Macro, Wildlife and Street Photographer
About Me:
I'm a photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty of the natural world and the hidden details of everyday life.
I've found my heart in wildlife and nature photography. There's something magical about being in the wild, observing animals in their natural habitats, and freezing those precious moments in time through my lens. Whether it's the graceful flight of a bird, the curious gaze of a wild animal, or the breathtaking landscapes that Mother Nature paints, I'm here to share those moments with you.
I'm also drawn to the raw and unfiltered moments of human life that unfold on the streets. Street photography allows me to capture the essence of our urban environments, the stories of people going about their daily lives, and the unexpected beauty that can be found in the ordinary.

What park is this?
Did you use a lens filter?
I did yes - I use a variable ND filter / Polarizer on this lens
@@PacWestPhoto Which one did you go with I'm about to order this lens tonight and there's so many I have no idea what's a good brand to go with or how many stops
I have the NEEWER 2 in 1 67mm Variable ND Filter ND2 - what I do to set it each time is point the camera at something with a reflection and adjust the sliders until I am happy with the look.
@@PacWestPhotoI have a neewer flash ND tripod so I'm familiar with their brand. I was thinking the k&f concepts variable ND filter but yours is the ND filter and polarizing filter correct?
correct the one that I have is both in one - I dont think youd be disappointed, once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature to adjust on the fly anyways.
This is the first time watching your video and I have not watched the entire episode as I make this comment, I photograph many of the same birds at times from my 14 ft touring kayak, other times along local streams, lakes and other bodies of water in and around wildlife refuges. I live in The Hudson river valley of NEW YORK STATE and travel as far south as the eastern shores of Virginia to photograph wildlife. My comment as I said is based on being a first time viewer, I watched as you unpacked your camera equipment and made your way to the area where you started photographing and videotaping and the thing that first stuck me was the lack of an introduction to your video, no idea of who you are or where you were, just to let you know that I am a retired NYS Corrections officer, I retired after 41 years and every incident I had to document STARTED with, who, what, where when and how or why if you knew, when I got involved in event photography after many years of digital photography, I used the same approach to document and tell the story of the event, making a video makes it easier to include a verbal introduction and it brings your audience along with you on your photograph journey. Watching you in bird heaven makes me a little jealous, herons and egrets are pretty much standard types of birds along with ducks but eagles are not easy to find and it is only certain times of the year that I find them. When the eagle came in the scene I noticed the white head and tail feathers were slightly washed out, I had problem photographing herons and eagles in bright light and I found a article in Outdoor Photographer that spoke of using negative exposure compensation to retain the details of the feathers of white birds, so any time I shoot birds in daylight I adjust my exposure to get a slightly faster shutter speed and that helps me retain the details of the feathers. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you for the feedback I’ll keep that in mind! Good luck out there. I’ll definitely look into that last part
what animal came out of the bushes @4:40? Looks like maybe a bobcat?
It was a raccoon! I couldn’t get a good shot of it though but he stayed around most of the day poking his head out here and there
Nice! I have the same setup and loving it, although I wouldn't mind an A1 just for more cropping. It's interesting to see the heron up in the trees, here in SoCal I only see them by the rivers and wetlands. Good job brother!
Thanks man! Yeah definitely having fun with this setup. Being in the Pacific Northwest makes it way more interesting. I came up here from SoCal 3 years ago
Very nice
Thanks - finally some decent weather in the Pacific Northwest
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
4:47 Hey dude, did you use optical zooming to focus the subject while taking the picture? or what was that?
Hey, yes thats exacctly what I did. it really helps when at 600mm. have you tried it before? its easy to setup in camera
@@PacWestPhoto i was unaware of that feature until i saw your video. im new to sony camera, i just jumped from a 15yo nikon dslr. focus magnifier feature is really really good! thanks mate!
i love this lens...200-600mm
definitely worth the money! internal zoom is such a nice touch too
very nice video and photos dude!
Thanks a lot!
This is a nice alternative to the street photography videos a lot of people do.
