Yeah its too bad they aren't doing more with it considering they could literally re-use the recordings. It would just need the upscale treatment they are obviously capable of doing. That being said they probably don't know if it will sell. They probably want to get more SMT hype so they can use the moniker to pudh dds1 and dds 2

I'm more hyped for that then anything else but it has been cool playing both reload and unicorn overlord. I love what they did with reload and I am enjoying the change of pace unicorn overload gives me as hardcore ogre battle/ tactics ogre fan. But I'll trade them both in right now for SMTV Vengeance.

@@douchebagbrigade I am approaching this with skeptical enthusiasm. SMT V was the most anticipated game of my life and I was sorely let down. This story better not suck.

@@Fuggettabouttitt Well I definitely can't disagree that the story built up in the first half was intriguing and turned into a huddled mass with no explanations, story threads breaking down and just a kind of emptiness. I'm a big fan of SMT II and the story in my opinion is awesome. It's hard to know if its the lack of the original storyboard team or maybe I desire to go more with a smt 3 connection instead of a return to SMT 1-2, or maybe I desire to try and not go to hard and stay persona fan friendly but it feels like the creators of five took the fans anger to heart. I'm extremely excited for the game because I loved SMT V for the gameplay and the atmosphere especially in the beginning of the game. Basically I was left just wanting more but also feeling uninspired in later parts of the game. However, I'd be lying if I wasn't just excited for more of the game and the fact that it isn't just like a version with a couple additions makes me much happier than just an upgraded battle system or extra demons etc. This feels like a chance for this particular team to redeem themselves. They can make up for leaving us with such a bland story and gives us a truly inspired game especially if it starts at the halfway mark where I believe the games story began to fall apart and lose its identity the first time around.

DDS 1 and 2, while not my favorite, they are incredible games and I'd absolutely take that over another persona spin off. No hate to Persona but if we are kind of getting persona overload

All the story/character criticisms are fair. Rushed yes, needs to have a maniax style addition with some story re-writes and straight up overall changes. Characters in the first half I was cool with second half that part seems to fall apart. Completely fair point about alignment but a step up from there last outing with smt IV apocalypse. Open world still should get credit for the first place and the idea that was set forth. This puts a precedence for future games to go with the open world motif that can be perfected in the future. I played it on Switch and didn't really notice performance issues So I cant comment on that. I say the combat was awesome, that being said hjave you ever played SMT 1 or SMT 2 or Strange Journey?? the combat of SMT games is typically thought out so I mean of course it slow paced. The level scaling...I mean again have you played any other SMT games they all require grinding. So characters and story like I said need help and a majority of what you said is valid but your combat and gameplay critiques i mean this is how turn based rpgs are. Unless you are trying ot compare to Persona 5 which I would say is negatively impacted by a game that's to easy to of course it seems quicker. As many SMT games are forgotten to time this one will as well, but this is a nice starting point for the future. I never said S tier but It's definitely High B tier.

@@douchebagbrigade Everyone is hoping for a Maniax edition that fixes the story issues but it's important to be realistic about what they can do. This game is the way that it is as far as story is concerned. There's stuff baked into the cake that's just not very good, such as the fact that being able to travel to fake Tokyo at any time totally guts the feeling of being in the apocalypse. And really there's a ton of examples of this because the game is just poorly written. Also the open world being a blueprint for the future doesn't improve the rating for this particular game. You have to judge it for what it is right now. It becomes way less interesting to explore once you realize all the areas are palette swaps. I highly doubt you didn't see any instances of low frame rate during cutscenes as they were all over the place. I'm not saying combat is slow as in it requires thinking, I'm saying the animations take too long and there's a weird amount of time before you can act again after an enemy moves. I was skipping animations but it still felt too long. Also, a lot of battles in this game are endurance tests (because you're always running out of magic) which drags the game out. And no, all other SMT games don't have level scaling. Usually you have the option to create powerful demons with high stats that will be able to defeat enemies that are way higher level. As well as making the player character obscenely overpowered in a certain stat. In SMT V it restricts your freedom to do that and incentivizes grinding because no matter what if you're underleveled your stats won't matter much. Sure SMT V is a good blueprint for the future in a lot of aspects but we're talking about the quality of a game here, not the quality of a blueprint

