Richard McFarlane's LOST art on BBC East Midlands Today
มุมมอง 306ปีที่แล้ว
Rachel Royce from BBC East Midlands today came in to film Rob (museum founder), Jenny (Richard's mum) and Tamzin (Richard's sister) about the lost artwork recovered from his computer and converted into modern image files. The art was created in DPaint II and saved on a floppy disc which was corrupt. To get the artwork off (once finding it) the floppy had to be restored, a serial cable made, and...

I've still got mine and it's still in working condition, however the PSU fan is too noisy, I'd like to replace it with a fanless one for completely silent operation. Do you know if I can buy or do something to achieve that?
I'm not sure on the exact size of fan used, but if you're looking for silent (or quiet at least) fans then Noctua make some great replacement ones. Of course be very careful doing anything with a PSU due to voltages involved, and be sure its unplugged!
@@derbycomputermuseum6503 Actually, I a fan of fanless systems, zero noise and dust, got a PC build that way, although I've had to sacrifice perfromance. Just worried if the old RISC PC PSU will have heat issues if I unplug that fan.
Great video! I had a couple of RiscPC 600’s donated to me from my old primary school in Western Australia many years ago, both with StrongARM 233’s. This was back in around 2004/2005, and I long since moved them on. Hopefully they went to happy homes and had the battery taken care of!
Great informative video John :)
Thank you for making this. I really rather enjoyed it. I do hope you'll feel able to make more, especially for other UK centric devices. (Things like this are seriously tempting me to become a volunteer.)
Lovely stuff! Maybe you could do a deep dive on the code for the scroller at some point?
Nice idea! The code is actually freely available online - we provided to the Educational Software Archive at www.flaxcottage.com/. Search under BBC archive for "Scroller" and you should find a DFS format image (.ssd) with the program on.
Mmmm, LAN gaming! Is swearing permitted?
I’ll never forget playing micro machines at my friends house in the 90s! Also absolutely love worms and goldeneye.
Thanks guys, Rick Dangerous is the game that made me buy my first 16 bit computer in the late 80's. It has a very special place in my heart, I was depressed and it helped me find my way back to life. joy of living. (sorry for my bad english)
When you consider the games industry today, backed by behemoths throwing billions of dollars into game development and then contrast that with a dilapidated little office in Dundee in which a true gaming classic was born over 30 years ago... it really brings things into perspective.
Very nice set up guys.
👍
I want to click like but I just can't :P
Never knew this guy was from Derby, probably served me when I used to go in first byte as a kid.
Wow, this is enough to bring a tear to the eye.
Good interview. Please get some proper mics.
This was a really good interview, please do more of these, I love computer history! :D
Thanks matey
