Canon R6 Mark II Overhead Setup & Remote Control with Camera Connect
In this tutorial, we guide you through setting up an overhead camera angle using a C-Stand and ballhead, covering essential C-Stand techniques and safety tips. While this setup works with any camera, we focus on the Canon R6 Mark II and demonstrate how to use the Camera Connect app to wirelessly control the camera via Bluetooth. This feature is particularly useful for overhead setups where the camera may be hard to reach. With the app, you can start/stop recording, adjust exposure, resolution, and white balance, and even tap to focus-all from your mobile device. Although the app can be a bit buggy, its Bluetooth integration greatly enhances the convenience of remote camera operation. Have any questions or comments? Drop them below, and we’ll be happy to help!

One thing that helps me unravel the Stable vs Unstable issue is that it's not talking about lateral stability (wind). It describes the upward movement of an air mass. Generally, this means the air mass in/around a cloud. Unstable air masses indicate the up and down air currents, typically within cumulus. and cumulonimbus clouds. Stratus and cirrus clouds are visible in stable air masses. It really has nothing to do with ground level air mass... just the visibility. It's pretty useless info for an aircraft that is limited to 400 ft AGL, and another indication of bloated US Government bureaucracy. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the explanation!
Thanks!
Sure thing! Thanks for watching!
Appreciate your presentation. Love the straight-forward approach and lack of narration. Thank you for your notes in the description section. Looking for a guide for my hot pepper jelly/jam with Jalapeno, Serrano, Cayenne, and Habanero peppers. Have had a bumper crop this year, and have already made two different sauces, and a relish. Made a great jam last year, but didn't write down the recipe. Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words! We plan on making more of this style of cooking video in the future.
Excellent video! Thank you! Used so many other videos and resources but finally understand because of this one. Taking Part 107 tomorrow.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice guy
Has anyone found a waterproof case that works with the X8 ? I recently got one and I want to set it up outside to capture ambient sound with some clippy microphones but I am worried about it getting caught in the rain.
Can I apply the same rule to still photography? eg. shoot with 800 ISO?
Great question! When it comes to still photography, especially if you’re shooting in RAW, native ISO is generally less of a concern compared to video. The dynamic range in photos is usually well-maintained across various ISO settings, so you have more flexibility.
Did you use a plug in or wireless lavalier mic with the portacapture?
Hello Is there a way to create multiple files while recording?
Hello, thanks for watching! The DR-10L PRO doesn't have a dual recording mode, so there isn't a way to record multiple files. Hope this helps!
@@MeridianMedia ok wrong question, sorry i meant if, like the de-10l, there is the "track incrementation" option that every 15 minute save the current audio file that's recording
@@user-ye8px5bu6b There is no track incrementation option on the Pro version...not sure why they got rid of that
Doesnt export with speed effects though?
Hmm good question. Did you try nesting the clips first?
Thanks but I don't do videos with no explainer voice over

THANKS. It sure would have been nice for a redirect from the download page at TASCAM. It was about as bad uploading the firmware update.
Agreed!

Visited here in 2017 after 42 years away from Pittsburgh and it was awesome! So glad that an effort is being made to preserve historic structures here in Pittsburgh!
Couldn't agree more!
That so funny off center viewing is something that I do regularly to see in the dark but I never knew it was an actual thing. I thought my eyes were just weird
That's awesome! It's funny how we sometimes naturally do things without realizing there's a science behind it.
I dig the super clamp idea! I would never have thought about something like that. I have used a recorder many times (not just for weddings) and often have to plug into a DJ/audio guys board and I would just leave the recorder on the table, or sitting on top of the subwoofer, which is not a good idea. THANKFULLY! I have never had an issue. I will indeed at that to my audio bag. - Thanks!
Thanks for watching and glad you found the super clamp idea helpful!
Great video! Thanks! What do you think about using something like DJI Mic 2 (internal recording) at a wedding, for the sake of simplicity and even smaller footprint?
Thanks! The DJI Mic 2 has great specs and a small footprint, which is perfect for weddings. My only concern is the lack of a locking mic jack, but it's definitely a solid option. Would love to hear how it works for you!
Great video. Thank you. Does this apply to photography also? Or just video?
Thanks for watching! Native ISO is more important for video because it directly affects dynamic range and noise. In photography, dynamic range is generally well-maintained across various ISO settings, so it’s less of a concern. However, it’s still good to know about, especially in challenging lighting.
Awesome. Thanks so much for your time and for the reply. appreciate it.👍
I got the first two right as you’re going through them and seen them before but I’m glad you gave me number three. I have never seen that before. Thank you.
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
I just ordered it, paring with the zoom H6E. Not having to worry about gain control on set saves much time.
