    I appreciate your videos. But you know most of us know the process of removing the door and hinges, but most have trouble with the mechanical process of removing those 50-80 year old bolts and screws. I'd like to see more of your "struggles" with stuff that is seized and difficult. I'm sure you regularly run across a repair like that.

    Great video. Sadly, I found that the hinges of my 47 GMC are slightly different. On the 47, there is only a single spring with 2 loops as opposed to the single loop "ram's horns" which seems to be the norm shown in your video. Any idea where I can source the double loop spring?

    i got a door seal for my chevy 1952 and install it in the right side you describe but the door do not close. The gap between door and cab is to tight so i need a thinner seal about 9/16" wide x 1/5" height so would you tell me if your seal are thinner and where to buy them?

    Please note: The Filling Station sells two different seals, the stock-type #C-145 and a smaller profile version, #70-331. If you have tight door gaps, 3/8" or less (check with softened clay around the door), order the smaller profile seal, #70-331. The smaller seal is twice the price but it can save you from having to reapply the seal if your doors won't close properly after installing the original-type seal. However, the smaller seal may not seal the door opening as well as the larger C-145 seal. The Filling Station can mail you samples of each if requested. Contact them at 800-841-6622.

    Classic Parts shows it the way Tom Fox, in the comments, suggests it goes. I must agree because if the long side faces the cab it needs to slip on contact with the cab which it will not do because of friction, but if it faces the length of the cab it pretty much just flattens out with no need to slip. Cut an 1 inch piece and try both ways to push it down, you will see what I mean.

    I have a 67 Buick Electra coupe, would you recommend that I insulate the Doors, and the side panels. I worrie about water, damp and then frost. Could IT damage the doors. If moist and water rolls down from the window openings? Btw I live in Denmark, Europe. Where the weather is cold, wet and damp all year around almost.

    I just finished installing my weatherstripping in this manner on my well-kept 51 and the doors shut perfectly. mwoolston100, I'm sorry you had to go through that nightmare, but this video shows the correct orientation, because I checked it against my deteriorated but original weatherstripping before proceeding.

    Finished first door, video was very helpful. One thing I would mention, as you pull your rubber off the 2x4 coil it becomes twisted after a few feet which is a hassle. Would be better to arrange some kind of roller rack; I'll try a paint roller on my second door. I also knocked together a sort of turntable out of 2x4's and some casters I had, pivoting on the umbrella hole in a patio table- made it easier to work around it in my cramped garage. Window tracks were comparatively easy.

    Hey Tom Fox, any tips on removing the weatherstrip adhesive on fresh paint? This has turned into a nightmare. Spent all that time preping and painting the pickup and now I have to scrape adhesive off because the orientation was wrong!

    • @rockerpat1085
      @rockerpat1085 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey brother. Use 3m 08984 general purpose adhesive cleaner. You can get it at your auto parts store. Hope this helps you. I'm sure you have it fixed by now. I'm building a 47 and going to be putting the weather striping on the door ad soon as I get through here. Keep Rocking Dude!!!

  • @mwoolston100
    @mwoolston100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I installed the weatherstripping following your instruction and the door would not shut because the weatherstripping was too thick on the long edge and will not compress. I did more investigation and I agree with Tom Fox, on the bottom, the long side goes to the door and you turn it 90 degrees going around the side with the long edge on top facing out. I wish I would have looked deeper before I put it on because getting the adhesive off is almost impossible on fresh paint (still having trouble - this cost me over a week - reordering and scraping)!!!!!
