Lovely voila/violin. That wood will look beautiful when it's stained. Can't wait for it to be given to a musician or maybe a kid playing an instrument for the first time.
I see you have a bunch of firewood there... Cut your losses and scrap it.

Is all of the wood in the final result the same but glued or is it completely different wood but a very precise recreation of same shape, thickness etc?
All the wood is the same except for the side panels.

Execellent video. What prompted you to take on this extensive repair on this particular instrument? It seemed that you started with a working violin and worked to re-graduate the top plate thickness. Was the sound therefore noticeably improved? The look of the finished instrument is beautiful. I wish that it was possible to share your finishing technique and vocalize the re-shaping process.

The customer must have had a great love for that instrument, otherwise I don't understand why give it up for repair in that condition. I imagine you must have warned the customer that it wasn't worth it, right? That was a lot of work. Well done!!
Love is the driver of many things in life. 😉 On the contrary, this process was a real pleasure, a lot of suspense, but the end result was fascinating.

That's amazing. I can't believe it stays together after being so broken. Could you please tell me though, at one stage you show what looks like the same instrument but with no color. Did you strip it right back and revarnish it? If so, how did you go about it. Thank you
Yes, i strip down the varnish with violin luthier tools (Various functions scraperg board scraping cutter)
