Was trying to paint inlays on valve covers, air cleaner, etc. I gave up on trying to mask the parts. This could probably be done but not without going way over on estimate. I would also need a new exacto knife blade and a stickier masking tape which would be more money. Best to just throw in the towel.

    Guess I was lucky (I'm also finding a few items impossible to get now), found a decent heater box for my 57 Deluxe Htr last fall, in my local Tri-Five "guy's" junk pile. It was complete with the rubber seal, a repairable flapper and a working resistor!. It was all missing when I bought the car, (it had a really old Vintage A/C setup with an under dash unit the size of a school bus) Being in Canada, always wanted to return it to stock (a working defroster is a good thing spring & fall mornings on the way to a cruise-in) The seal was old, the box was a little rough, but it cleaned up nice. (glad I didn't toss that seal) I'm for sure stealing your PCV grommet/Htr core detail. Also rethinking the air cleaner with a spacer setup (never gave that thought, thanks!) Love your work, you've helped me out a lot. All the best for 2025.

    If you need spacers on the heater box, you can make some by cutting pieces of copper pipe if you don't have some metal tubing.

    The acorn nuts are awesome. I used them with studs to hold down my center bolt chevy valve covers.btw ace hardware sells deep acorn nuts that are about 1/8 inch deeper than standard ones if needed in stainless.

    I learned so much from you over the years it's unbelievable but please put a towel over that carburetor so nothing Falls in there. I understand the choke is closed but still if a little screw winds up there you're not going to see it you're going to start it up after all this work you don't want to be pulling that engine apart..

    This video (and the previous one) are perfect timing for my ‘55 (Nomad) project. This car came to me as a rolling empty shell and all of the original fasteners/doo-dads are long gone. This is my first Tri-5 and I’m at the stage of “test fitting” the doors/front clip/etc. and I’m scratching my head trying to figure out how the factory put stuff together. This is Al extremely helpful!

    Those Amazon little hand airpump pillows Rob work great maybe you know about them for adjusting tri-five doors. I used them recently just put them in between the area to be moved up or down. Close the door pump them up & adjust and tighten the bolts with the door closed from inside .

    Have a hydrovac system on my 56. Runs off the power steering. Not dependent on vacuum, so you run any cam. Practically stands the car on it's nose.

    Beautiful car. On the VintageAir, if he decides later to buy one, make sure it's Gen IV, and he will only need to pay someone to charge it. All the hoses are made to fit. I put one in my 56 and the only issue I had was the airbox being tight to install. Very nice car though!

    Over my life I have never used anything but stock motor mounts on these cars . I've had 23 of them .7 with big blocks . Never broke mounts or altered the firewall . I don't understand people changing the mounts . I have notched the frame and boxed it for fuel pumps

    • @haffrods7055
      @haffrods7055 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      GM went through the trouble of re casting blocks with side bosses for a reason. My dad broke his left front mount in 1962 and caused it to hang the throttle open. Lots of guys still run front mounts but it only takes one time for it to break. Could cause a serious accident. So the reason is safety. I'm not interested in crashing my restored cars with thousands of dollars in them over a $100 mount kit.

      @haffrods7055 the Trans mount broke . I always drill a hole in a new one and put a 7/16 bolt through it and weld the nut . An old man's trick .I appreciate the time , skill and resources you put into your cars . But as an old man ,,,,,, they are just cars to me . Keep teaching the youngsters .
