I can help you with the toiled thing. It was also "popular" at some time in germany and it purpose is to see if you have healthy poo without parasites (I heard that at some point there was parasite epidemy so they introduced shelved toilets).

Jeśli chodzi o te dwa rodzaje toalety, to ten z półką był ponoć najpierw rozpowszechniony w szpitalach bo łatwiej było pobrać próbkę kału. Wydaje mi się, że jedyną zaletą takiej toalety jest to, że woda nie chlupnie w tyłek podczas wypróżniania xD
