Welcome to Matts Garage DIY. This channel is all about DIY projects, gear reviews/testing, gun repairs, camping, bush craft and survival on a budget. I started this channel at the beginning of COVID as a hobby and a way to share some of the interesting things I have learned or tried over the years. This channel, like most things continues to change and evolve based on my current projects, feedback, comments, and cool stuff that I find along the way. My mission is to provide step-by-step instructions so that you can do, test, and use many of these same ideas and products yourself, as well as giving straight forward and honest feedback on the products I use and try. All items or products used in my videos have been purchased by myself (much to Mrs. DIY’s displeasure), if this changes or I use an item given to me I will openly disclose that fact. Find links for many of the items in my videos, the good, the bad and the ugly.

Quick question? When i rack the slide i can hear the spring inside the rear stoc. Does it have to be cleaned or is that normal hearing it thru the stock? Just sounds noisy
That seems strange to me, not sure what would cause that but I would start with a good cleaning and checking that the bolt through the stock to receiver is tight.
Excellent video thanks for making things very simple !
Right on😀
The best explained vid great
Thanks hope it helped
The vapour generator length is good enough for Coleman fuel. It is excessively superheating gasoline and not heating kerosene and Diesel good enough. Diesel is not even fully converting to vapour. Here in India kerosene stoves are still ised by street vendors or in remote mountaineous regions where kerosene is easier to ship than butane. The kerosene burner creates excessive flaring with diesel due to under heating and gives out little heat with Gasoline due to excessive superheating which reduces the density of vapour.
Thanks for sharing, this is good info
Great video there eh! Last week my 1999 argo conquest stopped moving... clutch and belt still spinning, hopping just a clutch or weight problem and not a gen 1 transmission rebuild...😂
oh boy ya hopefully not, it is a lotttttt of work. Good luck
@mattsgaragediy looks like the key stock on the clutch fell off took belt off and I pulled clutch off by hand...
@@denislosieroutdoors Well that sounds way better then rebuilding the transmission
@@mattsgaragediy yessir, placed new key and found putter locking bolt and washer on the floor that fell off, now back in business 😎
Does anyone know if the feed latch is the same for the 1187? Took mine apart for a deep clean and had that piece come off and am struggling to get it back into place.
I believe they are, but I don't have a 1187 to compare. I googled 1100 / 1187 feed latch and several suppliers sell the same part for both so based on that I am assuming so. Hope that helps
@mattsgaragediy thanks for the response, I ended up getting it, it's just really tough to get back on there. Thanks again.
This is one of the best channels I have found. Straight to the point and great explanation!
Thanks, trying to keep it simple and to the point
Dose it hold zero
Hey Nathan, I found that it did hold zero but after a about a year the windage adjustment has stopped working. I believe that limiting this scope to 22LR would be best for longevity.
Thanks, I just finished restoring a Cooey 20g pre. 1965 your vid was a big help.. harr
Right on glad it helped!
Awesome video of the inside of the 1st Gen Argo transmission! Very helpful!
Thanks it was definitely a long process to take apart and put back together while trying to accurately document what was going on. Couldn't find anything else out there so it seemed like a good project to video. Hope it was helpful!
@mattsgaragediy I'm currently in the middle of a frame out of the tub restoration of my 2015 Argo 750HDi 8x8. It has the Admiral transmission in it.
@@2artactical55 Very nice, sounds like an awesome project, I'm currently doing a similar rebuild on my 1991 magnum.
I just got a Marlin 60. What are the symptoms of a broken disconnect spring?
I would say the symptom would be that be trigger does not release the hammer. When you pull the trigger nothing at all is likely happening. Does that sound like what you have going on or is there a different symptom?
Great video! Great cometary! Thank you
Thanks, glad it was useful
What is the trigger guard made out of? Polymer, steel, aluminum? I can’t find any answer online.
My assembly is plastic or polymer of some type, definitely looks to be a heat model piece. This may be why Remington does not want you to take it fully apart as it will probably not go back together
You can really use third hand in the end 😉
lol, yes that would make this much easier
Did the screw you used fit down all the way some say u need to thread the hole with a tap it seems you did not is this correct
You are correct, I did not need to tap the hole at all. I did file a bit of a point on the bottom end of the bolt, but very minimal. I don't think you need to worry about getting the screw all the way to the bottom as this would completely block off the gas tube and the action would not cycle.
