Sleigh Ride Horse Whinny by Charles Daval
มุมมอง 65K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Professor Charles Daval from the University of Illinois shares his experience as former Principal Trumpet of the Boston Pops Orchestra, and provides a few tips to improve a trumpet horse whinny: - Only half-valve the 3rd valve! If you do all 3, it's too soft! - Stick your left index finger under the 3rd valve cap to lock it in place while you shake. - Shoot for a high C and blow REALLY HARD! Yo...
That was really good.
💘👏🏼 beautiful!! thank you✨
I play cello but this is very interesting. I don't know why I'm here.
Thanks for this video! I'm the only 1st trumpet in my band, so I get to do this for my Christmas Concert.
Well done sir. I have mastered this long ago and I am glad to know after 63 years of playing I was doing it right ( just by luck I guess ) . Especially the start high, then the shake and keep pushing through ! Merry Christmas Mr Daval and healthy and happy to all you hold dear . Thank you.
It's like this video is ment for me
One of my favorite horse whinny tutorials so far
How do I do the shake
It'll be with your hands.
The thin health distally repeat because nickel numerically murder anenst a sulky suit. wrong, melodic wax
Nice track - very peaceful and interesting progression
Thank you!
I really like this Willie boy. I especially love that cello!

Thanks Prof. Very informative.
For my band, the horse whiney is a solo... and I have it. Pray for me, but this was helpful, thank you!
How’s it going?
How did you do?

Im going on tonight playing it, wish me luck boys
I always thought it was a trombone sound. I can’t imagine doing it on a trumpet
As a trombone player the trombone is way to low to do that lol
@@WHOOOSHXDOfficial to play it on a trombone, you need a piccolo trombone!
No it’s flute or sax
That'll work Charles. The only exception I've found is to use half valves on both 1 and 3. Here's why this is cool. A. The 1 & 3 combination easily plays the Concert high A pitch. Either fully depressed or some combination of half or 1/3rd pressed down. It's a virtually bullet proof setting. I ike to do as you say BLOW LIKE HELL!. Perhaps we jazz and R & B playing cats are more dialed in to half valve trips. In fact I'm sure of it.
I know, it's so difficult to get the glissando smooth
Bro check my comment it really helped me
I’m playing sleigh ride in my band, except I’m the only trumpet in the band. Which means I’m the only one doing the horse whinney, and I’m doing it in front of everyone I know
LMAO
ouch...
Kid here is the only trumpet in his band, and at my school, we have 5 different bands, and in the entire school we have around 40 trumpets
I'm not trying to brag, I'm just saying it's really sad your the only trumpet
@@SkySpyro615 bro i’m the only trumpet in my band class hahaha. It honestly not as sad as you might think
I have to play the whinny on trombone so I take out my tuning slide to get the right effect
I’m playing this in string orchestra I’m playing the horse Whinney on violin... Anyone?
41 years of playing the trumpet and this is the first year I have had to play sleigh ride. Thanks for the tip.
Yay... this is me this year. Am I the only one who does vibrato in their throat? Or does anyone eaven do vibrato. Wow this is me this year. Yay. Really helped a lot and I will be sure to try it. Lol thx so much

Hi Charley. You sound great as always. Don't forget to remove the rubber thing that got lodged in your trpt. On second thought, that would probably improve a Bach or Bach clone haha....
Great video! Thanks for posting.
On BBC tpt, I always preferred the 1st valve for this and half valve effects in general. Thoughts?
Bb not BBC... Damn spellcheck
Wtf do u type bbc a lot?
