My sister has hifi audio gear, but only because I gave it to her. Now she can't listen to anything else without comparing it to her own. My brother is the same way. Even though he's really in to music, being a musician, he never had hifi gear until i gave it to him. I would say most people don't have hifi equipment because they don't know about it. Also, for the average joe-schmo, needing to buy an amp and dac, along with headphones with cords attached to them, is not convenient. It's a matter of convincing people that quality is more important than convenience.

Everything devolves into DEI Jason strikes me as a left of center fellow but his simple answer ROI Women getting into Hi Fi will only work if it is organic I am old and the cigarette industry got pretty good at marketing women’s cigarettes but only because the ladies liked to smoke too Love the stereotype idea from the ladies to make the Schiit components pretty in pink and colorful Every single component I own is black and the more industrial the better Fortunately we all have choices

To bad about the name. The mono amps would be great but just don't want that name in my rig. Think it has only been the first time not wanting to buy a product because of the name. All the best and keep building excellent products and great prices - we need more of these options.

Interestingly enough, I took a look at my own Schiit gear--a Hel, a Hel 2e, and a Syn--and the company name appears on none of them. It's just the logo and the product name.

The whole thing about women is insane. Stop trying to make a woman like your hobby. The women that do like your hobby, like your hobby. Do you think Schiit or whomever should be advertising in Elle Magazine, the Lifetime channel, and The View to lure in the women? I'm a ham radio operator and all we've talked about for the past 15 years or more was how to get women interested. Well, the ones that do like ham radio, like it. Every effort they've ever afforded fell flat on its face. The percentage of licensed ham radio operators who are female has stayed pretty constant through the years. Guys just like and want women to like their hobbies. The whole ham radio paradigm and HiFi paradigm are very close in perspective. My wife likes to drink wine and listen to music on the couch with me, but she could care less about the music or gear; she's spending time with me. Men and women are wired differently and that is just fine. Occasionally a woman likes HiFi and occasionally a guy likes crotchet!

It almost took me longer to read this comment than they spent talking about the subject in question. Like Leslie said, if Schiit can figure out the marketing, there's a huge untapped market. Hifi doesn't have to be gendered. Everybody has ears.

Treat the listener not the room . When room treatments are not an option because you LIVE in one room then learn to treat the listener . rooms have finite potential , but levels of consciousness have no limitations . learn how to increase sensitivity , joy and appreciation and ones external circumstance becomes irrelevant . The listener has infinite potential , a room does not.

I design my own speakers and I have a multiple layer cabinet system that I came up with and I don't know anyone who does anything like mine. The out layer I have been using solid oak and maple. The crossovers are high end components and crossover are all top notch. Big companies can't make a speaker like the way I do because it's not practical. But I spend a fraction of the price as buying a big name speaker made in China

The Dead really screwed me with the Wall Of Sound and I'm sure thousands of others......I saw and heard that thing and t was wayyyyyyyyyy more than a simple PA. It was a genuine phenomena. The thing was an instrument in itself and seemed to have a life of it's own.......Incredibly coherent and terrifying in scope at times.........I think they played for around 6 hours and it was epic. And they didn't publicize it so it was a shock to walk in the ballroom and see something like that............Still the best concert sound I've ever heard... So I jabbered about it to anyone that would listen because the Dead were still sort of an underground niche thing..........They disappeared for a couple years and then returned......I told everyone I knew and took my whole band to see them. They had a borrowed PA from Bill Graham, the sound was lackadaisical and they were playing that slowed down "poky-poky" shit that they got famous for later and it was just a lame show.................I felt like a fool and everyone was like "THIS is what you've been raving about??????!!!!" It was really embarassing and every show I bothered to go to after that just didn't have the fire, passion and otherworldly quality of the Wall Of Sound and I finally lost interest...... I think they screwed up BIGTIME mothballing that system...........It's just a legend now most people never got to hear.. You probably know Bear left them after a roadie threw him into a water cooler backstage.....He said while he was in the joint their scene changed and they had all these beer drinking , coke snorting cowboy types that tended to be aggressive at times.. And I agree with John Curl on Live/Dead............THAT is a genuine masterwork , fantastic improvisation, textures and invocations..........and beautiful relic of the Psychedelic era that is as much of an arcane text as anything these days,,,,,

