I highly doubt I have the skill to pull off a shade skip I’m ngl. This was really helpful though I didn’t even know the shade could use spells.

shade skips are mainly speedrun/challenge run tech, though i thought they were a fun trivia nugget. more useful would be noting that they specifically placed non-shade things (like spikes, background objects, or enemies) to allow for the ability to pogo for a sequence break if you wanted to. also, most shade skips aren't that bizarre either, like the shade skip to a charm vendor without dash by just pogoing a shade with no other complexities, which is most commonly used to get shaman stone early (top tier charm for spell builds, boosts damage of all spells by ~33-50% (depends on the spell) as well as the boosting fireball spells' size -> double hit chance as it's more likely to still be colliding with an enemy after the i-frames wear off, particularly on enemies that are large, take knockback, or are moving away from you). as another point of trivia, if you're *really* trying shade skips can be used to softlock a file by getting specific places without claw, as there's a really bizarre shade skip (involving damage tanking the shade for knock back in the air (side note: i've heard you take more knockback at lower fps values for some reason), "parrying" the shade's melee attack for extra pogos without depleting the shades health, and iirc using vengeful spirit for stalling in the air to allow the shade time to float up) that allows you to get to ancient basin by a different route where sitting on the bench you ended the video at will just trap you down there for good. that being said, those shade skips are so far out of the way that they might as well not exist for the casual/new player, and i don't think your file can do a softlock any more anyways now that it has claw.

spoiler!!!! you also need crystal dash to go to the left (or you could pogo) which you can get by going to crystal peak (which you can now access using ddive) if you want to get below the ancient basin, you need to get the king's brind (which you can get after beating hornet at kingdom's edge

@@wazzupbeijingg [assuming you were spoiler warning your own message and pushing the spoiler content into the read more button, which i will do to this reply] fyi the pogo method you mentioned doesn't actually work on its own, due to an overhanging ledge. this is why a shade skip is needed to bypass crystal heart, as you obviously can't use monarch wings for it due to topology reasons. the position of the shade spawning makes this difficult due to being on the ledge, so you can't get its attention easily and need to damage it with vengeful spirit/etc to get its attention. in order for that to work, you need the shade to have enough hp to survive the vs, which requires either a nail upgrade or several extra masks. as for the other bit, yeah the bottom part requires king's brand -> hornet 2 ... which require wings or a tricky aspid pogo.

iirc they can't do that quite yet as i don't think they have picked up the prerequisite shopkeeper's key as a byproduct of not having been in the area it is in. that said shopkeeper's key -> elegant key -> shade soul is valuable when they get there. (worth noting: when going up the elevator in sanctum to where the elegant key gets used there's a breakable wall to the left for a shortcut back to the bench)

@@inserthandsomefacehere9401 HK is a Souls-like not because of it's gameplay (though It does have a few elements of it *point at boss emphasis and party*) It's called that because of how the game tells it's story and how a lot of details are kinda hidden.

@@gerwaltspodnovigradu5508 I'm a dark souls "veteran too" lol... 35 years old... It's an early boss... And I died many times... I ain't afraid to admit it lol she was a pain in the ass.... You kinda need to memorize the movesets and sounds made then build a kind of muscle memory in reactions or you're fkd in this game... I can't see people breezing through it like it's nothing.

"souls mods don't need to be difficult" core contradiction to the entire games philosophy so its not a surprise its underwhelming then

@@GoodGuyDevin tbf this mod was difficult in certain areas. This one not so much but level design wise It was really good. It was just the bosses in this area weren’t challenging enough.
