Incredible 2024 Great American Eclipse from Arkansas
I flew from Los Angeles to Dallas to see the 2024 Eclipse. Then drove 5 hours to central Arkansas for a better weather forecast. I found a peaceful quite spot on the Arkansas river in the town of Morrilton- on the center of the totality path. It was an incredible experience of a lifetime!

Great video, excellent camera work, really liked the subtitles in lieu of commentary. Thankyou.
This brought back some memories. In September 1968 I rode the now defunct Canadian Pacific train cross country from Montreal. Upper berth in those days. Very fond memories of that trip.
Did this from Vancouver to Toronto. Worst trip ever. Arrived 23 hrs late. Spent so much time waiting for freight to pass. We were allowed out in one small town for twenty minutes. Same food 2 days in a row. No games, reading material or descents snacks. Add to that they gave us the wrong room. Then we had a conductor who embarrassed my wife when she did her diet request by shouting out in front of everyone “ wadda ya got diabetes ?” When we were arriving late a woman was crying because she missed her international flight and the conductor just laughed at her. I wouldn’t do this again if you paid me. We managed to get money back.
I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. I experienced delays as well, and some rude service. But I really enjoyed the views and beautiful weather. It's not for everyone though
I have been watching these videos alot this is on my bucket list, i live in halifax and dont know the best route to take, ive travelled the ocean many times in econmy but would love to do the whole trip through canada ,.any advice
Outside of Winnipeg union station, the intersection of Broadway, & Main Street, I don't like that dual left turn lane contrary to the same time, pedestrians across the street from the station!

Very cool! thank you for watching and commenting!
except for showing us dead creatures on a plate, this was a nice video
LOL! You're welcome- glad you liked the video :)
I think that a part of the train ride that has been bypassed is the southern route over Lake Superior. The northern route is mostly muskeg and flat terrain as opposed to some wonderful vistas from S.S.Marie to Thunder Bay. That is the CPR as compared to the CNR on the northerly track. A small quibble but I've seen both and prefer the CP leg.

WORDERFUL JOURNEY
Thanks so much for watching! It really was a wonderful journey!
VIA The Canadian uses the Canadian National route from Jasper to Vancouver. This is beautiful but the Canadian Pacific route from Banff to Vancouver is spectacular. Rocky Mountaneer runs a train on this route but it is very expensive.
Yes- I would love to ride on the Rocky Mountaineer. A very luxurious train but costs a couple thousand. Thank you for commenting Bill!
A+ video of this wonderful train , now i really want to do this, on my bucket list since i was 15, the rockies is my favorite spot for sure, but Canada sure is beautiful!!🥰🥰😃
Thank you so much! It was a trip of a lifetime, and the Rockies were definitely the highlight. I hope you can do this trip someday! I appreciate your comment and thanks for watching!!
Complete contrast to the UK. This railway would never have been completed with the attitudes that prevails in the UK. Too expensive to build Why destroy areas of " outstanding natural beauty " ,whatever that means. The money could have been spent on the nhs Let's just concrete over the UK!
Yes I agree. Thank you for sharing your comments!
ps Wow I just saw more and this train looks plush and posh!
Yes it was pretty nice! I couldn't afford to stay in a Prestige cabin. But I was able to enjoy the luxurious Prestige park car. The food was great too. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
An amazing post!! How did you get all the different shots from the roof of the train when it was moving? And where are all th passengers? it seems empty but comphy and nice! Best, from Colorado!
Thank you so much Trish! I sat in different positions on the top observation desk and then edited them together. This trip was during the pandemic and there were very few people on the train. Most of the passengers were in the coach cars- just commuting from one city to the next. It was an amazing trip though! I hope life is good in beautiful Colorado!!
In the last eighteen months I've travelled on quite a few virtual train journeys, but this one beats them all. What a terrific experience! I've always wanted to see The Rockies and now I have. Thank you so much for this brilliant video. Everything about it is perfect. ❤
Thank you so much Anna for your very generous compliment! It really means a lot to me. I'm not a professional TH-camr, and I didn't think this video would get that many views. It's not perfect but I think I captured the best parts of this trip. I'm glad you enjoyed watching it!
I like that this video doesn’t have talking it’s very relaxing
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for sharing your comment! I don't like the sound of my voice so I decided on captions instead.
Ok. Am Annoyed. One moment you show the overpowering might ot the Rockies and Mount Robson, and then you show nothing about getting through them? WTF? 5000 ft elevation. Nothing? And now you are on the river. Massive BS. Boring and stupid.
