The Dhammapada (Pāli; Sanskrit: धर्मपद, romanized: Dharmapada) is a collection of sayings of the Buddha in verse form and one of the most widely read and best known Buddhist scriptures.[1] The original version of the Dhammapada is in the Khuddaka Nikaya, a division of the Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism.
The Buddhist scholar and commentator Buddhaghosa explains that each saying recorded in the collection was made on a different occasion in response to a unique situation that had arisen in the life of the Buddha and his monastic community. His translation of the commentary, the Dhammapada Atthakatha, presents the details of these events and is a rich source of legend for the life and times of the Buddha.

In 1983 I worked in a public library. An elderly woman came in and requested this book. I knew the library didn't have it. The year before, this was part of the required reading for an undergraduate class I took in Eastern Philosophy. I told the lady I had a copy and offered to lend it to her. Two weeks later, she returned the book to me. Inside was a very nice handwritten note of thanks and how much she enjoyed the book. I still have both the book and the note.

@spirit ._. It's founded on the four Noble truths. Meditation is the key. Training ones mind to let go of thoughts and feelings. Concepts to help stay in present awareness. Five obstacles to a pure mind. Concept of no self; teaching of impermanence; everything is empty; taking refuge in buddha is taking refuge in the present. Making ones home the present. Being free of the need to think. A trained mind.
