'first born' ftw. Always wanted to do Blood ravens, I might yet. Assault on black reach captain, I still have mine, but he's in poor shape. I mind the packs of one bikers, not sure if it was a good idea but it was usually the cheapest thing on the shelf besides the pack of 3 mono-posed marines

Thanks for showing this! My Space Marine army is also a mishmash of older models and Leviathan models. I do field the Ballistus Dreadnought right next to my old metal boxnaught, the size difference is pretty funny.

I remember my first major battle in 90s I have 5 marines, Las cannon and someone lend me a razorback. We on a 8x36 board. Imperial vs Chaos with nids on the very end. Nid won. I was last imperial player when nids got at the other end of the board 😂

So I am watching and there are a few things you have missed. This is not to troll but to let you know how the rules worked then. Firstly, AP - armour piercing. In Ed 3 if your AP exceeded the armour value of the target there was no save otherwise the save applied. Invulnerable save - you either chose your armour save or your invulnerable save you did not get both. The reason invulnerable saves were important is that if AP nullified your armour, your . . . invulnerable save remained functional. For Warlocks, Spiritseers and Farseers all would use their invulnerable save because it was equal to their armour save. Other units like the Dire . . ... .... Avengers had a better armour save which is what you would role for unless it was beaten by AP. There was another save which was rolled if you failed your regular save, but it was usually a 5 . or 6 you needed to roll. With regards to the Farseer singing spear, it had an AP of 2 which pretty much defeated all armour. So the head honcho SM would need to rely on its invulnerable save every time. The Dire Avengers used an up powered Avenger Catapult, and I am not sure if this was for 3rd Ed or 4th, but if you rolled a 6 to wound the Catapult incurred an AP value of 2, negating the SM. . save Wraith Lord was rocking an Eldar missile launcher not a Bright Lance. Also you were not allowed to count as two weapons, it was limited to the shots it was allowed in the rules. So your. . . ... bright lance would have had only one shot. Finally, in 3rd Ed, a unit being Charged could fire Over Watch. Defensive fire in response to a charge but hits were only counted on a roll of 6. Unless you were using a flamer type weapon. ......which basically could not miss. As for tactics; I would have piled the Wraith Lord into the SM HQ dude to support the Farseer. Double your attacks and no shooting from the tank. I am not sure if the Farseer was allowed to use his warp powers in combat but I think he was. But anyway the Farseer usually had three warp powers and Guide and Doom would have helped ruin your enemies shooting while giving your own troops a better chance with re-rolls. Alternately I would have fired the Bright Lance into the SM infantry. With AP2 there would be no armour save for a successful hit and wounds would have been on 2 because double strength over toughness. Lastly, never roll the Eldar dice with the Mon-ke dice. The Mon-ke clearly tainted the Eldar dice and caused such pitiful rolls. Everyone knows this. The same reason you don't call Ork rokkit launchers missile launchers. Just saying.

Yup. You’re going to be searching a bit but those techmarines are definitely around. Horus Heresy techmarines will also work.

I’m ready for a Dreadnought sarcophagus-but I still remember moving from 2nd edition 40k to 3rd….. good stuff. I’m partial to 4th but 3rd was lots of fun.

I miss generations. It was my introduction to the series.

Third edtion was and still is amazing the art alone hooked me and my friend big time!! even more so third edition I got some of the older books again plus a couple I didnt have a couple of years ago and wow the amount of flexablity in them I totally forgot about (we were kids after all) so much depth to everything how to easily make your own heroes and units, kitbash ideas and again REAL!! Grimdark art and lore. Today the art looks great but it doesnt have that dirt and grime over it and the last couple of years there has been to much of a shine to things and less bleak.

The dark eldar seem to be getting their pointy asses handed to them quite a lot. Maybe a raider would help? Can you shoot from open-topped vehicles in 3rd?

keep forgetting that you dont roll to charge in 3rd. Also, in any game that uses points when dark eldar kill a model they roll a dice and on a 4+ they "capture it" and get a point, probably would not make a difference though.

Awesome battle. Been following for a while and has inspired me to venture back in time to 3rd (the edition I started with) such a breath of fresh air compared to the complexities of modern 40K. And I love the super customisation of 3rd. Keep these batreps coming

What about the Melee case where the enemy Fall Back and the Advance roll is the same. This would mean the enemy is not destroyed, but you end still in base to base contact.

I’m liking this 3rd edition you do. I’m currently trying to get 8th edition going. And I like the smaller points range you around the 400 range. When I get 8th edition going hopefully my games will be as good as these you do.

so did you forget about the instant death rule or just decided not to use it? Also i thought charging in 3rd was a flat 6 inches, not the classic 2d6

While 3rd is great, what I would recommend is using the 4th ed big book with all the 3rd ed codices. 4th is basically 3rd, with all the changes and errata from white dwarf and the chapter approved compilations baked in. Its the 3rd ed experience 95% but made really smooth and enjoyable!
