In the US Navy during the mid '60s, the first time I saw an LST was walking around the base in San Diego, fresh out of bootcamp, looking at all the ships. My reaction was that an LST was the last ship I would want to get assigned to. After "A" school when I received my orders to report aboard an LST in Saigon, I thought God had forsaken me. Although living and working conditions were HELLISH, the port to port and beaching operations all over the far east in both the blue and brown water navy was an adventure of a lifetime I wouldn't trade for anything...I was able to visit LST325 about 10 years ago with my late, best childhood buddy and show him the whole ship, going aboard I totally choked up...