@@athorem Story can always be changed to make it make more sense or be more interesting or fix poor script writing or character writing. You are correct that nothing is going to completely create a perfect story but there can be script re-write and fixes. MP issues as far as I can remember have been a staple within SMT games. All SMT game cap your ability to create demons higher then you overall " some games have sub apps or add ons to overwrite that but in the original games you couldn't summon above your level you had to grind if you wanted to be able to stand a chance against most bosses. The animations to be fair are a bit long winded sometimes but I think that adds something to the game especially when you first see them. Yeah they can get repetitive I mean look at the persona games and all out attacks. You have some good points here that I can't disagree with but you also seem to be picking on this game for things predecessors had. I believe I said in the video that you could tell at some point this game must have gotten released because of time. they gave use a product in 2021 because they felt they had to after making us wait 4 years. Even with its flaws I enjoyed this game. My biggest gripe is that they need to get Kaneko and Hanedo and some people from the original games back in the writers room. Megami tensei II is super simplistic but its a game dear to my heart. That game knows exactly how to utilize demons and play with its lore. Those are the kind of inspirational parts of an old game the next iteration needs to learn from. Still I give this game a high B tier status.

@@douchebagbrigade I think you are not understanding some of what I'm saying. Especially about the level scaling which Simply Dad mentioned as well. I'm not talking about a level cap here. I am talking about scaling stats based on level. The issue isn't that you can't make demons that are higher level than you, that's something that's to be expected. The issue with SMT V is that your stats are scaled based on level to the point where if you max Nahobino's magic or strength it doesn't make a dent in enemies if you're lower level. I am telling you: other SMT games do not have this. Even Persona 5 doesn't have this. You can make a lower level Persona with max strength and its stats won't be neutered just because its a lower level than the enemy. Also I'm not talking about special animations being long. Normal attacks in SMT V take a long time to finish and there's too much time in between taking an action and being able to take another one. I was mashing the skip button during attacks but it still felt like normal attacks were taking forever to finish. Also it doesn't matter whether something I criticize SMT V for is in another SMT game. We had that whole IGN controversy about SMT fans wanting SMT V to be judged on its own merits instead of being compared to other games so why be surprised when I judge the game on its own merits? We do want the same thing here which is just better SMT games. I think criticism is the way to achieve that. SMT fans get really defensive about the games but that's counterproductive because criticism makes future games better.

Yeah I'm in agreement here. The dungeons especially the soul matrix needed a lot more love within development. That being said I appreciate Atlas for announcing this only a few months before it released. After the excruciating wait for SMTV that was really nice to get an announcement and then [play the game literally within a short period of time .

I mean when it comes to mainline I'm not sure I'm ready to end the silent character thing but I could totally be ok with spinoff games removing the silent character. But only if its done right. I enjoyed ringo and felt that it was a great choice in this instance. I think the game was actually fun so I'm kind of shocked it wasn't really liked. I think a lot of fans of the first game didn't like that the connections were barely there and a lot of the megaten market is Persona stans and maybe they felt that the social interaction didn't play enough of a role. It's hard to say what the exact gripe with the game was. I could only say I didn't like that the battle system with the sabbath system is one sided. I wouldn't have minded a stack of sorts for the opponent. Something to make the game a little more even for both the player and AI

@@douchebagbrigade some of those were issues, also people where mad that it had day one DLC, Persona fans didn't like that it wasn't enough like Persona, SMT fans where mad it wasn't SMT enough(or too much like Persona). Also the marketing in the US was terrible and it got released when a lot of other games came out. Finally some people are angry it didn't come out on Switch....like how I felt about SMT5 not being on PS4.

@@DragonKingX78 I still feel that the credit for putting out a game quickly and giving us something fast was a good move in the aspect that they burnt us with the waits for Persona 5 and SMT V cant even start on re-fantasy lol. Yes, the weirdest decision was porting it to XBOX over switch i could understand porting it to all, but if the game can handle SMTV why cant it handle Soul hackers 2. I think SMTV should have been released to PS4/Ps5 but I'll be disappointed if we get a lazy "complete addition" comiung up here shortly. However an SMTVA would be cool.

Yeah I am in a way more intrigued on the Nocturne day because as you pointed out we got the hd remake cant expect much more then that. I'm hoping that the time they spend on the original games we get something crazy regarding those game, nocturne day maybe a Nocturne part 2 where the Demi Fiend gets thrown into a new world from within the Vortex world maybe he gets thrown into a modernized version of Megami Tensei II or SMT 1. SMTV day I'm kind of hoping for an apocalypse or if... type spin off like you stated but I'm assuming that'll be the least impressive day where they just port the game to more systems.

