome
Yes it’s pretty cool I need to do a video for Mather and Glenn pass which pushed me out of my comfort level.
Hope you're out killing it on the PCT again this year, best of luck! What an awesome journey.
Thanks it’s an Adventure you will have to watch the next couple of videos of us going through the Sierra in the snow. It get more intense as we go.
Awesome
Hey Johnny, you’ll have to check out the next video of us going into the Sierra in the snow. It is crazy. But the video I’ll put together after episode 10 will be even crazier because it just got more intense since we went. I was pushed way out of my comfort level. 🤣
Whoo hoo keep er going! Looking good! No rocks in my pack. 😀
Ya with that heavy pack I thought about you putting rocks in my pack!
Beautiful video. Thanks for sharing. 👍5
Glad you enjoyed it! Have a great day 👍
Woo Hoo Keep ur going Mike!
Thanks Bill
Thanks Mike, enjoyed your Section 7 of your hike especially all the critters! Take care my friend!!
I’m glad you enjoyed the critters and just to let you know I didn’t eat any of them 🤣
It's been great following your trek! Be safe; keep at it!
Thanks
Hi Smooth, Great video! I wasn’t aware of your fundraiser. My mother-in-law is in advanced stages of Crohn’s disease. As part of her critical care team, I had to get off trail when I did to care for her. Heartbreaking 💔 I sure enjoyed the times hiking with you and Gadget. I’ll be following your adventure in 2024! Hattie
Hattie, it was great hiking with you and I’m sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I really appreciate your donation to the Crohn’s foundation. With some luck, maybe I’ll see you on the trail sometime in the future. Take care.
Amazing video !
Thanks! I glad you liked it
Nora virus is full blown on trail B careful.
Will do!
Another really great video Mike! Can't wait to see the next one. Keep ur going! PCT trail
Thanks Bill 👍
Thank you ! Beautiful video. I’ve been trying to see more videos about this section and this was helpful. Happy trails!
I am glad it was helpful.
Did you bypass Fuller Ridge?
Yes we did the Black Mountain alternate.
What was low point of your experience?
In 2023 when I fell and hurt my rib and had to go home. I thought my hike was over I was devastated, but I was able to come back a month later and hike from Donner Summit trailhead to Dunsmuir
Lots of cool stuff and only 11 min 👍. Picking up the trail this morning at 182 where I left off last year. My fist weekend section hike of the year.
Enjoy it’s nice in the desert now
Amazing journey Sir. Something all of us wish we could do. Keep doing what you’re doing!❤
Thanks it’s been a great journey so far!