Very nice. You'll love the MKE 600. We've used it for 4 years now and I'm not sure I'll ever need to upgrade.
I loved the dual-record option from the older version. This new version doesn't seem to offer dual-record. Is that not necessary with the 32 float feature?
Great question! The older dual-record option was handy, but with 32-bit float recording on the DR-10L Pro, you can capture a much wider dynamic range. For example, you could record a whisper and a shout in the same take, and both would be perfectly clear without any clipping or distortion. This flexibility makes dual-recording less necessary. Thanks for watching!
You are saying "METAR" correctly
👍Thank you for confirming!
I took my 107 yesterday, and had all or these questions on my test. I dont remember seeing any of these things in the stuff I was reviewing. Passed anyways, but of course I saw this video after my test haha, would have helped prior to my test!
Congrats on passing your 107! Glad to hear you found the video helpful, even if it was after the fact. If you ever need a refresher or more tips, feel free to stop by again. Safe flying!
Dang, I do exactly the same with the same camera 👍👍👍
hi can you on the tascam X8 change the two small microphones at the top for two small stereo jacks from an ipad ?
Great question! Honestly I'm not sure...maybe someone else can chime in!
You can run regular inputs through the top jacks once the mics are removed.
Good job and thanks. Personally, after flying drones for the past 15 years with no "license", I find the entire "testing" idea to be obtuse. Sure, piloting a drone can create dangers, chewing gum can create dangers, riding a scooter can create dangers, etcetcetc. But the level and complexity of information required to learn for the drone test is completely ridiculous. Most anyone would have the most logical and common sense needed to operate a tiny drone. Of course there are always the dumbasses who want to show a video of flying above a commercial airliner, etc. so I get the need of some type of line drawn in the sand. But learning half of what a pilot training for license to fly a plane is overkill to the power of 10. AGL, MSL, all the codes, acronyms, etc. you have to learn is just stupid, and I never use the word "stupid." So I'd like to take a moment to thank the nitwits responsible for the videos which they posted publicly for the FAA to see which only added fuel to this completely ridiculous fire. Thanks for creating once again, trouble for the normal people in the world who simply wanted to enjoy flying a drone like a normal person.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I totally get where you're coming from. The amount of information required for the FAA Part 107 test can definitely feel excessive, especially when a lot of it doesn't seem relevant to actual flying. But, if you want to fly commercially, there's no getting around it-you need that license. I've had several jobs where I had to show my license to get a permit to fly, and having it does give you an edge over those who don't. So while the test can be frustrating, it's a worthwhile step if you're looking to make money with your drone.
@MeridianMedia So I got my Tascam DR-10L Pro (from Thomann --> A german retailer) today. To get the Izotope RX 10 Elements, I had to first scan the QR code on the included leaflet which was in the box of the device. That got me to Tascams website, where I had to set up an account, register the device. After registration, I have received a mail which contained a URL link to Izotopes website and a serial number. There I had to set up another account, download the software, enter the serial number I have gotten via E-Mail from Tascam and that's it.
*Brilliant work* . So Crisp Easy and to the Point , *extremely easy for the beginners*. yet very Creative* (the experiment part).
Thank you so much!
Hey everyone! Tascam just dropped the price on the DR-10L Pro by $50 USD, so it currently costs $149.00. At this price point, I do think the value proposition is a lot stronger and certainly worth paying an extra $24 over the original DR-10L.
so did you upgraded?
@@cosmonaut1961 Yes! I needed a third lavalier microphone for weddings and while I don't see myself using the bluetooth functionality I think having 32 bit float and extra battery life is worth the extra $24 dollars.
@@MeridianMedia thank you! In what scenario would you use the 3rd lav? Do you mic brides? So it would be groom, bride and officiant? (I film weddings too 👍)
@@cosmonaut1961 You got it! We usually try to mic the bride, but it depends on the dress and how easy it is to conceal the lav. For that we use the original DR-10L (white version). Then for the other two mics we are usually laving the groom and the officiant.
@@MeridianMedia thanks!
Hope you fixed your divet. 😊
Do you often mount the x8 to your camera? Do you experience any handling noise if the camera isn't on a tripod (handheld or on a gimbal)? Thanks
Hi there! Thanks for your question. I don't typically mount the Tascam Portacapture X8 to my camera often, but I did use this setup for a project in New York where capturing high-quality location sound was important. Mounting the X8 on the camera allowed me to capture a highly spatialized stereo mix, which was fantastic. To help with syncing in post, I usually clap in front of the camera. Regarding handling noise, you will experience it if you're just handholding the X8. However, if it's mounted on the camera or if you're using a holder, you can avoid handling noise. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
@@MeridianMedia Thank you for the quick reply! I'm researching the best way to record clear stereo ambient sound for video when a camera is mounted on a gimbal. The simplest solution is the Sennheiser MKE 440, but the preamps on the camera (Sony A7siii) aren't amazing. The X8 might capture a cleaner sound (and in 32bit), but I'm not sure if the sound quality improvement is substantial enough to justify dealing with handling noise and the added bulk. I'm also considering connecting a 440 to a small 32-bit recorder like the Zoom F2. Do you have any experience with the 440, or have you tried comparable solutions at that x8 budget?
