the game was awful at release, extremely buggy mess with terrible false advertisement that wasn't anywhere close to the actual game all charged for full price, the game didn't even release with a score board, it absolutely deserved all the criticism it got and people shouldn't forget that because even now despite admitedly having gotten a bit better it is still a mediocre game handicaped by its very weak foundations, the core features are still all extremely sub-par and in a lot of cases a straight downgrade compared to way older BF titles (looking you environemental destruction), it essentially became a CoD with even the same graphics as a CoD (actually worse but the same tone) and the cringe atmosphere where the game doesn't even take itself seriously despite being set in WW3 (cringe post battle dialogue and podium as if it was a sport) just on a bigger map with some vehicles and lost all identity it's supposed to have as a Battlefield, hell it's so bad that if you compare it to BFV which came out years before you can think that BFV came out after it. Some people say "people were saying the same thing about BFV but now they're saying it is great", BFV had actually good foundations, it was just riddled with bugs, didn't take itself seriously with the cringe customization and had an awful ad campaign where the devs said "don't like it don't buy it" after the criticism of the female metallic arm British soldier in the trailer which hilariously people didn't buy it and they panicked and fired the guy who said that, it was also a warranted criticism don't get me wrong but it actually massively improved in the areas it was lacking in, a shame it and Battlefront 2 were abandonned for the turd that was and still is 2042

This game is just so ass it wouldnot be a surprise if the next battlefield is gonna be worse

During the development the veterans that created the engine in which the bf games are made left the studio do make their own ips(the finals), and EA didn't give the newbie developers time to learn how to program on it and how to make a bf game, so they kinda released a pre alpha project and had to learn how to make it after release, the hate served as feedback and they managed to turn that mess upside down, that's why it's so hated by the people that played on release but loved by anyone that starts playing today.
