    I think your math is off. 8000 x $1.35 = $10,800. I'm not sure how you came up with $5000 Like the video

    If you’re discouraged by this video don’t be. He’s spending $4-6,000 / month just on a truck rental and hotels. The truck rental program he’s talking about is through Enterprise but it’s meant for hotshots. They can gross a lot more than RV transport and they deadhead way less. Also staying in hotels regularly isn’t an option. You have to buy a truck and sleep in the back. Additionally with fuel prices as they are, you need a generator to run heat and AC while you sleep because idling the truck uses a lot more fuel than you’d expect.

    So I'm curious as I haven't seen anyone say this and I'm wanting to get into RV transport with my F350 Dually. Question is this, you take an RV to drop off for Company A, but Company A doesn't have a back load, but an other RV company does, can you work for multiple RV companies or do they have Non compete Claus when you get hired?

    FYI, you can get a pilot card (or Loves card), fuel there and earn an occasional free shower. Even if you have to pay most days, it would be way cheaper than a hotel room every night... You might be able to get your company to allow you to do lease tripping so you can get back hauls. Failing that, try to get your own authority and run their freight outbound and YOUR freight back in? 🤷🏻‍♂️ If none of that will work, move on. 😂

    It looks like you haven't made a video in over a year. I'm going to guess that leasing the truck was not a good idea. I've been driving semi for over 10 years. leasing is never the good option . You're much better getting your own authority, or leasing the truck onto landstar. Hope you're doing well, update us if you're alive & well.

  • @carolinagoldbug983
    @carolinagoldbug983 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I guess what gets me with leasing…..at least with single-haul…..is the fact that you’re paying ‘rent’ on your truck when you deadhead back to Indiana. Let’s say it’s a 1000-mile deadhead. I’ll use round numbers. I’ll pay $200 in fuel getting back to the barn empty. YOU’LL pay $200 in fuel….as well as $230 for that .23-cents per mile (I think that’s the latest rate…..check me on that). So during deadhead time, I’m paying $200……you’re paying $430. That adds up since basically half of our miles are deadhead. But your other points are spot-on. Especially maintenance. You put in your 50000 miles (I thought it was 60000)….you get a new truck. AND you don’t pay for maintenance…..or for break-downs or what-not. THAT adds up.

  • @carolinagoldbug983
    @carolinagoldbug983 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose I’d add that if you’re not willing to sleep in the truck say…….3 days out of 4 (or thereabouts), then don’t do single-haul. Or traditional hotshot. And unless you’re mostly driving ‘loaded’ (i.e. most of your miles involve ‘cargo’ and getting paid), then renting a vehicle is a bad idea. You’re getting charged for EVERY mile…..not just loaded miles. This video really hammers that home.

  • @carolinagoldbug983
    @carolinagoldbug983 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dude. The hotels are KILLING you. As-is the rental. You brought up a good point which would apply to single-haul. You’re paying that damned .22-cents/mile when you’re driving back to Indiana empty as well--not just when you’re hauling. So it sounds like you made about $5000 for 8000-miles……but you’re paying rent for all 8000 miles. THAT’S gotta hurt!

    i must be missing something . i have seen countless vids on rv transport and hot shot . the calculator says the same thing no matter what angle i look at . or what they say on youtube . the cost of trucks , insurance , documentation , taxes , etc. vs pay per mile do not add up to enough to make make it worth while . unless living in your truck at minimum wage is appealing to you . aka rolling sweat shops .

    Points Systems, OK, if your staying in motels, don't many of them have points you earn? You will start getting discounted or free rooms after a enough points are accumulated. Same with Fuel Cards of the different brands. You will start getting fuel discounts after a while. I also hear if you use Truck stops, you will earn free meals, showers and discounted Fuel as well. If you use a Credit cards for expenses, there are points systems on some of those as well. You can make back some of your money from thes points plans.

    Don't take this the wrong way cause I was hired by them and decided to just run pilot car instead. I make $1.35 a mile at that and they pay perks and over night's. I can't understand how you're able to make money at the rate they are paying.

    he never mentions the $$$ its costs to lease. 10,000 miles a month $2,200 vs $1000 finance. That is $28,000 a year vs $12,000 finance. You literally make your depreciation back the first year. Plus new truck you get 3-4 year warranty on new truck and most Insurance offer roadside assistance.

  • @jeffreyulery2182
    @jeffreyulery2182 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well it's 25 cpm now so it's more than a monthly truck payment by a few hundred and that's if you only do 5k miles. Here is my pov for con's for lease. You don't own it You can't box delete You can't add a fuel cell Dead head miles are more expensive If you use it for anything other than work it adds up. Cons for buying truck You own it Maintenance So honestly I'm on the fence but as I rant here let me go ahead and toss my projected numbers. I'm a otr truck driver so I can't use 5k miles a month as an example Usually work atleast 40 of 52 weeks. But I'll use 40. 12600 yearly cost of new truck payment / (40 weeks x 3000 miles) gives use a cost of 10.5 cpm Now a rental you have to use every month but I'll just say the same miles so 120k x .25 is a annual cost of 30k 30k minus 12600 is 17400 a year. Really it's upto the individual. You can take the 17k/yr and use it for repairs and save on fuel or you can pay the extra cheese upfront and let someone else handle it. If you buy make sure you plan on paying it off early so you can buy another while it goes in the shop for a rebuild.
