@@garrykennedy5484 Statistically, hang gliding is not safer than paragliding, at least in the alps. In Germany the death ratio is about 4 paragliders: 1 hang glider (last ten years), which is about the overall ratio of paragliders and hang gliders. The dangers are only of a different nature. For example, paragliders have one significant safety advantage when flying xc: Landing in tight places or undulating terrain is much easier. Of course, collapsing is a main disadvantage of paragliders.

It is an accident statistic for paragliders (Gleitschirm) and hang gliders (Drachen) each. www.dhv.de/piloteninfos/sicherheit-und-technik/unfallforschung/unfall-jahresstatistik/ I must admit that the ratio of active hangliders: paragliders in germany was merely my estimation as there is no official statistic, but i would state that at least where i live the ratio is way higher for paragliders, on my local spots you rarely ever see hangliders. Either way, i would never say that paragliding is safer than hang gliding but i would consider the risk pretty similar. It might be different in a desert area tho, where conditions are usually strong and bombing out is never really a problem considering the landing options - in such a spot, paragliding might be more dangerous than hang gliding.
