    I think it's an amazing way to do it-no cutting the asphalt, using less asphalt, and all while recycling the old asphalt. Well Done 👏

    Also might want to point out that a hot patches are FAR more structurally sound than cold patches. A vibratory plate is much better than a hand tamp for achieving uniform density. ( Customers love to hear this. ) We do one pot hole, we're charging a minimum of $300. ( Here in Oakland County Mich, I've been in the paving business for over 30 years. $300 hot patch = 12 to 15 years of no pot hole. $300 is a bargain ) ;)

      And, they didn't compact long enough to attain the required compaction level. The biggest fault I see with the process shown is they scraped the asphalt back to the cool edge, thus creating a cold joint. The idea is to stay out in the hot (200+) area for your joint. Then it's seamless.

      @@charlesrobertson3997 so don’t bring all the way past hot area?

    • @charlesrobertson3997
      @charlesrobertson3997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jackstrawfromwichita5016 Nope. You want to stop working the asphalt when the temp gets below 200 degs so keep the edge out in the hot area. Then you don't have a cold joint on the patch. Also, you wont get the desired compaction until the mix gets down to around 180 degs, depending on the mix.
