Protect Alaska's public lands and waters
มุมมอง 639 หลายเดือนก่อน
BLM-managed lands support important subsistence resources and serve as the breadbasket for thousands of Athabaskan, Aleut, Denaʼina, Inupiat, Yup’ik, and Tlingit peoples. 28 million acres are under threat, which could open these lands to industrialization, contaminating waterways and disrupting migrations corridors. Protect Alaska's public lands
มุมมอง 529 หลายเดือนก่อน
Alaskans are faced with an unprecedented opportunity to proactively ensure 28 million acres of wild, diverse, healthy public lands are prioritized for public use - including hunting, fishing, hunting, subsistence, recreation, and sustainability. These Alaska lands allow caribou to migrate, salmon to spawn, and wolves to wander from ocean to ocean - and unless we act now, they may be carved up f...
Fishery Injustice

“We’ve been living and depending on salmon for about 12,000 years. I can’t think of a more obvious case of social injustice and environmental injustice than what we’re seeing in terms of salmon mismanagement in Western Alaska.” - Mary Peltola, Congressional representative for all Alaska In the federally managed waters off Alaska's coast is a great injustice: the pollock trawl fleet, which bycat...
Nine years after Mount Polley
มุมมอง 181ปีที่แล้ว
On August 4, 2014, Imperial Metals' Mount Polley mine waste dam failed, spilling 6.6 billion gallons of toxic mine waste into the pristine wild salmon habitat of Quesnel Lake, British Columbia, the traditional territory of the Xatśūll First Nation. British Columbia has extended the permit allowing Imperial Metals to dump harmful waste from Mount Polley mine directly into Quesnel Lake until 2025...
Trollers are Conservationists

Representative Mary Peltola listening session: the Alaska pollock trawl fleet's bycatch
มุมมอง 792ปีที่แล้ว
Representative Mary Peltola of Alaska held a listening session on the pollock trawl fleet's bycatch - its non-targeted catching and wasting of king salmon, chum salmon, halibut, snow crab, Bristol Bay red king crab, herring, and many other species during the North Pacific Fishery Management Council's April meeting. Every year, the pollock trawl fleet in Alaska catches and, for the most part, wa...

Trolling is vital to Southeast Alaska - and trollers play a vital role in the future of wild salmon. The pollock trawl fleet wastes enormous amounts of salmon, halibut, crab and other species each year

"Every fish we bring on board, another pound was caught, killed and dumped by the trawl fleet." - Guide David Bayes on the enormous waste from the pollock trawl fleet. Fishing has Been Going on for Hundreds and Hundreds of YEARS WAY before We we're ever Alaskan Fisherman anything, And I Fished All My life Growing up and the town I grew up in you can't fish There either..!! In 2023, Anymore.! But in the '90s, when I was growing up, you could fish At any point of the river, at any time of the day, or night..! NOW The City Has A Restrictions, on a Time limit for people swimming, Let alone floating in the River, I grew up Freely Swimming in, and Fishing In, NOW I Hate That River with a passion, Because The City Put Ten Foot Fences on the side of the River As well..!, so you Can't Just Hop in the River, At any point of the river, Like you Used to be able to! You Actually have To Pay Money To Float Down The River..!! Crazy Huh..!!..? When Back Then No One EVER PAID To Swim OR Float The River, And what's worse This River In TEXAS Has Security Officers In CANOES With Paddles, and you are stuck on a Tube So No Smoking Or Drinking Of Any Kind, But Back In The Day.., I know because I was floating down the river since the CHANGE.., and I was smoking Not a 🚬, and Anyways, This Security Officer Came From Behind me So Fast, in a canoe, 👮🛶 Grabbed My hand out of the water And Luckily I was able to get rid of it, before he actually CAUGHT up with me.., but this officer in the canoe, did not let my hand go, until he pulled me, to the side of under a train bridge that the river went under.., and kicked me out of the river for 24 hours..! First time in my life that has ever happened and I have not been back to That awful river since..! What it used to be Was AMAZING, What it is Now, PURE DOG CRAP..!!! We As AMERICAN CITIZEN ARE Told We Are Free But OUR MIND'S ARE CONTROLLED EVERYDAY..!! With FABRICATED LIES, From The GOVERNMENT To Make You Feel More AT Home And Before You Know It America Is Going To Be A Caged in Prison, and Cost More To Leave This Country Then To Actually STAY We ALL ARE SLAVE'S TO THE GOVERNMENT, AND DON'T EVEN KNOW IT..!!!!

I do believe trawling is bad, in. The 70ies these fleets was called thr clinton boats, yes the corrupt fishing boat was the clinton boats. But: i do not believe king salmon are where the plankton eaters are. Guides follow the king salmon, and they are on the coast, Guide know where the kings are And there not where the pollock or the red salmon are. Its a polotical lie. King crab are a victim of the trawl fleet. Kings are preditors There eyees face forward, they hunt food, They dont travel in schools. One lie by guides, adfg, coastal conservation, bass pro, congress, and lobbist, are trying to get more funding. These lies, are communist, democratic lies. Big goverment, taking away rights , to boost there agenda, destroy you Then build back bigger goverment. Salmon state stay focus on truth, not sc I ence, science is a myth, thathas to be provin! And this science is a lie. 😮

Educate yourself. The indigenous and resident people of the Yukon River are prohibited to harvesting salmon while these trawler/draggers are allowed to catch thousands of salmon as bycatch only to throw them overboard as prohibited species.

I’m sorry, this is entirely untrue. Your claim “the pollock trawl fleet dumps 380,000 pounds of fish per day” is wrong on so many levels. The Bering Sea is managed via 100% retention and 100% observer coverage. No fish is dumped. The Gulf of Alaska is managed via ~ 30% observer coverage; with many vessels using 100% Electronic Monitoring Camera systems. We’re all 100% retention while fishing pollock. I’d welcome you aboard for a pollock trip anytime on board my boat; which is a wholly owned Alaska small business. Then, maybe you’d open your eyes to my industry instead of spewing baseless accusations online.
