Ah haa! Finally an informative video for the whining diff issue that plagues the Morris Minors. Have you been able to determine whether this is the actual cause yet or just a possible cause? I've a 1955 803cc with a noisy back end and not sure whether to replace the diff completely (even then I'm struggling to find the correct diff ratio replacement) or to repair it... which I think I'd struggle with
I replaced the thrust washers and it is makes a lot less noise . It now makes noise from 45mph ,where as before it was from 25mph Originally the diff was great but it ran low of oil on the A40 , it virtually seized , (stupid me i should have checked it) I managed to limp the car home .The copper washers were nearly worn through It will probably come off again a few times because i have noticed about 2mm of back lash on the crown wheel , this might be what is causing the noise from 45mph. But i dont mind as i enjoy the learning experience of taking it all apart . Main lesson is to CHECK OIL LEVEL ! , Wont make that mistake again.