Thank you for this. I am re-motivated to "giterdone". What cracks me up is the background audio. Despite the beauty and the trip, women are absolutely incapable of shutting up. Babble babble babble.....
You're welcome TJ! I agree- the constant chatter ruins it. On one of my older train videos I was seated near a loud mouth who was saying the most idiotic things for most of the trip. So I had to cut out all the audio and fill it in with music, rather than have no audio at all. But viewers hated the music too- it had to be copyright/ royalty free music which is not the best quality. But anyway- I hope you're able to do this incredible trip someday. Thanks so much for your comment!
This is Awful!! The first time I recall hearing paul and/or Beatles sound so bad! Whose Brilliant idea was this????? Who the hell is stevenn kelso????? SIT DOWN, STEVEN WITH THE DEFECTIVE EAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As you age, your voice ages too. I'm just happy to see this iconic legend still performing and singing live at his age. On other songs he sounded better than this one and I still enjoyed the show. So many artists don't sound good live and they use backing tracks to make them sound decent. At least Paul is the real deal :)
Four days or four nights?
It was 4 full days and 4 nights :)
What was your favorite meal on any of these trains (you can more than one)? Also how many hours of uninterrupted sleep did you get on each on every train you took?
Hi Chris- none of these meals were very good- they were frozen microwave meals. During the pandemic they had no kitchen staff to serve their regular meals. I guess my favorite one was the spicy shrimp over rice. The first night on the train was hard to sleep, I had to get used to it. But then I was able to sleep about 6 hours uninterrupted. Thank you for watching!
2/3 of the trip is plains, flat country.
Yes it was a very long stretch in the middle with just plains and small towns. I'm still glad I did the full route but its also a good option to just do the Edmonton to Vancouver route which is the best part.
Thank you for an amazing video. And good luck to you for the best weather for beautiful scenery.
Thank you so much Rune- I really appreciate your kindness. I'm glad you liked the video!
I see my house in Collins
No way! That's so cool haha! Thank you for watching :)
@@PhotoBug28 I live in Collins year round. I see the via every 2 days
How lucky you are! I would love to live there and be able to see the train from my home! When I was 10 years old I stayed with my relatives in Japan- their home was close to a railroad track. Whenever I heard the train signal bell I would run out to the balcony to see the train pass by. It was just a small 1 car local commuter train- but I thought it was the coolest thing ever haha.@@lizaspade7737
Wonderful! So peaceful and relaxing just to let Canada - often gorgeous - slip by to the hypnotic sound of the train on the tracks. Thank you!
Thank you so much Steve! I'm really glad you enjoyed watching it. I appreciate your comment :)
this is canada only train and it cost a fortune to get on its a total waist of public money im ashame to be canadian
I'm ashamed that your Canadian, too. Hardly Canada's only train. Facts matter.
@@dogmaticagnostic7716 your a little woke maybe
@@Richard-lg2lz when you can't get the facts right, I don't think you should be talking outside your white-wing truck parking lot. The train from Toronto to Vancouver is NOT Canada's only train. Is it? How stupid are you?
Thanks Steve, this is absolutely the best Great Canadian Rockies video ever.
Thank you so much Peter, that's very kind of you! I'm not a professional videographer, but I'm glad you found it enjoyable!
Im thinking of travelling this summer 26 Jun 2024 via Economy. Is it ok to do that ? What are my washroom and shower options ? And sleeping options? And i heard that I can buy meals. Is my luggage always accessible? Please guide bro
Hello! The cheapest option is a regular coach coach class seat- which does not have access to showers or included meals. I would recommend a sleeper berth- which is basically a bunk bed on the top or bottom and includes your meals as well as showers. And there are the regular cabins which are pretty expensive. Prices vary depending on the time of year so I would check the Via Rail website. If you have your baggage checked into the luggage car you will not be able to access your luggage during the trip- so keep all the essential items with you in a smaller bag. Good luck with everything!
What is the max sspeed of the train
On the trip
Hi Kenneth- he Max speed of this train is 130 km/h. The average speed various a lot throughout the route depending on the track condition and landscape- usually slowing down to around 50 km/h for much of the way.
Great video, bravo, I enjoyed it very much and Canada is a really beautiful country. Thanks again
Thank you very much! I fell in love with the beauty of the Canadian landscapes. I'm glad you enjoyed this video!
