Hi, very informative video about measuring. Do you have a link to the second part of the video. We are planning to order a half landing winding staircase and hopefully do it ourselves as we can’t find joiners.

Fit the bottom riser to the stair before you lift it in place. Its much easier to wedge the stringer housing and fit the glue blocks when the stair is on its side.

This is assembling a stair case, not fitting a staircase.

Once the handrail is fixed, can you remove it easily enough at a later date? thanks

Not if you glue the handrail to the newel post. I've just finished replacing 9 newel posts and base rails on our stairs - now doing handrails an once cut to an exact length I realised, with newels securely in place, there is no way these fixings are going to work as the screws would need to protrude out of the the end of the handrails, which are cut exactly to fit. The only way to achieve this is if the newel posts are loose - which of course I've ensure they're not. I suspect the only way to really make this work is to glue the rails (as it says on this video) but which I really didn't want to do. The chances of getting a solid, tight, safe fitting with these fixings I think is minimal. I plan to speak to Stairbox on Tuesday after the Bank Holiday. Update: We've now got all the hand rails in except one (the glass panels were both scratched on arrival and we're awaiting replacement) - it was much better than I had thought. You do need a little bit of movement in at least one newel post - but not much, just a 4-5 mm should do it. Raked rails were actually easier to get in than the level rails, but you do need to be very careful as you remove from dry fitting to avoid scraping the screw head on the edge of the fixing hole in your post. I used a small amount of instant grab adhesive on each newel post just below the fixing hole, having dry fitted everything to be sure.

@@markirason Yes I did, and although they are friendly and tried to be helpful, they didn't have much advice. Update above though. I would use these again myself.
