Wassup Y'all, my name is Gabriel or The Paperback Voyager here on TH-cam, and I've decided to officially join Booktube! This video is an introduction to who I am and what you can expect from my channel. Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:42 Why did I start this channel 2:40 What is unique about this channel 4:14 Why do I love reading 5:56 What are some books that got you back into reading 9:12 When did I...
Welcome, sir! I'm really just now dipping my toe into horror literature, so I'm eager to see more from you! Cheers!
I love Something Wicked This Way Comes! Bradbury is one of my favorite authors. Tintin! My brother and I devoured as many of those as we could find when I was a kid.
Fellow newbie here. Great stuff
Love love love sci-fi...hyperion and empire of silence is a great place to start cant wait to see you read more!
Welcome to Booktube. Love the channel name. If you like Lovecraft maybe Cthulhu C-mass I think the reading event is called. It’s in December. Maybe that’s a fun reading event for you. I read my first Lovecraft stories this year as I had a Dutch Lovecraft comic. I decided to first read the original stories before reading the comic adaptations.
amazing pick ups brotha! not sure if you’re into audiobooks but i strongly recommend the narration of first law by steven pacey. for me it’s almost as if joe abercrombie wrote the books personally for him to read.
ayyy thanks bro! Ive been hearing amazing things about the audiobooks. I’m super into audiobooks mostly for short stories but I might have to check out the blade itself AB now! 🙌
About poetry, I recommend you read The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa, amazing!
Will definitely check it out and add it to my list ! Thanks for the recommendation
Hey there, nice video! Hyperion is probably my favourite book of all time so it would be good to hear your thoughts when you're done. I just made my channel and will be almost exclusively talking about science fiction books if you're interested in any further recommendations.
Thanks! I Just finished up Hyperion, crazyyyy read! Will definitely check out your channel from some dope sci-fi recs as well
NICE! I finally bought the Brando Sando Stormlight Archive set 🎉
Stormlight is something I wanna pick up eventually! Have you read it yet, or starting now?
@@PaperbackVoyager I’ve read 200+ pages a day, I can’t put it down
I agree!
Good luck with booktube!
Thank you!
Welcome to booktube! Planning on joining myself soon. Made videos before but I’m coming back!
Thanks! And wishing you a pleasant return back to booktube
@@PaperbackVoyager thank you
Welcome to BookTube! I just joined BookTok in April and I love creating content but I start to lose myself and the purpose so taking some time off. Social media is pretty dangerous. I don’t know what’s up with the tangent but hey welcome again! Lol. Rooting for you. 🎉
Thank you! still on a long instagram break myself and it’s been incredible. Appreciate the positive wishes man!
Exactly! This only happened four times. But glad I have been reading what I want to read instead of what I think I should read. But yes, normalise DNF-ing!
It’s so so important, just read for fun!! Gotta remind myself constantly still
I need my teleporter right now! 😮
I’ve been trying to adopt this mentality as of late because I used to feel so bad when I didn’t want to finish a book. Now, even if it feels a bit weird to do so, I stop reading a book and move on to read something else. Also, I can’t wait to see more videos from you. Hopefully you do a bookshelf tour next! 😁
Yes!! It took me a while as well, and forreal loll me too, it still feels a little weird putting a book back down and knowing I might never pick it up again 😵💫😵💫
Hey welcome to BookTube! I'm just documenting my thoughts on what I read. I'm an avid horror book and manga reader, but I'm open to other genres as well. What are some of your favorite authors? Again, welcome to BookTube. 🙂❤📚
Awesome, thanks! My favorite manga ever was case closed, haven’t read them in years though. Some of my favorite Horror authors however are: Lovecraft, Thomas Ligotti, Laird Barron, Clive barker, Michael McDowell, King and Machen to name some!
Omg I need to go there and smell the gorgeous old book smell I bet is in the air! I’d never leave ❤
Nothing quite like a book that’s been through several decades!
