I came here to hear Willis in his early years. What a monster bassist he is. It's interesting to hear the evolution of his sound too, from Tobias to Ibanez. His Tobias bass sounds like it has a cold, compared to the Ibanez models he has out now.

Thanks for posting! I saw them at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, summer of '86, part of the Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea and Al DiMeola tour. An incredible concert. Scott Henderson played with Chick at that time. Great musicians in their prime.
The whole set is perfect. Mitchel Forman solo excellent.😉
...what what what is the jam after Face On The Barroom Floor, heard Wayne play this many times but never heard a title...RIP Wayne Shorter we will never see the like of you again...

I've always loved it a lot that when Gary Willis solo's he uses the lower register to much greater extent than most electric players. BASS solos yeah!
This is the bass Jeff had when I was in high school music class. He didn't even rout it for the rear pickup yet. I didn't know a damn thing about music, could barely tune it at the time. One thing's for sure, he really did carry on with music after that, and I've worked in the food business my whole life. Mad respect wherever you are, Jeff. I mean it.

When played by itself, this is called “Ballroom in the Sky,” which can be heard on recordings of the 1988 Carlos Santana and Wayne Shorter tour. However, in many of Wayne Shorter’s late 1980s and early 1990s line concerts, a shortened version of “Ballroom in the Sky” served as an introduction to “Footprints.”
Jeff was such a brilliant player... Great tone, timing, and phrasing, nothing short of Genius!
