Data: What is it and why is it so important?
This is AMAZING! I'm fascinated by the good explanation in this video. All the steps can be done easily! Thank you very much!
You are welcome 🙏 Glad I was able to help.
When i select a value, all other values disappear other than all. To select something else I have to click All and then go back and select something else and do this all over again. Any way to fix this issue ?
Can you have an aggregated view by month? So that columns are, for example, Oct 2024, Nov 2024, Dec 2024 with the values that are corresponding?
Really helpfull
Thanks 🙏
It baffles me how it's impossible to scroll timeline by default in app like Tableau which entire purpose is to look at the data
Thank you!
You are welcome! Glad you found it helpful.
Hello, what shall I do if I dont want to use any dimension in the drop down, Instead I want to use names of the dashboard to which I want to navigate. How shall I proceed with it
th-cam.com/video/I8Z1YmEJeww/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iURtabQ3nyGe92zy
Thank you for the tutorial. Is it possible to make an open search in the filter (e.g. *car). I could not find it out. Thanks in advance
Thank you so much. You made my job very easy.
You are welcome :-) Always happy to help . Please share it with wider community so others can benefit from it too
Is this used in business? to uncover insights?
It depends on the use case and the dataset. If you dataset is more then millions rows then i wouldnt recommend it as it will be really slow in computing data point. However if you have small dataset then feel free to use it.
Thank you for the tutorial. I finally get to plot the visual I am looking for. However for the X axis, my project will span over years and I wish to plot monthly (but displaying years as well). Is it possible on Tableau? How can I do it? Also how can I add a reference line of today () ?
Yes it’s possible! You can use the date hierarchy on the X-axis ( format the x axis to show date as month year) and set up the reference line for today based on the new calculated date field set to current date.
@@DataVizCanvas Thank you for getting back to me. How can I format the X-axis while using the calculated field "X axis"?
After plotting X and Y ,Once I change compute to month in my dataset, and convert mark to line ,I am only able to see the up and down lines not the circular shape in between , Can you please let me know how to solve this issue
Could you please share the twbx file and i can have a look. Seems like the path field is not working as expected..
Hi ad. thanks for sharing this. I want to know, Does tableau's vituarl connection manage access rights of users logged in to each dashboard? For example, in a revenue report by each branch, user A of branch 1 only views data of branch 1.
Yes that’s correct. You can set security at branch level or at user level or combination of both. In order to do that you have to set policy at data source level.
Thanks for sharing. In my case, i have both Measure Name & Measure value and trying to create Cal Fields but Funnel i could create but coloring based on each individual field, not happening. Any help will be much appreciated.
Please provide more details on the steps you have followed and would appreciate if you could share the twbx file. It will help in investigating the issue.
Thank you. Very nicely explained. Liked the video.
Thanks you for supporting my channel 🙂
How can we get totals for the measures on the top
Great Question.. That feature is not available as of now. Hopefully tableau will introduce it soon.
pls can you send link of creation of Sankey chart
Please use below link to create Sankey chart using extension th-cam.com/video/fV8OEfI_kxA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Jo_-rjQMbvooQOks
Where do I find the drop down arrows?
I normally use below site for all shapes but there are lots of other sites available on internet too. jrgraphix.net/r/Unicode/2600-26FF
Can we type filter value manually because minimum and maximum values are not visible.
Type in filter feature is only availabe for dimensions. Its not available for measure values. You can change measure values using slider as of now. May be in future tableau will release that functionality.
How do I add labels? Label is greyed out
Thank you for the tutorial. Can you create for tree diagram too?
Thank you for the brief and well explained tutorial. Please can you create videos for other viz extentions especially the tree diagram?
Great suggestion! I will try.
Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. Glad you liked it.
Is this vis extension created and managed by you?
@@MN-gi4xy no , it’s created by tableau. There are more extensions that are created by third party companies and some by tableau community members in collaboration with tableau.
I have a doubt Suppose I have created a field where I have to find the current quarter sales that is 2024 Q2 and previous quarter sales 2023 Q2 and then find the % change. For current quarter sales, I have hardcoded the year as 2024 but for quarter I have created a parameter that is select quarter and put that parameter in calculation to make it dynamic . And I did the same for 2023. Then I have created another calculated field to find the % change between them. Now I want to add indicators for downward and upward sign according to % change for Q1, Q2 and so on which is controlled by me. How can I add kpi red/ green indicators to them
Thats a great question. You could create a dynamic calculated field that gives the percentage difference between select quarter and selected quarter -1 based on your parameter selection. Please try that and let me know in case of any issues.
Great video, thanks a lot, I am currently cooking my personal web site and just found your video, I have a question, do you know which one of the two method is the best to embed a tableau dashboard?
Thanks for checking out the video! Both methods have their pros and cons, but I'd recommend the method that best fits your website's needs. With sometime authentications can get complicated but if you are using tableau public then you could use any... it will work fine
Very useful & clearly explain, thank you so much
You are welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Legend
Thanks.