Steve hit it on the nose, 10/10 when he said, "The review is only valuable when the viewer develops his relationship with the reviewer over time," so beutifully and simply said!!! That is, after listening to Steve's, Sean, Thabarma, Ron, John, Andrew, Thomas' Review, and you go out and buy those reviewed products and then gauge it for yourself. And if their descriptions matches what you've experienced, then the product review is valuable. And over time THAT REVIEWER is trusted and valued. That's absolutely true for me, and I believe also for many audiophiles. For me, in terms of hierarchy, top of my trustworthy and accurate list of reviewers is Sean, Steve, Thabarma, Thomas, Andrew and John. And it's a "relationship" we've develop over time. I value John's knowledge, but his products are usually out of my budget. Same can be said for Thomas, some of his products are in the Gate's, Buffet's and Bezo's level (exaggerated)! Steve's reviews are fresh, wide-ranging. Sean's is more focused and clear, so it really helps me to buy--or not.

Joule Electra made OTLS superior in sound quality. So sad the designer passed away not many know about him. Like Tesla, he was the true genius but Bell gets more recognition Jud Barber was the same Ralph gets more recognition but having owned both My Joule Electra Grand Marquis 160 mono OTL sounds better than my MA1. Really wish Jud was still around his amps just had that little bit more of humanity if you know what I mean that came through his amps. I baby mine because I know how special they are!! They still look new and have all their silk screening in place. I get frustrated when his name is not mentioned when people talk about OTLs the people who have heard them will tell you the same he made the best OTLs bar none. Ralph would probably even admit this lol.

Great talk on stylus set-up. I learned a lot. I use a mono conical stylus and a mild elliptical stereo stylus. My logic is that these shapes allow me to enjoy and safely play my recordings without being hyper careful about set up. If I were using fine line stylus shapes I would certainly take the time to “dial it in” correctly. An improperly set up fine line stylus could damage records.

Great talk - on the topic of utility power - In addition to the steps Michael discusses at 2:00; consider asking the power company to replace your old pole transformer (if you have one). Our utility company was happy to change our 25 year old service transformer for a new one at no cost to us. Also - if you have a home backup generator; your transfer switch may buzz and introduce noise into your power as it uses an electromagnetic switch system. Our Koehler transfer switch occasionally buzzes. I switch the whole house power on and off to exercise it and the buzz goes away.

50% of the US population has only 1% of the National wealth. With the loss of a middle class, audio will be for the rich. Wealth isn’t distributed relatively evenly across the US population as it was in the 1960s and 70s. Today’s manufacturers will target the wealthy with high priced products as that’s where the money is. The average American can swing an iPhone on an installment plan and that’s about it. It’s all about where the money is and isn’t.

I've tried or heard everything, over many years, and nothing worked anywhere near as well as the DBA built a couple years ago based on Duke's Swarm. Somewhat better 10" drivers, same Dayton SA1000 amps. Placement could hardly be easier. Just like Duke said, place them different distances from corners. Setting levels could hardly be easier. Very small adjustments are subjectively larger than they seem, and this varies with volume. So after getting it very close almost right away it then took about a month of tweaking level a tiny bit one way, then another, until finally settling and now haven't felt the need to touch it in like 2 years. The beauty of this is the quality of subs is far less a factor and so just about any four subs will get you far better bass than any amount of money spent on just one or two. Everyone I know who has this raves about it. We all say the exact same things. Only those who haven't tried it stick with the same old approach that simply does not work. This does!
