Mice yuck We found dryer sheets help. Everyplace in side. Don't buy the cheap ones. The more they smell the better. Also they have mice traps that the mice eat then they l.drink water and swell and done finished. We found they come up from the tires. They go up the tires. We put one on the top of each tire. We have been pretty successful but nit perfect. Good video. This was helpful to watch

Ahh yes Niagara falls. Never been there myself but I recognized some areas. Cause my great aunt used to live in Canada and send us pictures of these areas. Also cool cars on every corner.

How fortunate to have been blessed with such a great original frame and powertrain! While your conversion to a convertible frame, I would suggest that you examine the original frame for any spots where that frame is showing any signs of rust through, stress cracking or twisting. This would be the time to do your best to guard against future rust on the new frame. You can also add some additional gussets or bracing to help prevent the stress and twisting that you may find on the old frame. Since your going to inspect the innards of the motor, I don't know if it's possible or not, is there a combination of boring and stroking the block to maybe 428 cubes and power? 390 inches are good, but the 428's really are better when attached to a lead foot! Can't wait to finished frame and drive line. I think you owe the previous owner of that frame a big drink and a thank you! CHEERS!

Great move , nicer frame will save you time, the Bigger 390 engine will make this big Merc move down the road , Now if you can find a tri power set up and add it on the top you will have the ultimate Monterey

That is major progress. The convertible frame looks like someone did a first time welding job. However I think the material choice must have been very poor as well. So even if it was welded properly or the right way. Since the frame material was craptastic it would have rusted out anyway. One thing with these early Fords is you have lot of options to modify things later. Not so much the case with new Fords from recent times.

For safety. That pin can't slip out accidentaly ; ever.

maybe its was riveted together wrong like you said and installed as an e brake assembly with the cable already attached on the factory line. dont know what the other end of the cable is attched to though so that might not be possible.

what about the big hole in the bracket that looks like it will line up when you push the e brake pedal down? the pin will slide out through the hole?

Must have been one heck of a skilled worked to put the pin the other way around. Or maybe this was a work of a apprentice worker? Kind of from the looks of it this seems to be the case with this entire car really. I have heard also incorrect hardware being used and bolts smashed into the body because the hole was not threaded right or they had the improper hardware. I know one case with the 70s Ford LTD. But than again maybe this was all intentional cause the service life of these vehicles was not expected to be too long anyway?

I will agree with your assessment of the incorrect orientation of the parts during the assembly of the e-brake pedal and bracket. Probably a new recruit on the line. And probably on a Monday as well. I have never run across things like that in a vehicle. But I have found issues with hardware that was supposed to be fabricated and sold in pairs, lefts and rights. Occasionally I would have found the pairs to be all one side or the other. Speaks volumes about lack of quality control. Or it could be just a case of "FRANKLY MY DEAR, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN" I am sure that you have heard the stories of coke bottles tied to string and hung inside of quarter panels.😊 CHEERS!

If the actual part was not redesigned then the original part number stayed the same. For example, the radiator expansion tank on the 63 Lincoln is unchanged from 61 and it bears the C1 part number.

Old school welders like these are disappearing at a fast rate. I was more wondering on the typical places where these old Ford cars tended to rust out? Usually it's the major culprit is moisture that gets trapped and has no where to went out.

This kind of goes back to the questions you were asking in the last video about using parts for more than one or two years. @8:17 I swear that I am looking at the side of either a base model 1964 or a 1965 Falcon! Is it possible that the front and rear doors from one make would bolt on to another with no modifications? I know that the Falcon's, Mustang's and the Comets shared alot of the engineering and mechanical parts. Is it possible that the Falcon and the Comet actually shared some of the same finished sheet metal skins? Very interesting video with a very interesting and talented gentleman. Freeman appears to be an old school body man who learned to massage steel instead of using new, used or reproduced replacement parts. I honor his talent and what little of his work you have shown us! He apparently loves his craft. It is so nice to see the results of a quality craftsman instead of a parts slapper. Thanks for the shirt by the way! It fits great and I have worn it several times! I worked in Ford Engine Engineering from 1963 to 2002. I was a design engineer, then supervisor. All I read from C1xx part numbers on a 1963 vehicle is those parts were carryover from the 1961 model year. No big deal. I found the Ford part numbering system the easiest & most information-filled system to work with. For instance C3AE-6250-A is ‘60s decade; 3rd year; Full size Ford is lead application; this is an Engine part - 6250 is a camshaft - A indicates this cam is the original release with no engineering changes. BTW: Ford had to carry a dual part numbering system because of legal requirements. That C3AE part number is the Engineering number. The Service number would have been C3AZ; the base part number 6250 would remain the same; the change level A or AA usually stayed the same, but not always. If you wonder why I picked “6250” as an example, it’s because my very first task as a co-op engineering student back in 1963 was to re-draw several dozen camshaft detail drawings because we were switching from the traditional leader line and arrow style drawings to Datum Line Dimensioning system. Much clearer & legible when entered into the aperture photographic system. Before that if you needed a print of a part, the drafting records area had to make a full size copy of the original drawing. A camshaft wasn’t so bad, cut a cylinder block detail drawing might be 36” or 42” wide by 60 feet long! The GM system was just a long series of numbers which only GM people who had a role in releasing parts might recognize.

If no change need to be made and older parts left they us them whitout the need to change parts number , commun pratice even today as my 2004 F350 powerstroke have a 2003 engine . Part get updated when needed and it's never in january first as most of the 63 can already be assembled in early 62 to be sold at the dealer in september 62 . That's why vehicule serial number madder when you order new parts , Ask me how i know loll

I do wonder if they ran out of the correct parts on the assembly line? Also some of the stamped numbers look like someone just smashed them in a random place. Since it's a Canadian build Mercury I would expect the unexpected things.

It's likely that there was no change in the bumper bracket from 1961 to 1963, so there was no need to create a new C3 part number. I've not really noticed on my 63 Galaxie what part numbers it has, but a 67 Galaxie I used to have had several 66 parts on it. There should also be on most parts a date code when the part was stamped. This would be probably within a month or two of when the car was assembled. So I'm theorizing that a part with a 61 part number could have a date code from 63. I have a digital copy of the 60-64 Galaxie parts book I can look at to see what part number the bumper bracket for my 63 Galaxie should have. Some parts would have the same number between the Galaxie and the Monterey. I think there is a specific Mercury parts book you could see if you can get.

An actual 12 or 11 second, street legal stop light killer, on pump gas! Something with that much personal history and time invested into it deserves to be completed and enjoyed. The Merc will be a wonderful gift to the REAL BOSS, for putting her 2nd, and borrowing her cars all these years. The Fairlane with the 455 monster will be wildly entertaining and enjoyable for getting any aggressiveness out of your system. So Merc 1st, Monte 2nd, Fairlane 3rd, Grand Am 4th. First off Great video! , I guess with the car it's about what the plans are with the car you yourself have to figure that out but you got the convertable on the burner and you still got sometime with that , do you let the monte sit ? That's a tough one and putt with it on the channel, but you also have the Fairlane definitely a solid car so you got a lot irons in the fire you just gotta figure out what ones are more important, my 2 cents buddy , I gotta get 1st shirt you mentioned
