BL ....and then Rover had made crap parts bin cars for far to long . They sadly never kept up with other marks . To buy British ive had a marina , allegro and a mgf ....all crap compared to foreign cars of the same era

We sold an iconic British sports car marque to the Chinese for absolute peanuts, everything, all the remaining already built cars, the parts, the tooling, the whole production line machines, the brand the lot, gone, lost! William Morris and Cecil Kimber would be turning in their graves if they knew what had happened to their company they built up at Morris Garages!

I am in complete agreement with you, I just meant losing MG was absolute bollocks because we don’t seem to have many British made car brands left standing, without china wafting large amounts of cash under corporate noses and further reducing the number. @@stevedodds1826 No worries! Most of the car production in the UK is now owned by other countries! I'm struggling to think of a single British owned car manufacturer, Morgan? Even Rolls Royce car division was sold off to BMW!!😯🤔
@austinrover2005 Well you illustrate my point, I was struggling to think of a single British car manufacturer, not owned by an overseas company. Off the top if my head without any research I wrongly assumed Morgan, another iconic British marque was still wholly British run and owned! In fairness, it has only recently been acquired by an Italian investment company, so still has it's roots firmly embedded in Britain, run and partly owned by it's British work force and I believe the Morgan family still have a stake in the company, so all is not lost. It is still quintessentially British! 😁😯😎👍😷
This makes me sad. The level of production was not needed for this MG SV. product, they already had the ZT chassis and he got it to do 200+ mph. This car could have and should have been a ZT chassis track looking car for the road with a smaller price tag. Carbon fibre additions could have been dealt with by aftermarket companies for those that want a Track SV.

The parts manufacture and assembly transport logistics were madness 1400 kgs was actually heavy it was not pretty to look at amalgam of pressed steel and CF odd and awkward much inherited from the Mangusta none of it a good idea from the start and a huge price at the time.

Why heavy? A Mazda MX5 is 1200Kgr and it has a 4 cylinder engine. Also this is technically a 4 seat car (sort of) without back seats i.e it is physically bigger. A modern 911 is 1500+ Kgr again depending on the engine almost 20 years later.
My Delta integrale is 1400kg... sv is a much bigger car physically and engine is a v8 as opposed to my 4 cylinder..... I worked for SP on the development for SV... as drove a couple of finished cars.. I agree it was too expensive and build quality wasnt good enough for a 75k car... you could buy a 911 for same money..... but I dont think you could say it was heavy considering its size and spec.
Dare I mention the TVRs of the time had similar power but only weight at tonne and cost half the price?
Oh man...the Mangusta was a proper pig...the SV might not have been where it was at but it was much closer than the base car!