Donde puedo conseguir pieza rifle esa marca
I get my parts from Numrich Gun Parts in the USA, they are a great supplier of older gun parts
Cool video, with some good upgrade ideas. Mustard is good for making a pattern, not tinting the entire surface. This is because it only patinas the steel where at the edges of where it is laid on the blade. If you make a line of mustard down the blade, what you will get is two lines of darker coloration where the mustard edges were. If you use very thin blotches with most of the mustard removed, you can get a mottled look. The best practice is to do a vinegar patina first to protect the entire blade, and then put a pattern on with mustard for looks.
Hey Clay, thanks for sharing, that is great info I will have to give it a try.
How is it holding up
I haven't used it much since as it didn't fit that rifle very well, really looking for a setup where I can easily have the short eye relief. Just picked up a Ruger 10-22 and I'm counting on putting it on that as my gopher and plinking gun.
Dude. You make this look hard maybe if you make it easier to see what you are excualy doing more so than talking alot, it would help. Still it's not the worst video
Thanks for the feedback. I am getting ready to make another shotgun disassembly video so I will keep that in mind. "Still it's not the worst video"🥲.....made me laugh when I read that, but there is truth in every criticism.
Rule no.1 always glue and screw!
True, I didn't at the time as I wasn't sure if I might be needing further adjust for various stock width but this size has worked great. Thanks for the input.
Great details for this video, great job
Glad it was helpful!
Good adaptation of an old idea. It would be interesting to see how various money belts function for supporting a concealed handgun and magazines.
Yes it would. In Canada any sort of concealed carry is not an option but if you have any experience please feel free to share, I'm sure any US viewers would appreciate it.
Thank you, Matt for the tutorial! Easy to follow and clear instructions. Also, great suggestion for using two different colors and it is more aesthetically pleasing. Two tone gives it more dimension. Cannot thank you enough for the video!
You're very welcome!
Excellent video!! Thank you for sharing…🇺🇸🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it
How would I replace the hammer spring? When I pull the trigger on mine the hammer just slowly moves forward. Any suggestions?
Hey Phil, I believe that spring in housed in the portion of the trigger assembly that is designed to not be taken apart, large pin through it that has been mushroomed over. From my understanding Remington has said to contact them if you need repairs. I realize this doesn't help any of us:( Unfortunately I would not recommend grinding out that pin, I don't know that you will be able to find a replacement piece if Remington has said don't take it apart. There may be but I would be surprised, sorry I don't have better news. If you cant see a physical broken spring in there may spray/rinse with wd40 to flush any grime that might have built up, may just be obstructed.

NIce video, but I am curious why you remove the cam? I have done this on several H35 and H40 motors and never needed to pull the cam out to get them out.
Thanks! I remove the cam and lifters simply because it makes it easier to work in the space, especially for reinstalling. Good to know that you can do it without that step though.
Hey mate, looking everywhere for the plunger that goes in the extractor of the bolt. Can't find one anyplace. By chance do you know the dimensions of it?
Hey is this the part you need? www.gunpartscorp.com/products/2042770c I've also attached a schematic of parts, lots of theses are available thru Numrich gun parts www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/remington/shotguns-rem/1100/parts-list-rem1100 Let me know if this helps
Do you sell parts? Any information?
My first stop for all parts in Numrich Gun Parts. www.gunpartscorp.com They have a ton of parts for all makes and models. I have had the most success finding parts for older guns with them

Damn, I pounded my pin over the block of wood and I have never gotten it out. I hammered the hell out of it. Any ideas?
Hey, couple things. First...and yes this is obvious so please don't take offense, make sure there is a hole in the block of wood that lines up with where the pin needs to drop, especially if you are having to hit it quite hard it is possible for the assembly to shift slightly and that just a bit of the larger bottom end is catching the block of wood. Assuming that is all good I would soak it with penetrating oil or trans fluid and acetone mixture several times a day for a week. Each time you reapply give it a few light taps. With the corrosive ammo you never know where a bit has gotten into and started a bit of rust or corrosion. Let me know if that helps.
Great tutorial. Saved my favorite Thermos from the landfill.
Nice!
Great video. Thank you for this. I'm going to make handles for my roof rack.
right on
I enjoyed this review and an answered my question. I think I will go with a Remington. Review would’ve been better if you had showed and described the gun you shot these rounds from. But thanks for the good info anyway!
Hey you bet, was shot from a Chiappa double badger 410/22lr. I didn't think to include that info but will definitely keep in mind for future videos, thanks for the feedback
Helped me with my dads model 20 too im rebuilding it for my son. It was a mess . Thank you for this video
Perfect, it was a bit of a learning process as I worked through it, not a ton of info out there.
Heh, we (Army) ate MREs a lot older than what you stated....
