I know this is supposed to be a spiritual successor and not an actual suikoden entry but the magic was one of the worst elements about combat. The sound effects department dropped the ball on this one, the audio never felt like anything hit hard. Watch this then watch a video of runes being used in suikoden 1 or 2 and you'll see what I mean. Oh and the balancing for healing and damage were pretty shot as well.
So the gist Fire is pretty much Offense, Water is mostly Healing, Wind is versatile, Earth is Defense, Light focuses on all and is more defense than offense, while Darkness works in reverse.
