    I just bought some tubes from Pyrodirect and I noticed a few had the plugs in crooked. I started looking at them up to a light and I can see light coming through the edges around the plug meaning these things aren't fully plugged. Is this normal? Seems like it could be a problem if the lift charge can escape out the bottom of the plugs???

    • @maniello3
      @maniello3 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ideally you don’t want any gap for charge to escape. It will effect the lift height. I have tried contact cement or liquid nails to fill gaps but it’s normally not a permanent fix.

    • @bigmacfullerton7870
      @bigmacfullerton7870 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maniello3 Thanks for your reply. So it sounds like you have been down this road before? Is this normal when buying tubes or did I just get bad ones?

    • @maniello3

      @@maniello3 Pyrodirect ended up sending me all new tubes and these are properly plugged. I popped some of the plugs out the bad tubes and the plugs were cut to small. They easily just slipped in and out of the tube. Weird. Anyway they made it right

      I called the Knoxville, TN office today and they referred me to the branch in Charlotte, NC. I called them (704-264-3904), and they have 40' sticks on the yard. The guy said the pick up price would be $1.20 per foot. You would, of course, probably need to cut it down to haul it.

  • @maniello3
    @maniello3 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you buy a hole saw kit, it comes with 2 different size bits/holders for the hole saw. You have to pull out the guide bit so you avoid making that hole. You could probably do it with a vise grip to hold the wood while you drill, but the press makes it super easy.

  • @jackgreen7273
    @jackgreen7273 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the vid Amer Mike, I was wondering how did you mount the hole saw to the bench press? Most people put a hole in the plug.

  • @zaneyone1
    @zaneyone1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    That works great when you actually have a belt sander to smooth out the ends of the caps to install into the tubes.

    • @maniello3
      @maniello3 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is very true. You could still get a fairly close result with a hand orbital sander with high grit paper. You could pick up a cheap vise to hold the plug.

    Thank you for the vid! I'm in Orlando and I can't find HDPE pipe anywhere. I am interested in making at least one or two mortar racks for shells like they sell at Phantom and Sky King.
