Boucher is not a family picnic trail. Next time try a hike to Havasupai, spend the night and then hike out. Much safer and easier and there’s plenty of rangers around.

Where did you buy the chickens from?

I have hiked the Boucher trail in both directions several times i have hiked it in snow storms, I have hiked it in lightning storms The most dangerous stretch is the stretch between the Dripping Springs Junction and Yuma Point bc it's long , narrow , exposed ,has no escape routes, and a lot of space on one side If I met this family on my trips up and down the Boucher, I would have given their fearless leader a not-so-friendly lecture that would have made him change his mind about continuing their hike

I’ve guided green horns on this route 7 times, but find people need to take it easier and take care of their knees and acclimate over a longer period of time. The first trip was 4 nights, but I found that 6 nights are by far the best. We stay two nights at Boucher Creek, which a fantastic place to explore for its history. We stay 2 nights at Hermit Rapids on high ground. That is a wonderful place to enjoy and explore and watch rafters. The great thing too about this route is the availability of water. We hike to Hermit Creek and stay the last night before hiking up and out. Walking up Hermit Creek from the camp ground is an amazing experience and almost spiritual with its beauty, flowers, pour offs, sculpted sandstone and bathing pools. Every time I do this route I see it differently. We condition by climbing hills and building weight in our backpacks for 3 months before our Grand Canyon trips. I have helped many people who misjudged what they could handle and manage on this trail. I always bring extra tubes of Vaseline to give to people with blisters on their feet. Vaseline cuts the friction if one builds it up enough in their socks. For the ages of your children, this was quite an undertaking. These are totally non-maintained trails and there are easier ones. However, on this loop you don’t meet many people and that is what I enjoy about it. That and the fact that it is challenging and provides some of the best scenery in the world. Your kids will never, ever forget this adventure, Good job and you were wise to do what you could and not push any harder. Fun to see how you and your family manage your lives together. Nile is a hiking rock star, much like a 17 y.o. Kid I brought in once - easy as pie for him. That trip was a gift from his parents for graduation from high school and they accompanied him.

A little soap in the scald water helps the feathers come out easily.

Glad you turned around this trip just seemed like reckless planning. You even say how hard it is but you brought children who have never hiked the Grand Canyon on one of the hardest trails. In the park. And someone was slipping or sliding and everyone was crying watching??? Jesus man. Probably shouldn’t have had the camera out either. I agree with kid saying can’t believe your recording, I guess cool yo have footage but if anything happened then you have that incident recorded which sounds terrible. And just by how the trip was going you probably should have stopped worrying about filming and worried about getting everyone out safely.
