Bravo! Hope he keeps up! From one (ragtime) pianist to another, do not stop (see my TH-cam videos of me playing). Although I do not wear a cochlear implant but I do wear a hearing aid in my good ear ever since I was 2 years old and took up piano at age 7. And I never looked back.

I understand how the actual exterior part works, but how is the implant inserted into the ear?

This is wonderful Drew is able to enjoy the water with his implants. My son too loves the water and he has bilateral cochlear implants. @flippinup I know of people who have had face muscles droop because drs touched wrong nerves (I have a terrible time with implants for children. It's elective surgery and is permanent. they "remove" your hearing nerve in the ear they do surgery on it..So if they don't get it right- you are TOTALLY DEAF with out it. No MRI's ever in your life!!! .(Hearing aides are getting amazingly good. Insurance is willing to pay for CI but not hearing aides??? society is so backwards!

@flippinup Drew did not have any complications at all, but it is like any other surgery and does have those normal risks. Make sure to ask the surgeon about them so you're completely informed.

@DrforkintheLung300 If you put a very light magnet on his head with the implant off, it will stick. He's had a few fun times with that.

@codagals We had to decide whether to withhold the surgery, or withhold his ability to speak and hear in the best possible way.

@TheMadMusicMan You can see a very small white, flat scar if the implants are off right behind his ear. You wouldn't notice unless you were looking with your face a foot or so from his ear. That's it.

@xevos0719 You certainly don't have to get them if you don't want to. Best wishes.

@Deafbabe100 In this video Drew has his implant in a waterproof bag, held on his head with the swim cap. The newer implants are 100% waterproof, but we were able to let him swim for the last several years with this setup.

i have just had my cochlear implant operation 2 days ago, im having my cochlear implant swtiched on the 22nd september. My older sister is also deaf too she had her operation when she was 8, she is now 16 nearly 17, she can hear perfect and she also can hear alot of things she couldnt hear before like me at the moment. she can now hear nearly everything i cant wait tio become like her and be able hear alot. i recommend people who hasnt had their operations to have it done, its amazing.

doctor cut the bone ( small round ) discarded. burnt the hair of cochlea, then put the wiring then put magnet inside then put resin round to fit the circle of bone then cover skin stitches... ( saw video) ... sickening...

How many time will the exterior devices or interior device become defect... : bacterial infection, Electrocution, corresive wires, break inside the thin bone to the brain, statics inferences... IT IS SAD!!!.

you know remove bone ( small circle remove throw out and put burn the hair in cochlea then insert the wires inside and magnet solder ( saw video on surgery) then put resin circle then skin cover stitch. When their head grow ... I always wonder remove resin , replace magnet???

Is there any visual evidence of him having the implant when the proccesor is not attached to his head? Like does the magnet in his head show at all through the skin?

@TurnOnMyEars Congrats from Argentina you have a nice & smart son. I have a 2 1/2 year old son, that was implanted 1 year ago, and it`s amazing how his life changed, it just opened up a world full of possibilities. It`s such an amazing feeling to see his progress. I cannot understand how people can even question the benefits of CIs, but you know what, it doesn`t matter, because by the end of the day, we get back home, and our sons come to welcome us with a big smile, and words (lot of them)

@kd1s Yes, everything can hook right on your ear. Some people add a piece of wig tape to help it from falling off if you're going to be doing sports, etc.

@deafculture17 I don't know how it sounds like, and I can't really ask Drew b/c he's only 4 and he has no sounds to compare it to! He hears well with them, though...that's for sure.