@DataVizCanvas additionally here how can I show data displaying only for latest 5 quarters. Because when I am trying to filter out the complete dataset is changing because of order of filter operations
Thanks You Sir
You are welcome 🙏
Can we write custom sql in virtual connection. Once virtual connection is created and we access it from desktop , I dont see any place to write custom sql
Unfortunately there is no option to write custom SQL with data source connecting to virtual connections. You might need to create a seperate object in virtual connection or create a view in database.
Thank you ! For the first method using the shapes feature, if the data currently shows only positive year-over-year trends, how can we dynamically adjust those shapes in the event of potential negative growth in future data refreshes? I am working with a single KPI on the dashboard.
Thats a great question. You have to manually create a negative value in the calculated field to change the shape. Otherwise it will randomly show the shape once that scenario occurs.
Hi Sir, in the video u sow how to use virtual connection based on full name coz ur sample show one manager handle one region, how about if I want to use based on group name coz in my case one manager not only handle one region but more (it is mean that one user can be in more one metrics group). So let say Joni is manager in Region 1 & 2. So it means that Joni can see data from region 1 & 2.
That’s a great question. Yes if you set up row level security based on user name then that user can see all the data linked to it. In your example you can create local user group based and use that in the policy. That way you can manage users in policy by just adding them in the local group. Please try that and let me know in case of any issues.
What of we want to show in day level which changes dynamically and see proper date values? And also the region values are in different columns each for central, west etc?? Is it possible then?
Hi @datavizcanvas I have a dataset where I want to display the count of approved quotes over time while I showed it. It's showing the 0,1,2 for each date . That's correct while I need to see some change in height or length of the bars over there.
You have to update the table calculation compute for the x and y axis value to get the bar height to work properly. Please see the video again at 12:50 min to see how the compute is done for sales ..Hope that helps
Is there a way to do this when using a custom sql query as the data source? I can't union sql queries so this becomes impossible
You can write the join directly in the custom query or export your custom query into csv and then create a new data source and do the union. or run the query as stored procedure to save it in view or table and then use that instead. Hope that helps.
Please slove this one question Who are 25th, 50th and 100th customers from top with respect to sum of sales in 2021?
Thanks for your feedback. I will try to address this in my future tutorials.
Good work, thank you for the video
You are welcome. Glad you find it useful. 🙂
Hi Gurpreet, thanks for sharing this. It was really helpful. I have a follow up question: Let' say I have a 1. Actual sales data (how much sales did a seller achieve) 2. Sales Target data (how much sales was the seller targeting to achieve) 3. Seller attributes (seller name, region etc.). With these data sets I need to combine seller name, seller target sales and seller actual sales and ensure that seller can only see their own data. How can I do achieve this tableau virtual connection on Tableau Server Version: 2024.2.0? I'm basically trying to understand how can I join two tables (Actual sales data, Sales Target data) and apply rls (using Seller attributes data) simultaneously. Thanks again!
Thats a great question. Once you have applied row level security on the primary fact table and then join it with secondary table, it will only retrieve related rows from secondary table. Example: Table one is sales with row level security applied on Region (Central) Table two is returned orders and is joined with Table one on Order ID field.. Once the join is created in the workbook then it will only show all the sales made in Central region and corresponding returned items. Hope that helps.. Please feel free to reach out if you need more info.

I followed the same approach but my hierarchical tree needs to connect nodes in level 3 with nodes in level 1 for example, without any direct links to a node in level 2. However, when doing this in tableau, its causing some issues and placing the level 3 node in level 2. How can I fix this?
Seems like an issue with the start and end node.. Could you please share the link of the dashboard and i can have a look.
@@DataVizCanvas Thank you! My specific data would be the following, I just centered it around zero per level. Maybe I am doing something wrong? docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1L9ocAdHvSaB3UFFTAzyY8hHzSzc3-Uu_/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=110348840310824771709&rtpof=true&sd=true
@@DataVizCanvas Many thanks for the help! It is not allowing me to comment a link, how should I send it to you?
Can you share how it would be possible to sort the categories not by Rank (of sales) but instead a manual sort - ie I can choose if furniture is at the top regardless of sales? Thanks for your help
Thats a great question. You could use the custom sort on the dimension value rather than sales. Please try and let me know incase you need more info.. Cheers!
is it possible to remove lines when we hover over any data points?
No , we cant . Its basically selecting that data point and showing the details in the hover over.
really nice tutorial. Do you happen to have the script on how to set up the start_node_id and the end_node_id?
No, I dont have the script for this scenario. I generated the data manually for this tutorial. You can download the data from my tableau public profile
Thank You very much !!!
You are welcome! Glad it was helpful !
this is good thanks a lot, however, if i just want to show the null value months only and other side where the sales were done, how that can be done ?
Try using Tableau relationship data model. That will help you to cover such scenarios. Please check my tutorial on Relationships th-cam.com/video/ElD8jbnLjaw/w-d-xo.html