@@douchebagbrigade no, the event will be two days long. It will be on May 5th and 6th, it's that each day will focus on one game. The first day(5th) will focus on SMT Nocturne and the second day(6th) will focus on SMT5. So far there are no more details, we don't even know if we will get any announcements at all. Sorry, I should have worded that better.

Good break down to what you want I also wouldn't mind a monster reach of Majin tensei being revamped the game is sick if you like tactical rpgs. To be fair I'd literally be happy if they did any of the things you listed lol.

@@douchebagbrigade would like to see Majin Tensei being revamped with graphics at least as good as disgaea 5. I would also like to see a Strange Journey 2 but would like to play the first one...well first.

@@DragonKingX78 You got to pick it up my man Strange Journey is a great game. I'm in the camp of actually enjoying redux, but more so for the added side dungeon. Though it does get monotonous at one point I enjoyed the ability to get a little extra grinding in that way to prepare for the next area because strange Journey even compared to a lot of old megaten games is tough and intense. Can't go wrong either way though. I'm with you on disgaea level graphics but I'd even take devil survivor graphics at this point.

Interesting… so you wouldn’t recommend the alignment system from strange journey you would recommend implementing the tow system from persona q. That’s not a bad thought. One way or another though I think it’s fair to say that there needs to be some sort of tweak or addition to the battle system at some level though.

@@douchebagbrigade Oh definitely. Putting out a second remaster of a game that old without any tweaks would be nonsense. I wouldn't be against keeping the alignment system either, it's probably my favorite part from SJ since it adds to so much replayability, though we have to consider if it would turn off a newer player if they couldn't use their favorites because of this limitation so to speak.

@@phypesmash6154 The alignment system should definitely be kept. It part of both replayability and giving you reason to go one way or another if that's your favorite demon type. That being said completely overhauling the battle ystem from Strange Journey wouldn't be bad idea from any standpoint. If anything it feels like strange journeys battle system is was the original team would have liked to have done with original SMT battle system in some ways based on it being so alignment heavy.

@@douchebagbrigade I completely agree, SJ is a great foundation for an evolved row based SMT. The time it came out was rather peculiar too since they were already embracing the press turns system with more and more games/sequels but even with all that SJ stick the landing meaning you don't have to put press turns to make turn based rpgs fun

I'm a die hard and I'm currently playing the psx english translation of SMT1 and yeah I can get past the nothing new thing but if they actually took the time to remaster this thing or remke it and added nothing to the battle system I would honestly be a little disappointed. Wouldn't complain having a beautiful version of the game obviously but would like it a whole lot more with something added to the battle gmeplay.

It really is a lazy port overall. You would think at a minimum they would make physical copies with specific additions at a minimum to get more money. But I guess 20 bucks with near zero effort was a better move in there eyes.

Hey I appreciate that considering I'm pretty sporadic with the content so your continued viewership is very much appreciated. Essentially, I started the channel with a much bigger concept to have a sketch comedy show believe it or not lol. However, after my initial partner for the show ducked out I reestablished the page to things I enjoy like Music Sports DBZ and Video Games and since I didn't have much knowledge on editing etc I decided these would be raw videos. However after rethinking about it I decided this should be focused on something that doesn't get a lot of love. I'm a huge megaten fan and have been for years and when I started doing this very few people were talking about these games and I felt they deserved more shine then they do. I'm happy now we have an actual group of great megaten contributors and content creators like @Nyarly, @Tony4you and @Marsh just to name a few. They put a lot of time and effort into making incredible content. Whereas mine is a little bit more in the fashion of what should be a podcast, I really just want to share my knowledge to those that love megaten and give them my opinion. Sorry if that was long-winded.

Appreciate the comment and love man. The JP language barrier kept me from playing much of ronde. The graphics are ambitious but awful lol. Not that that’s everything but the slog in time is too much. I’d be heavily in favor of a remaster of course or remake. Devil survivor is great not trying to throw shade at it but something about majin Tensei specifically the second game felt masterful to me. I’m not sure the first entry goes into top snes levels for me but the second is a real gem.

@@douchebagbrigade haha I totally feel you about Ronde: I got a couple hours in using google lens and I just couldn't do it. The game is too damn slow and hideous, and the gameplay feels about as shallow as Majin Tensei 1 despite Ronde having much more detailed mechanics. It's not even the worst SRPG I've ever played, just an incredible mess of one. I'm playing through the Megaten games in release order and I've been watching reviews of the games as I finish them. Nobody has articulately covered the Majin Tensei games on yt really; I think you could do a great job with a thorough rvideo eview if you could capture game footage!