@@PaperbackVoyager I’ve just started collecting. I’ve got a few that I got from charity shops over the years and I think they are becoming a collection lol. Wish I could show you lol
If I ever make it to NYC (I’m from the uk) it’ll definitely be on my list of places to go
100% check it out! Can’t recommend it enough, so many gems to be found
Wow! That’s so cool!
Glad you liked it!
Hi and welcome to booktube! Hope you love it here. I am such a huge fan of Stephen king as well. Also your edition of Carrie is so beautiful, love how those books are displayed
Thank you! It's been a lot of fun so far making some youtube shorts. I love having a few floating book displays for some lightweight paperbacks, makes my little work area feel super cozy :D
haven’t seen a Full Tilt copy in awhile. Read that in middle school and I only remember being scared hahaha. Must go back and read that now
Dam that's great. But I usually read 100k words in about a day because o like to read as soon as I get a new book. Unfortunately that lasts for a week at most, and since books (big books) are kinda expensive here I resort to reading fanfiction. ALOT of fanfiction...
I get that initial surge whenever I pickup a new book as well, fan faction is something I’m curious about, I’ve never read any!
@PaperbackVoyager well, I definitely recommend giving it a try if you don't have any good book to read. I found some incredible gems between them a few times, and I think it's worth a shot. But keep in mind, these are works with no real editing or anything like that, and 60% of the time, it's some nonsense a 16 year-old while in his emo faze wrote, lol. You gotta search for the good stuff, but man, when you find that perfect 500k words fanfic that'll keep you reading an entire week, it just hits differently. A bit of a lottery, you might say. Anyways, if you'll ever think of trying, I recommend "ao3." It's the best one right now. You just gotta write in Google "ao3 (insert a name of a character of relationship, Harry Potter for example) and yea, enjoy (you might wanna watch a tutorial on how to use the site, it's a bit complicated for beginners) Also, sorry for the rant. It's not every day I speak with someone about fanfiction 😅
Welcome to BookTube! I love psychological thrillers, but I have been unsure about trying horror. Any recommendations for a nervous first time horror reader?
Thank you! And yeah totally have some recommendations. I would say if you’re just getting Into horror, picking up a collection of short stories by various authors is a great place to start. You’ll be able to gauge what style of horror works for you. An author I would recommend is Laird Barron: the beautiful thing that awaits us all is a great short story collection of his. he’s a great writer and his stuff isn’t overwhelming. Blackwood’s Baby and The Redfield girls are two stories I really like. A great novel to start out with too if you like a longer read is Misery By Stephen King. Gripping from the very beginning-isolated, claustrophobic horror!
@@PaperbackVoyager Thanks so much!! I do want to try the genre more, so I will definitely look those up.
Welcome to booktube! I also love Agatha Christie, great to see a mention! I like horror, but I'm never sure what to read next, so I'm interested in your thoughts!
Can never get tired of Agatha Christie! I’ll definitely be making a lot of content around horror books so look forward to those!
@@PaperbackVoyager Great, thank you!
I may be one of those people who reads a five hundred page book in a day and never reads another book for about a month😂 consistency is hard
That’s an incredible feat in and of itself tho! Haha yeah consistency is toughhh
Hello and welcome to book tube. I'm pretty new to this business and still finding my way around. Best wishes with what you choose to read and to your channel. Happy reading to you!
Hey, thanks for stopping by, Appreciate the wishes and happy reading to you as well!
My goal is to read 3 pages a day of each book I read. Sometimes I don't, but mostly I exceed this by tenfold or something. Still: I often feel as if I can't accomplish my "reading goals". So putting it all into perspective is very helpful. (is a page around 300 words? I need like a minute, depending on the content, for a page in my native language, but around 2,5min in english)
Setting small reading goals like that and overshooting them is a massive boost to reading motivation as well. I used to say I'm only gonna read 5 pages and then end up reading like 15 or 20! And yes, a page is typically anywhere from 240-300 words depending on the size of the print (250 is the most common in my experience.)
