I am due to go back to the Witches books, been a while since i re-read them.Always loved how Pratchett would satirised certain things but it never felt mean spirited. You have had a great selection of reads!

What a lovely discussion of this wondrous work, youdid a great job getting across the immersion and how compulsive this is. I adore everything Selznick has put out, but this one is my favorite. If you haven't seen it, there is a beautiful edition he did illustrating Whitman's Live Oak With Moss, exploring especially the gay storytelling of the poetry I think as his only adult audience work to date.

Invention of Hugo Cabret won the Caldecott, which was shocking since it’s not a picture book in the standard thinking.

I've read all of the Ruth Galloway mysteries and always thought they were set on the Norfolk coast. ??? I did live in Somerset England for two years but most of my life has been in the USA, so that's only guess work. For me, the first nine Ruth Galloway mysteries were very good; the latter ones disappointing.

I've read two of Derek Gow books and I enjoyed thay one for sure. It's weird living in a very rural place and then learning about the controversy of some countries in efforts to bring back wolves and then UK resisting reintroduced beavers haha

Hello Lorraine, I frequently talk about a tree grows in Brooklyn on my channel. I grew up in that same neighborhood in Brooklyn. albeit at 100 years later. Everything about the book is divine, including the author Betty Smith who wrote many other books that were all autobiographical, she said. I am glad I am not the only one that found, despite liking it, braiding sweetgrass too long. I was only able to finish it by listening to the audiobook.

Oh! I like shelf that you have now, that’s perfect to elevate them to hovering above the stairs and protect them and you during the assent and descent! Your floral print would fit right in with the Met Gala yesterday, floral prints were all the rage, and it was a Ballard short story that was the primary inspiration.

Hey Laureen I’m sending you a travel book.

I read The Road to Litchfield last year and loved it. It was written in the 1970's, when I was in my twenties, and is so evocative of that time. Details like the price of petrol, young mothers wearing smocks, changes in education... It was the first Penelope Lively I'd read and I went on to read others but I liked The Road to Litchfield best.

I never realized that sailboats were also available without sails...cool...;) So excited for you and proud of you Friend. XO

I pretty much agree with everything you say here. The protagonist was too much of a Mary Poppins character for me, and I know that was intentional because the author spelled it out, but it just didn't work. I hear this is a feel-good book, but it made me frustrated with its lack of direction or plot. Not the worst book I've ever read, but a solid 3 out of 5 stars for me too
