    My real question is if you have a 510 why do you need this. Don't get me wrong I see the need for more than one SS as I have one on a wall permanent a 500 then another 500 I use with the belt and disk sander most days but also use it as my lathe most the time. Then My 510 that has the jointer and spends 90% of its life as a tablesaw. I am in the look for a second 510 table and plan on putting another carriage on my 510 but use a 500 carriage and table post & I am going to use linear rails to modify and mount my secondhand 510 table and have a really Badass sliding table saw with double main table size. Then an extension pole could lock the tables together to prevent sliding. Unlike a tail table both would go up and down with a hand crank too and could be set at the same angle. I have had the Idea for a bit but I need to find a good second 510 table. Maybe just pick up a entire machine on market place next time I find one around 500. Use the table to make my system and chop down the new SS to a shorty and make a sanding station with the belt sander and strip sander. I do also have a powerstation. But the one-car garage is getting a bit full. Lol Plus all the welding equipment and SS free stand planner too. I love ShopSmith I was raised on a 500 my dad got it when I was 4. That was 45 years ago. I also made a bad ass router attachment that uses a 500 table and carriage that hangs in place of the tail table. It holds a 2.5 hp router that basically is mounted to the extra caraige that the 500 table comes down over the router. The carriage is not on the way tubes it instead sets into the tail stock and places the end table. This looks well made not knocking it just if you have a 510 they are so damn nice for a table saw compared to the 500.

    I do like. I guess sometime here in the next month I might shoot a small video of how my homemade shopsmith router table works. Like I was telling you it uses the shopsmith main table. I have been wanting to show Scott at my growth rings too. I also made the same attachment for my fence.

  • @jvmiller1995
    @jvmiller1995 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was going to do the same thing to one of my3, but one of the problems I have with the ShopSmith overhead router still comes into play, and that is it is way under speed compared to most routers. So Instead since I already have a 3 hp plunge router I went different in a way you might like better. I purchased a extra table and carriage for a shopsmith mark 5 on Ebay for around 30 bucks shipped. I took a extra tailstock and removed the legs. I put the tail stock legs in my shopsmith at the end table spot and I welded some 1/4 in x 2 plate on each one perpendicular to the tube where they are parallel to the way tubes but stick off the end. It is hard to describe in detail but I basically bolted the extra carriage to tjose plates so it hangs off the end out into the air. Then made a wooden mount screwed down to the top of the carriages that holds my router just over it sticking up so the blade is centered in the table insert. My router is a hitachi and is one of the round ones that go in a plunge base or fixed base. It is about 3 in dia and it sets in a little frame I made out of 2x stock and is clamped in with carriage bolts and large hand nuts. So basically I take down my end table and set this carriage router combo off the end and then drop a main table down over. The table height adjust the exact same but the bonus too is nothing is taller than the table so no way tubes sticking up.. It works just like the speed increaser as far as setting up and using the tables. Except it is not underpowered and will handle any size cutter you want to run. Then I bought a 1/2 in shaper shat to go into it for 16 bucks on amazon. The speed increaser is one tool everyone should avoid. I love and even bleed ShopSmith but it was not well made and it is very prone to failure. Leave it to shopsmith owners we always find a work around. Lol

    • @cyclesurgeon
      @cyclesurgeon ปีที่แล้ว

      You only have two ends of a SS. A lock end and a tilt end. You have to use two tilt ends to make this work. Two lock ends would make the entire headstock/way tube assembly removeable but wouldn't let it tilt.

I then drilled a 3/8" hole between my bottom platten and the piece of base stock glued onto the bottom.