@@GuyCassidy Hi again! I haven't used the Sennheiser MKE 440, but I have experience with the MKE 600, which is an excellent mic. The MKE 600 captures high-quality mono sound, which can be ideal for certain situations, but for ambient stereo sound, you might want to explore other options. Given your setup with the Sony A7siii on a gimbal, the Tascam Portacapture X8 could indeed provide cleaner audio with its 32-bit float recording, though handling noise and bulk are valid concerns. To mitigate handling noise, you could use shock mounts and holders designed for such setups. Additionally, if you're looking for alternatives within the X8 budget, the Zoom H5 or H6 could be worth exploring. Both offer excellent preamps and the flexibility of interchangeable mic capsules, allowing you to tailor your setup to different recording environments. I hope this helps!
nice
These all stock effects right?
Just what i was lookin for
this just exports a single clip when I do it
Lots of reverb. Sound blankets or a pencil condenser mic with a cardioid pattern?
Hello very useful info, thanks! Can we power tascam from V Mount Battery, and if yes, which cable do you recommend?
Hi there! Thanks for your comment, glad you found the info useful! Yes, you can definitely power the Tascam Portacapture X8 using a V Mount battery. Most V Mount batteries come with a USB-C output, which works perfectly for this purpose. I recommend checking out the Smallrig Mini V-Mount as it’s compact and reliable. Happy recording!
Best explanation yet
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching
Hi I would like to ask how to make it seamless loop on this effect
Excellent video, it would be great to see more videos about camera stuff. Thanks!
You got it!
Very useful video! Thank you! Which ND filters you would recommend to have? Currently I guess I'll need ND 8 and ND 64. I shoot mostly photo, sometimes video.
Thank you for your kind words! I recommend the K&F Concept 82mm Variable ND2-ND400 ND Lens Filter (1-9 Stops). It's versatile and works great for both photo and video, allowing you to adjust the density without needing multiple filters. I use it with my R6 Mark II, and it has been very reliable. You can find a link to it in the description of this video. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
Why does this not work for me? I've done it precisely as shown and ... nothing. Inversing more has the effect of just turning it entire off or entirely on, but the black/white mask .png import seems to have no impact when used as the luma key track at all.
Also, I appreciate my home state of maine being a subject in this
Okay I see it... it's way off screen because (I assume) it's tracking... what I need is a mask that's permanently in one specific place no matter what the masked video's placement is... the footage is highly variable and I need to be able to center the subject in the masked area.
@@Valjurai Thank you for your comments! I'm glad to hear you caught the nod to Maine-I always enjoy incorporating elements from viewers' home states! Regarding your latest observation about the mask moving off screen, it sounds like you might benefit from using a fixed position mask. Here’s what you can do: Create a Fixed Mask: Instead of using a track matte that moves with your video, create a mask that stays static throughout your clip. You can do this directly in Premiere Pro using the ‘Effect Controls’ panel: • Apply the ‘Opacity’ effect to your clip. • Use the ‘Ellipse’ or ‘Rectangle’ tool to draw a mask around the area you want to keep visible. • Ensure the mask is set to stay in one place by unchecking any keyframes that might cause it to move. These steps should help you create a stable masked area for your variable footage. If there's anything else you need, just let me know!
Alas, @@MeridianMedia, it's a no go. There are no keyframes; I just get media off an SD card in the midst of a hectic conference and the speaker is never in the same place twice, so I have to drag the media x,y around to recenter them... and it keeps dragging the box mask with it, which is driving me absolutely insane. I can't find anything to uncheck to prevent it. I just need a box in the lower corner that defines the mask, completely unlinked from the thing it's masking
wow. wow. wow. i thought this was unreachable information for me. you simplified it so extremely much.
You are quite welcome! Thanks for watching and good luck on the test!
Great explanation! one additional question: how could we render individual clips if there is an adjustment layer applied along all the clips?
Great question! To my knowledge, you can't use adjustment layers with the Render and Replace technique directly. Instead, you have to copy the properties from the adjustment layer and paste them onto each individual clip. I hope this helps!
@@MeridianMedia Yes eventually that’s exactly what I did. Thanks for your answer still!
Great video. Like the others I watched other videos and it was still confusing. Way to simplify it!!!
That's great to hear. Thanks Doug!
Wow, this helped so much! I got several of these questions on my exam!
