@@theevanwilliamsproject I really didn't expect you to respond to my admittedly off-handed comment. I mostly deal with Americans, so I'm out of practice communicating with an intelligent, logical, reasonable human being like yourself. I have a Behringer UMC1820 myself and use it as an interface for a small rig for my working Acoustic Duo. I love it. It gives me room for vocals mics, multiple guitar inputs, (I use a wet/dry setup + a dedicated channel just for my Boss OC-5 FX only output) a Beat Buddy drum pedal & backing tracks from my iPad when desired. I rewatched your video & I rescind my earlier comment about you working too hard. You have, in my humble opinion, done a great job streamlining/simplifying your live setup. Great video and, BTW, great playing & great band!

@@jonnyroxx7172 Fair enough. I appreciate you taking the time to respond as well. Since this video was made we've made some changes - and there's definitely still places we can streamline. I'm a TD by day and I know the kinds of things that annoy me when bands come in, so I do try my best to make things easy on the techs when we go places. With that being said, not all techs are prepared to patch a 7-input snake, and not all venues have the equipment necessary to do so; so we're still figuring things out. The basics of routing things through the DAW still stand, and the 1820 has survived a few years of gigging now and is still kicking. We're running even more stuff through it, now, and it's surprisingly capable for recording, so all in all I'm pretty happy with it.

@ I'm using the 1820 for recording as well & it's doing quite well. Our live setup is the 1820 into a laptop running Logic X & out through a couple of Bose L1 16s. Double-rack case with cabling all attached & ready to roll out, laptop on top (usually sitting on a table or a chair - these are small venues & we're completely self-contained) my pedalboard, 2 mics & my iPad into that & we're done. No monitors needed w/the Bose system. We used to travel with an entire old-school PA (15" mains on stands, sub-woofer, wedge monitors, backline amps, etc...) but when you turn 58 & you remember carting your 2 Marshall stacks to the clubs & small tours during the 80's... not to mention all the touring acts you worked with during the 90's... (Billy Joe Armstrong still owes me $20) it gets a bit ridiculous. As techs, you & I at least know how to approach the venues & the engineers. Great talking with you.

Trust your ears! To me I was happier with the tone I got from the Black Winters - I found in a mix I had to wrangle the stock pups more, especially in the highs.

@@FaustoGenovese I think you're right - you probably can't do both with the one unit. You could get a second one and send MIDI to it on a different channel (ie send your PC/CC to the first on midi channel 1, to the second on 2) and there might be a way to configure which channels the PODs are expecting control change messages on. I haven't used one so I wouldn't be able to tell you. Alternatively a Helix LT or rack should, I believe, give you the routing options you need. But that's definitely more of an investment.

Thanks for the sub! I will admit, having gigged with this thing for some time now, the Behringer does have its issues as well -- mainly with the preamps -- but at the price point (and now that it's available in Canada again from L&M at a reasonable price) I'm fully invested in running with it until it becomes infeasible to do so. The big upgrade path from here would be an X32 rack but that's a lot of money for a band like us that's still playing clubs.

Thanks! I was using Neural DSP's Archetype Gojira (the original, but the updated version will probably be the same). The chain: DI ---> Chorus pedal: 29% rate, 70% depth, 55% feedback, 22% mix ---> "HOT Amp" (the third one), 43% Gain, Low 50%, Mid 60%, High 64%, Master Vol. 64%, Presence 70%, Depth 55%, Level -1.4 ---> "Cab 2". Dynamic 57 on both sides. Positions 0.3 and 0.42. Distances 0.0 and 0.3. Level -12.0 and -24.0. Pan dead center for both. ---> Reverb on, no shimmer. 15% wet. Time all the way down. Low and high cut both at 12 o'clock. I wouldn't be able to tell you the real life counterparts to any of the gear in the Archetype, but the general idea is to push the gain up on a hot amp instead of boosting it before the input, give it a little mid, high, and presence boost, then run it through a good cab (Celestion Vintage 30 was (and still is?) the go-to for crunchy metal tone when I was getting started) mic'd with a 57. The little bit of chorus and reverb isn't doing much other than adding a bit of body to the tone and you could probably do without and not lose out.

In this video we were using a Monoprice 8-channel TRS to XLR male snake. As of writing it's $54 on Amazon. We've since changed the output routing setup but are still using a Monoprice snake. They do the job well enough.
