What is the best version of the top C? Gregorio Allegri: Miserere (LIVE VERSIONS)

What is the best version of the top C? Gregorio Allegri: Miserere (LIVE VERSIONS)
I've found that in "casting" choirs for broadly-split pieces like Lauridsen's (or Whitacre's), it's advantageous to have many more men women (if possible). Generally, the lower the pitch, the more singers needed to project it. As few top sopranos as possible, on down. The most successful grouping I've had with this particular piece (without having to take it up a half-step): 8 B3, 8 B2, 7 B1, 6 T2, 5 T1, 4 A2, 4A1, 3S2, 2S1. Sometimes I would have the A2 sing with the T1s and vice versa...but this division allowed for each pitch to resonate at generally the same volume. Another helpful hint: when auditioning voices, if people insist on always singing a certain part (because they always sang that before), I'd advise not working with them at all. You need people who are flexible.
absolutely divine. The recapitulation with the addition of the Hallelujah (04:30) is fantastic
What a great sound ! Thank you so much for posting
I would say the best one ive ever heard in 45 years is Voces 8 which isn't on here! Andrea the soprano is the best of the best imho. Of these though I would say the 1994 version from the Tallis scholars.
Absolutely divine!
I loved hearing all the different groups and versions but the best top C wasn’t included in this video clip. Do a search for - Roy Goodman & Kings College Allegri Miserere, 1963
The one choir which should be here is Voces8.
This gorgeous! I hope you'll post the whole missa!
I'm sorry but there isn't the whole missa! It doesn't exist! Sigh
What a beautiful culture
The best performance of this piece I've ever listened. Beautiful!
The 1994 Tallis Scholars had the cleanest rendition. Everybody's good on the high C itself but the notes around it matter too.
#1 is #1 here... Josephine Stephenson's melody just blossoms and transforms into something etherial. Although, all were wonderful, and this was the best video ever made on TH-cam.
I was amazed by the ease, power and accuracy brought by the singer of the bird ensemble, that's my favourite, but also Tenebrae is one of my favourites. I missed Voces8 and loved the less known recordings. Thanks!
I am not talk about this Gregorio I’m talking about do you know Southwest Elementary not like Southwest Elementary, Southwest Elementary, like Savannah and Savannah I go there and this is not the one I listen to I listen to Gregório from Columbia
Another vote for Andrea Haines and VOCES8 (not included in the video, but linked here!) th-cam.com/video/cLtm0DqNPHM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iT4vghfS6PL3iTmc
Most reaching for the note which works but Cleobury 1987 didnt even strain. Indicates to me the piece mb was written for a boy soprano.
1) Tenebrae-Josephine Stephenson 2) Sixteen-2010 Elin Manahan-Thomas 3) Sixteen 2021 Victoria Metyard 4) Sixteen evolution Victoria Metyard & Alexandra Kidgell. (at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral) Historically the version that probably 1st brought this piece to public attention was King's College solo treble Roy Goodman (in English). All fine voices! 😂
Thank you for listing the names of these angelic singers.
th-cam.com/video/IsDRUVDsZRg/w-d-xo.html Soprano sings the whole phrase without an obvious pause for breath, amazing control. Then they did this version too..th-cam.com/video/cLtm0DqNPHM/w-d-xo.html 😊
<3
I still can't believe that humans can make sounds like that.....😮
My favorite isn't here. Listen to Voces8 with the wonderful Andrea Haines. th-cam.com/video/IsDRUVDsZRg/w-d-xo.html
My fav is Ars Nova with Paul Hillier (at 0:42)
Choir of New College, Oxford - Edward Higginbottom
Byrd Ensemble the best. Others very good also.
4:27 leonardo grcónarcía alacron provides the best overall performance. Not taking away from the soprano, but it's the chorus line that makes it beautiful.
Stephen Cleobury , by far .. ( l sang in Montreal Christ Church Cathedral boys choir 1972-1984)
All are fabulous
(1987)King 's College Chapel Choir-Stephen Cleobury
Josephine of Tenebrae! The Tallis 2020 soprano is also great.
Favourite? All so good. Impossible to pick a favourite.
Tenebrae/Nigel Short but the ones using choir boys, Marian Consort, The 16, were good. I noticed all the ones I liked were British
Where's the name of the sopranos?????
Tenebrae
Aksel, the sixteen, Tenebrae overall is so smooth. But boys so it best.
Una bellissima performance ma un errore che sento sempre nei cori specialmente di lingua tedesca è che non si pronuncia affatto bene il latino. Il testo è troppo importante quanto la musica, il tempo, i passaggi cromatici ecc...
The singer in the Pueri et Puellae Cantores sings the top C phrase softly and sublimely. She even looks like a renaissance angel. They're all wonderful
Tenebrae is best for me and seems the closest to how it should have sounded back in centuries
This has become my go to piece when i need to feel better😊
Byrd Ensemble fluido; the tallis scholars contundente; Choir of New College y Nordstrand Church Choir por el color de la voz de los niños
8 voices are the best
imagine not being a boy soprano who can pretty much hit it easily.
allegri's miserere doesn't contain the top C, this is Rockstro's miserere.
Doest matter what the question is, the answer is always Josephine Stephenson ❤
The first is the First. Il primo è continuo, senza cali di potenza ,un do ininterrotto, legato, una vibrazione che va diritta al tuo cuore
helium ballon kid did it better...
everyone
My favorite performance th-cam.com/video/vowFjYUpS8s/w-d-xo.html
I have to add that at about 6 minutes - a police siren ran by outside - and I'm pretty sure it was in tune . . !
This enseble is made to be sung primarily by boys. They do sound better than the ladies singing this part, in my honest choice. As a soprano myself, it's hard to admit that the vocal component of pre-adolescent boys produce this kind of magnificent sound when they sing. ❤😊
There is nothing else like choir music...
