Very interesting and informative his help in releasing a young Irishman being captured from the the British forces 1921 helped him from being attacked home destroyed in 1922 lucky but that snob Farnham complaining but not being able to collect rent anymore showed what a contemptible snob he was at least Nugent a Souper Irishman a fine soldier of many years not collecting rents like snob greedy Farnham

Very interesting and informative talk Cavan certainly not much studied what baffles me is the loyalists like Scott Johnston others knowing they were a minority I'm Cavan why would they be against Ireland being independent and prosperous and knowing history by both sides why would the Irish want to be British you mentioned the Dail courts that countered the British courts in the Irish revolution was very effective and a weapon then it wasn't just the IRA that was triumphant they defeated the British judicial system

This was a wonderful presentation, a real treasure. I found it after watching another presentation by Monsignor Kelly for the "Cavan Calling" festival online. Every family story is part of the human story, which is important to growth and understanding.

Thankyou for this fascinating lecture. My own grandfather was arrested by the Black and Tans in early December 1920 and spent a whole year in Ballykinlar. He came out emaciated and never regained his health, dying at the age of 29 in 1926. I have often wondered how many others died young as a result of the treatment they received. His name was James McPhillips and he lived in Butlersbridge. Two of the Foynes family, who were his neighbours, were also taken that day.

ASU from Belfast deployed to Lappinduff in May 1921, One killed in action and 10 captured = sentenced to death and reprieved by the Truce,