This is what i’ve been doing for just over a year now and it helps with so much (stress, sleep and overall mental health)
Love that you brought up how much it can help with sleep and overall mental health. I've found that reading has had a massive positive impact on those areas of my life as well
I've read a fan fiction which that has some millions of words lol
A fan fiction with over a million words sounds insane lol
Welcome to Booktube!
Thank you!
@@PaperbackVoyager Your welcome. I mostly read horror and fantasy.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽reading is for fun and if you aren’t having fun then what’s the point? 😂
Seriously! If you're constantly not enjoying what you're reading, do you even want to in the first place? haha
I never looked at an book and thought i didn't have the time to read it. Its either do I want to read that book or not. I have gotten in the trap of organizing my books and before you know it i have read 5 books and am longing on a pile of books.
Yeah exactly, I'll look at a book and if I wanna read it I'm gonna pick it up, and if not, well... On to the next one!
@@PaperbackVoyager I have bought a lot of books from library sells where at the beginning of the book sell you buy them by the inch and at the end it's by the paper bag full. One night I was having trouble sleeping and thought I would get an boring book about the history of the theater in London it was supposed to be a part of an 5 vol set I just had book two. And well I was up all night because it was vary interesting also funny. I learned a lot about where such terms as an packed house came from and why we need crowd control.
Welcome to booktube!
Thank you! Looking forward to the ride
Really puts things into perspective. Thanks for the motivation!
Anytime! And yeah, once you see the numbers outlined in front of you it doesn't seem so daunting
I love your energy man!
Ayy thank you man!
Wish you and your channel the best man your shorts made me pick up reading books again!!
Yooo that means so much, thank you! And that’s so awesome that you’re getting back into reading man!
For me, I jave to finish a book even if I dislike it, because I think "if I finish it, at least I can tell people who ask me WHY i disliked it and give that opinion with full context of having read the book".
That’s a pretty good stance on it, I’ve done that in the past but eventually for me I just grew tired of brute forcing my way through certain books
"most of us AREN'T gona do that" .....we're not?
Haha true, I should speak for myself 😂
You forget as we read we get the ability to read faster
So true, when I got back into reading I was so slow, now I feel like I’ve doubled my speed
I was rereading a series i never finished it ended too fast because it was only 5 250 page books
Great books tho would read again a little childish for me now but still very enjoyable for someone a bit more mature than the books were intended for
@@waleyboi06 sometimes those books from our childhood still hold up even today!
i got so many books i wanna read so i might now 👀👀
If you start now, by the time next July rolls around you'll already have knocked out a few books easily!
I COULD try this, but my wife would laugh at me with her 120 books a year.
120 is crazy!! haha she's as dedicated a reader as they come, hats off
That's alot of numbers. I just recently found you thanks to algorithm and i imidetaly subscribed
Yoo, I'm glad the algorithm led you to this video, and thanks for subbing as well!
300 pages in 8 hours? Wow, slow reading...
I wish I could read faster :/
@@PaperbackVoyager most people do.. I know I think a lot of people are slow, but that's just perspective I guess. I generally read 300 pages in an hour if the text is small enough. If I'm really into a book then I will read up to 600 pages an hour. So it does all depend on multiple factors. I would recommend that you explore these factors to find out what is most comfortable for your reading. Large print hurts my eyes.
Love ya man, please keep this energy forever and hope my kids looks at this video later
Thank you man, this comment just made my day, seriously!
Np man, seeing people like you, make me feel alot better of the future. Keep it up bro. On another note im still tracking down a book I read from the 90s, a version of the Brothers Grim that had alot illustrations/pictures in a big book.
@@HyperwolfSama Will do my man, appreciate you! And damnn, tracking down an old book is like trying to get in touch with an old friend. I hope it makes its way to you
@@PaperbackVoyagerthanks bro, ima find that old friend.
That's awesome man
Im dyslexic tho