thanks, im still trying to figure it out but it adds a fun element to getting out and taking photos
nice brother❤
thanks brother ☝️
hi, what is your shutter speed at 600mm ?
I usually start with 1200 on the low end. thats usually the sweet spot for this lens. if my subject is really still i may try at 500
You’re answering shutter speed questions in millimeters? Okay.
@@JCCamp you win some, you lose some haha but yes 1200+ at 7.1 usually produce the best results for me at 600mm and adjust iso accordingly
Super broooo ❤❤❤ Im really interest with pgotography
thanks brother!
Are you using this in Auto mode? Because your settings do not make any sense. Also, the editing is very bad dude
Have you actually watched the video? He is clearly changing the settings manually.
You trippin...its awesome. lens is not 2.8 constant
Your channel is so underrated. Keep it up!
thanks, im trying! ha just need this weather to cooperate, brrrrr
great video and commentary
Thanks a mill - Appreciate it!
I REALLY enjoyed that!! The greenery is BEAUTIFUL!!
Thanks! All the comments are definitely motivating to keep going. Appreciate the comment
@@PacWestPhoto Please do keep going! I'm an amateur wildlife photographer, and I learn so much from videos like yours!!
wenig Bewegung in den Bilder
let me try.. ist das gut oder schlecht? Haha
Hi, I am wondering how this compares to the Tamron 150-500mm as far as stabilization? Also, Does your body have bird eye focus setting? I have the a7siii, but I am wondering if the 17siii or a6700 (with birds eye) would be better... Any opinions, appreciate it!
Hey good questions! I have used both lenses and can say that I di enjoy the internal zoom factor of the Sony - stays balanced, less moving parts and pieces and the waterproofing aspect made the purchase worth it for me.
as for the body, I have the a7iv - and I have zero complaints! such a well rounded camera! bird eye tracking, animal tracking and the video af capabilities are also fantastic. being able to switch between super aps-c and full frame is fun if youre into that - the a6700 does come with focus bracketing features that are only found in the a7RV so if you might be wanting that feature you might want to have a look
Thanks soooo much. Looking for one to travel with, so maybe Tamron is a better size - maybe even the tamron 400mm. Hopefully the upcoming a7siii update comes with an update for Bird's eye autofocus. @@PacWestPhoto
I'm a fan of Tamron and have a few of their lenses - Sigma Also has the new 500mm... That's also very compact
Yes, am considering the 50-400mm and the 150-500mm Tamron. I was keen on the former, but someone reviewed saying they 150-500mm is much better with autofocus... Hard to tell without actually trying.@@PacWestPhoto
hell friend ,cropping photos ,pixel and megabits reduce too? can you tell me
are you asking about quality issues after cropping?
yes @@PacWestPhoto
I have the A7iii alongside the Tamron 28-200, great combo! Love the photos!
Hey thanks! Super happy with this lens. Planning to upgrade your body? I’m eyeing the A7RV 👀
@@PacWestPhoto Yeah, the lens is s beast! I will buy a fast nifty fifty probably in the future... I just upgraded from the A7ii so no new body in the near future... I'm shooting on adapted old vintage lense as well, it's a blast, also shooting film... Take care, good luck!
Are you using Animal / Bird eye tracking for autofocus? It works really good on the Sony.
I am now, this was my first time using this lens in the video. The small birds are the hardest for me - the tracking definitely helped
I am currently using back button focus. I have the AF-ON button set to Eye tracking and the C1 button set to single point. @@PacWestPhoto
I didn’t think of the C1 - that’s clever, yeah - I use back button as well. I’ll have to try it out
Oh my setup for birding😀
Goodluck
Thanks
Ditch the tripod and get a strap. I recommend the Black Rapid Curve Breathe Classic Strap. If you do keep using tripod try turning off IBIS. When the camera is fixed and not moving the IBIS can actual cause motion blur.
Great advice! Thanks. Anything else? Like I said I’m new to this lens
In my opinion this lens works best at any speed above 1/1250 and I like using f7.1@@PacWestPhoto
I’ll try that out - I’ll also look into the strap. The tripod is a bear to lug around anyways. Good call on that

What stabilization mode were you using?
Mode 1 - I'm pretty new to this lens. at 600mm requires a lot of attention, even with the tripod I've noticed
@@PacWestPhoto what about on the body, only ibis?
correct - mode 1 with ibis - Sony A7iv
overall, very happy with the setup - just need more time behind it tbh
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Awesome Vlog! I’m excited to see pictures!
Thanks! This one was fun

same.. I need to go back and get a few more angles
why do all of the youtubers do vertical frames only? lol

Thanks! Too bad the storm damaged all the trees. It’s really nice around here in Spring as you could imagine
Amazing video brother!!
Appreciate it!
