Change Presser Foot Lift On Rex 607z Sewing Machine

Simple trick to get more room under the presser foot. Edit: I'm not sure I stressed this enough in the video, but the magnets MUST be rare earth magnets. Regular magnets will not work. You can get them here: www.amazon.com/DIYMAG-Neodymium-Magnets-Double-Sided-Adhesive/dp/B07B6PS8XV/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=neodymium magnet - 60 x 10 x 3mm&qid=1622116130&s=industrial&sr=1-11

    Can you please tell me where you purchased that wooden base? I purchased a metal one that doesn’t quite fit well. The hinge screw on right side doesn’t go all the way in. I appreciate you so much!

      This didn’t work for me. The Rex settings are nothing like the Sailrite and now it’s gonna take forever to get it back the way it was. If I get the lift where I want it nothing else is right. If you have tried this on an actual Rex 607z please let me know

    • @stitchbiatch3715

      Bonjour, les points sautés sont généralement causés par la façon dont l’aiguille est orientée. La rainure de l’aiguille doit être exactement à 90 à droite. S’il est tourné un peu vers l’avant ou vers l’arrière, les mailles sauteront.

      @Stitch Biatch I've tried to add a link here but it keeps disappearing for some reason. The video is called "Complete Guide to Setting the Feet Height & Range." It is not listed/searchable on TH-cam but you can find it through a Google search. The adjustment only takes a few minutes and it made a huge difference on my Consew version of this machine.

      Make sure the clutch (the small wheel in the center of the handwheel) is super tight. Then sink the needle by turning the handwheel manually. Then try to help it along for the first few stitches. It should take off on its own after that. I'll try to post a video of sewing binding soon.

    Just use proper setup and adjust walking foot and Presser foot, Don't risk damaging your machine by bending lift mechanism! Sailrite has great video on setting up machine correctly. Foot height, thread and bobbin tension, proper oiling and maintenance. proper needle tread combinations. Machines are the same, Good luck

    Your foot lift tutorial was really helpful for some thick work I had to do on my 607z. Just curious ...is that still working out for you. Have you kept it installed? I just ordered a Monster Balance Wheel from Goldstar Tool. They have a sale on right now so it seems like a really good deal. There's even a coupon code for another 5% bringing it down to $95.00 US. Its arriving in a few days and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

I see Salirite sells left and right welting feet but I'm in Canada and to get both would be over $120 Cdn landed. Searched AliExpress etc., and couldn'i find any elsewhere. Hoping to learn a 'technique' that would work better.

    • @jjaylad
      @jjaylad ปีที่แล้ว

      You use the foot pedal just like the gas pedal on a car. When starting a row of stitches, lightly turn the handwheel toward yourself, while very lightly depressing the foot pedal. After the stitching starts, depress the foot pedal to get whatever speed you want. Reduce foot pressure to slow down or stop. Use your right hand on the handwheel like a brake for more control at slow speeds. I usually do one backstitch and one more forward stitch at the end of the stitching.

    I haven't tried this yet, but will after I get off the computer. I stumbled on this video, and been dealing with this issue, but never found a solution. Thanks for posting. BTW, I don't know if they are the right size, but Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrushes have great rare earth magnets in them, so don't discard them when they get old without removing those magnets first. UPATE: I tried the magnet trick, using a rare earth magnet, but after examining it I thought of a better way, by just bending the arm. To remove the arm I removed the one screw that holds it on. I then used a vise to hold it and slightly bent the arm. I did that a few times until I got the height I was looking for (about 1/2"). So far works great.

  • @jjaylad
    @jjaylad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Update. I found the problem I had was that the magnet would stick to the part above that shelf and stay there for a second, then turn sideways, creating way too much of a space. That is what caused the foot lift lever to be popping up and down as well as the erratic stitch lengths. I cut a slice of 5/8" threaded rod to create the same thickness as the magnet, and crazy glued it onto that shelf instead of using the magnet. So far so good. I'll report again after I've tried a real project with the machine.

    • @stitchbiatch3715
      @stitchbiatch3715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you sure you're using rare earth magnets? I didn't have this problem at all; I have tried super glue and metal but it came undone after about the third usage of the machine.

    • @jjaylad
      @jjaylad 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stitchbiatch3715 my magnets aren't rar earth...just refrigerator magnets but good ones that are hard to move. The crazy glue worked ok for 5 minutes then let go. Trying magnets again but the upper plate they push against is also metal and the magnets stick to it just as much as they do to the one they are on. Can't see how rare earth can adhere to one and not the other. I wonder if the square edge on yours is giving it purchase on the vertical part of that ledge too. Coud that give it more attraction to the lower ledge than the upper?

    Hi again. I tried this and can't seem to get it to work on my machine (which is exactly the same as yours). What happens is that the pressure foot is hesitant to go down. I have to make a stitch b4 it releases and goes down. Then, when stitching, the lift lever is jumping up and down and the stitch length varies and soon pinches down to extremely short. It seems the foot goes backwards b4 going forward. I remove the magnets and it works OK again. I tried it with just one magnet as well and same thing happens, just not as bad. Could I be doing something wrong?
