Thank you for this. I had no idea what animal was making that male chick sound. Then it sounded like it was coming from the coup. This video verified my little guy is making that sound.

Almost sounds similar to the chittering of a Kookaburra.
They don’t have waddles, at all. I love them to pieces! My girls are cuddle bums…very,very sweet.

Yes, it's a chicken saddle, it protects the hen's back from rooster damage
As a chicken owner that noise is a warning because it has eggs or little ones wich it wants to protect
Or they're just annoyed with you or they're otherwise just a diva like my Basil is sometimes lol

It's a saddle so the rooster doesn't poke her With his spurs With these sharp 3 to 4 inch long spur hooks on the back of his feet. It's for her protection, but I do say give her a rest from it. She's trying to lay on her eggs. She should not have it on for more than an hour or 2. Around the rooster, 24/7, so she's hot And they need to give her a rest. While she's on the eggs at least.

It's a saddle, so the spurs don't hurt her. When the rooster mounts her for a meeting, she doesn't need it on in the egg box. Though she's panting and overheated, 😊gotta give her a rest from it.

I got knew chicks and to my suppruise I got an amucauna I got one that had a pattern of black and tan and some blue and purple and I named it hawk
Only have one lavender but plan on more in the spring. That's a special bird I find very interesting. Very cautious and calculated birds. Seem to have an intelligence not shared with the other birds. Joy to have around.

I remember when I raised chicks, they were kept in my downstairs bathroom and we later got more chicks that grew up to be pretty small and we named them nugget an popcorn and I loved them so much and now they are all dead, but we are going to get more chickens and hopefully more small chickens and we raise them very good
