Harvesting and processing our honey from the hives. This video takes you through the process of how we do it. Small batch honey. This year the bees did not produce much honey because of the weather. I have talked to a number of beekeepers and they are pretty much having the same harvest as we are. The bees ate through all of their spring honey to sustain the hive.
We do not pasteurize our honey, it is strained and bottled. As nature intended!

About 8 years ago we ordered about 30 Miscanthus Sinensis 'Gracillimus'. We then measured out the strip to be planted and put the "fence posts" in the ground for winter interest. Sunday we spent the morning planting some new shrubs. Ruby Spice Summersweet Clethra is so fragrant and it promises to be deer resistant (we'll see). Planted Annabelle Hydrangea and Ninebark Diablo that were made from cutting very early in the summer. The roots look very healthy and they were ready to be planted. This morning I did some much needed trimming. The front entry was being blocked by Annabelle Hydrangeas. I weeded the stairs and then took after the beebalm and cut some Sea Holly for dried flowers. The other walkway the was trimmed was right in front of the porch and trimmed up the Butterfly Bush and some perennials that were spent. #gardening #garden #novascotia #flowers

What you can do if your able to come to the bee yard again soon the brood will hatch in a few days if it’s capped you can leave the frames that have brood and take your honey they will hatch and you can come back and take the box With the few frames off they won’t have time to make a mess in the box
I did go back after a week and the brood had hatched. I then put the mite treatment on. (Formic Pro strips)

No I don't sell them, I use them in my garden and gift them to friends. It really works well and I tried beebalm and it worked for that plant too!

I also winter sow, but my containers have covers.. so that I get a greenhouse effect. I have used plastic cloches from the dollar store. The containers from a rotisserie chicken also works great. Be sure to put drainage holes in tops and bottoms. I find the covers keep the squirrels and birds from disturbing the soil and seeds.
