Not sure which I'm more impressed with. The skill, detail and time put into making somethign so impressive... or the fact they own a cat and it hasn't gone Godzilla mode on the castle or pooped in it. Cuz... cats *stares at my own twin trouble makers of destruction and chaos*

What did you color the clay with?

Very nice, but building the entire project out of modeling clay? For thh past 20 year's i have been building my base and elevations out of 2 inch insulation board. Much easier, and cheaper,to rough mold then cover with a small layer of clay, or use that expanding construction foam in a spry can. It is also very easy mold into what you want. But otherwise very nice.

Let's be honest, what impressed me most was not so much the construction of the castle, which is gorgeous, but the tiny builders!

Nicely done. However, for your next project, you might consider using XPS foam boards (commonly available at home improvement stores as insulation). It is cheap, easy to cut (especially with a hot wire cutter, but a hobby knife will do), you can press textures into it (either with a rolled up ball of aluminum foil to simulate stone surface, or texture rollers for patterns like pavers, cobblestones, bricks, etc, and it is very lightweight while staying rigid and sturdy. So a project like this would be much easier to move. You can do the stonework for walls by cutting shallow lines with a hobby knife, then widening and rounding them by running a ball-point pen in the grooves. Or, you can cut the individual blocks, tumble them in a bucket with some rocks, and glue them with PVA glue or a hot glue gun, if you really want a random stone rather than a dressed stone look. A wire cutter will make quicker work of that. But I think the scribing and pen-finishing technique would look very much like what you did here. There are many tutorials on TH-cam. Also, for thinner foam you can peel the paper from a foam core project board (dollar store is great for this). You can reinforce thin foam core with a wash of thinned PVA glue for extra rigidity if needed. For scribed round towers, I’d glue foam core to cardboard tubes (oatmeal canisters, perhaps), scribe & pen the lines, and finish with the surface texture with quick rolling with a foil ball. The crenelations, windows, and open doorways, I’d make thicker scribed pieces and hot glue them on. Then paint with acrylic paint, and a black ink wash to pick out the textures. That sounds like a lot, but I think I could do a similar project in a couple weeks, perhaps less, depending on the level of detail I wanted on painting and texturing…far less time than a year and a half for sure!

This is the best model castle I have seen. A work of art. Also you have 39:02 39:02 out excellent defences. I particularly liked the outer drawbridge forming an upward ramp. The outer door is not on the same level as the approach ramp. Excellent protection from rams.