Hi Chris, I have no doubt that you did, if it comes down to it we can eat food well past the recommend expiry date. I am building these for hunting hiking and camping so I have the option to make sure everything is safe to start and to recheck every year or 6 months if they are on the shelf in my basement. What was the oldest MRE you ever had to eat?
@@mattsgaragediy we could never really tell the exact date, we knew they were old by the color of the mre pouch, the older ones were always a dark brown and the newer ones were tan.
Ahh I see, doesn't sound tasty :)
Thanks for the details of disassembling , came in handy to clean an old Marlin 60, the outside barrel has rush any recommendations for restoration of it. super video
Hey Gojoe, thanks for the comment. I have done some cold bluing with good results, but you need to keep in mind it will never be the same as getting the barrel hot blued. Also fixing a spot can be very challenging to match the same color. Here's a link I did about bluing: th-cam.com/video/Qv5blJVdd8c/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the video. I recently picked up a 1973 model that's almost in mint condition. Been browsing for this trick as I ordered a new recoil spring for it and when I install it, I plan to check the alignment of the ejector spring end as well rather than find out at the range it won't eject.
Good plan!
Tried doing this 3 times cleaned the firing pin made sure everything was good. Im still getting slam fire here and there i think ima have to replace the firing pin great video sir
Hey Vincent, are you getting the unintended firing when you first let the bolt close or is it more in the midst of shooting a mag? I did a little digging and found a post that offers two other suggestions of things to check. This information below is not from my own experience but does bring up some good points and info........ " A slam fire occurs when you cycle the rifles action by hand to load a round into the chamber and when the bolt falls forward the firing pin hits the cartridge primer and sets off the round. A double or triple fire is when the rifle sets off two or three rounds on one trigger pull. It seems to be caused mainly by one of two things...one a dirty gas tube or gas port (that was my problem) or two a worn out sear on the trigger group. (If you get too much oil on the trigger group it can cause the sear to slip as well). Clean out your gas system really good, scrub all the carbon deposits off the pistons and inner surface of the gas tube and ream out the gas port and that should solve the problem. Also make sure that you don't use too much oil on the trigger group components, just a light coat is all you need and then wipe off most of that. If all this doesn't fix the problem, I would replace the trigger group...a worn out sear is dangerous." Hope this info helps
This vid helped me take my TT apart and I found what I believe was causing my hammer to not lock all the way back, a bent sear pin! I'm gonna order a new one. Thanks!!
Right on, glad it helped
I struggled to follow this.... but then... all my para cord is green!
yep, one color can make it difficult to keep track, a piece of masking tape on one strand is a good trick I've used when just using one color to keep track of which is which
Seems simple enough. I've done this before but it's been years and I needed this refresher. I got an older 60, old enough that it doesn't have the last shot hold open. I cleaned it up and it shot well but being old hard to tell how many rounds have been through it I did a little preventative maintanance and got a new recoil spring and buffer. A new fring pin will be next
Perfect, yep part of me making these is so I remember in a few years how exactly I did it :)
@@mattsgaragediy i bet you're more mechanically inclined than me. have t watch a video over 10 times before it sticks. It really a booger to completely break down a 60in detail, side plates off, fying springs lol. The best vid I ever saw on that was done by a 12 year old kid, now I cant find the video, but I found another video by cumberland outdoors that shows it. Ammo wise i'm not picky at all, remington thunderbolts do me just fine
@@KennethRisner-fz9sc Thanks, any suggestions to make the videos better id be glad to hear. I wont repost this one but good to know for future ones
Still a useful video 😀 tyvm

Hola
hello
Hi Matts Do you know if there is something like safety valve on this BRS-12A burner!? For example when you change the 33 injector to 30, Is there some other parts to pay attention to?! I appreciate your respond! kind regards Chris
Hey Chris, I just changed the jet, nothing else. I did not see any safety valve, just a pressure relief valve on the tank itself. I would try to source good quality jets. I bought very cheap online ones, and although they work I can see the hole is slightly off center. Hope this helps.
Thanks for this step by step install it was so helpful
Right on!
Very helpful, needed a good 3 wacks with a heavier hammer to come out.
Nice!
Just inherited an 1100 from family that was highly neglected and ripped it apart. I was sitting there looking at all the pieces, unsure of mainly the second washer and decided to come to YT. Thanks for the thorough and clear video!
Glad this helped! Good luck with the restoration
Is the O Ring supposed be seated in the groove on the magazine tube, or pushed closer to the piston seal rings? Thanks for a well done video and narrative.
Hi Combat, sorry for the slow response, working nights :( O ring seats in the groove. Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@mattsgaragediy thank you 😊