STEVE, you have done a fantastic job. I have seen many train videos but I never seen one like yours. You showed us the beautiful view you did not have a lot of talk or noise you had some beautiful explanation on the screen . I salute you and thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your very kind compliment! It really means a lot to me. Even though I'm not a professional TH-camr- just a tourist filming on my phone. I'm glad you enjoyed watching it. Take care my friend!
Looks like a lot of fun but wearing those face diapers is a NO GO!
Definitely- the mask requirement was not fun. Glad that's over with!

what time of the year was this taken?
This trip was taken at the end of May. Thank you for watching!
Th food looks a lot better the American offering, very picturesque route, great trip.
Yes the food was much better than on Amtrak. Thank you for watching and commenting!
One of the most beautiful train ride🙏
Absolutely! Thank you Marleen for commenting :)
Via rail boasts of offering discounts to senior passengers and disabled passengers. I tried to book tickets for my wife who has disability in walking. She walks with a cane, nevertheless she falls down. I am her supporter in walking and if she needs to go upstairs she holds my arm. When I booked a ticket for my wife on via rail train #1 and then a ticket for myself as an assistant; website completely ignored. I called service centre no answer.
I'm really sorry to hear that Andy. That's terrible customer service. I know that it's difficult to get a hold of a live person on the phone. But they really need to address the issue you had on the website with booking tickets as an assistant for your wife. Perhaps when you check in at the station you can talk to someone who can make the necessary changes. Despite this problem I hope that you and your wife will manage to have a good trip on Via Rail.
damn, i love that music intro
SHARON SHNEYER, Philadelphia PA. Thank you for the wonderful video, which while I haven't watched yet, I did save it to email to watch at another time. The days of me traveling anywhere are not possible, but I can remember my late parents taking me across the US by train where we stopped and visited national parks and other places (we also did some flying). Later when my parents took me with them to Europe for a month we had an EuroRail Pass. As an adult, (and one-time rail and transit activist), I was able to do some traveling by myself. My most memorable experience (excluding the fact that I had to go from Philadelphia to New York City first), was taking the train to Toronto (my favorite city), and then taking the Ontario Northland Railway, which I don't know if it exists anymore), to Cochrane, Ontario, an overnight ride and I had a single roomate, where I stayed for a few days, and then took the Polar Bear Express from Cochrane to Mosinee. It was 2 1/2 hours up each way, and you had 5 hours there and you could walk around (I don't remember if there was a tour or not, but I wrote everything down on the trip including what I ate). There is a hotel there. It is where the James Bay starts. I then spent about a week in Toronto, a few days in Ottawa, and a week in Montreal (doing this all by train of course). I'm still in awe of Cochrane. I always tell people who are younger, that if you are going to do any traveling, do it while you are young, because you never know what will happen when you get older. Even expensive places like New York City, you can figure out how to do things cheaply. In Washington DC, the museum's are free. I look forward to watching your video at a more practical time.
Thank you so much Sharon for sharing those wonderful memories of your train travels! You're lucky to have been able to have done all that from a young age. Many people I know have never traveled at all or have even been outside of their state. I also love Toronto and Montreal. You're right that it's easy to explore these regions on your own and do it on a budget. It's a common regret that retirees have that they wish they had done more traveling when they were young. I started when I was 26, I'm 43 now and I'm hoping to stay active and healthy so I can keep traveling until I'm 80- we'll see haha. I hope you'll enjoy watching this video when you get a chance. I appreciate you sharing your comments. I hope all is well in Philadelphia!
Two observations. It seems to me going from Vancouver to Edmunton and back would the most scenic route. Secondly, the communities that have train stops are missing the boat by not offering food trucks or pop up markets at stops away from town centers.
Yes- the route between Vancouver & Edmonton is definitely the most scenic part. And that would have been a great option to have some food trucks and vendors at some of the stops that were outside the cities! Thank you for commenting :)
Wonderful travel,with special landscapes. ❤
Thank you for watching and commenting Francisco! Yes the landscapes were truly beautiful- especially when you see it in person :)
Great Video but i imagine it was not cheap to take this trip which i would love to do sometime. I wonder if they have an super kinds of deals at any point for traveling on the Canadian
Hi Sean, thank you for the compliment! It was a pretty expensive trip for the sleeper berth- I think I paid around $1,600. A regular coach seat is cheaper of course but I really wanted a bed to lay down and sleep for such a long multi day trip. The prices fluctuate but I haven't heard of any big sales where the fares are drastically reduced. Thank you for watching :)
