How I Traveled to See Taylor Swift FOR FREE (Free Flights, Hotels, & Food)
มุมมอง 2086 หลายเดือนก่อน
Want to travel to see Taylor Swift for free? Here’s how I used credit card travel hacking to get myself to the Taylor Swift concert in LA for FREE, including my flights and hotel. As someone who has listened to Taylor Swift for over a decade and had only been to one Taylor Swift concert, I was dying to go to the Eras Tour. I had tickets to Loverfest (her Lover tour) here in France, where I live...

The excellent video gives an idea of the cost of living in Nice. Nicely detailed the basic needs. Thank you
Glad it was helpful! (:
You're internet and phones are a crazy price
Like crazy high or crazy low? Lol honestly I know I can find cheaper I just am too overwhelmed by the process and keep leaving it as is
Such a beautiful city! Can't wait to visit!
Can’t wait for you to visit me 😘
Thanks very much for that breakdown of costs. I would love to hear more about the tricky bits of finding a guarantor, finding a bank, how you finessed a visa for remote work.
Great idea, I’ll make a video about that process!! A quick answer tho, I used guarantme which is a company that will be your guarantor for $$. You just have to find an agency that is willing to work with them!
Did you speak French before you moved to France? The language is daunting to learn.
I totally agree, French has been hard. I took online classes through italki, but I was a beginner for sure and still kind of am! I can get by but I’m still working on it.
Interesting. But it would have been good for you to list average rents based on what's posted on websites.
First Of all Happy Thanks Giving Day wishes! In my ever inquisitive search for living in Europe bumped into your channel and was amazed by the excellent info on Nice with solid details. Great Job!. As for myself a retired US citizen with a very good affordability and the budget you mentioned is a NO issue. Since you have been living in France for 3 years who else can better answer some common questions from US wannabees wanting to long term settle (Absolutely NO Intent to work) in France. At a minimum my goal is to spend 2 years in Europe to be able to travel around and if I like it call it a permanent place to live. So that being said some questions below. 1. Understand France has a long term visa for non EU retirees, based on minimum financial passive income requirements. How easy / quick one can get and how long is it valid. 2. Also heard from various sites that with the retiree visa you can get into the French heath care system. However, I wont mind spending on a private insurance if it comes to that. Only thing being the premium being a senior citizen retiree age group. 3. What is the Tax system in France. I have income from Social security, Employer pension, investment income from stocks/Mutual fund etc. Are all these incomes taxable in France and the tax rates. I do realize that US and France have a dual tax treaty where you don't pay taxes to both countries but in some countries the one with the higher tax will get you on taxes. 4. Visited Nice right after the Covid days and loved it. We stayed close to the Nice Ville train station on Rue Mirabeau a beautiful location 15 min walk to the beach promenade. Loved it. 5. what would be rent for a 2 Br apartment near where you stay or close by. May be you should create a video addressing the above questions for the benefit of folks like us. Thank you in advance.
Were you able to officially change your address to France with Schwab? I hear stories of Schwab closing accounts when move out of US.
I use my mother in law's address for all my US bank accounts. I definitely wouldn't try to switch if you have someone you trust in the US / an address in the US where you can get your cards sent!
@ Ah thanks!
There’s already a housing shortage here please don’t promote more people moving here. Eventually, the people of Nice are going to resent us for driving up there housing costs.
Oh, have you met Tim and Mr. Boo from the Mi and mon Ami channel? I think they live in Nice too.
I haven’t met them but I’ve seen them around a couple times and you can’t miss their little car!!
@@happilyevertravels Maybe there is a "collab" opportunity there? They are always visiting interesting places. But you know best.
@@prieten49 one day that would be awesome! I've definitely visited places cuz I saw they went there!
Im actually living in Nice myself as a single person. I do have a bigger apartment which does cost more, but I also have visitors coming. I pretty much have a set budget of 3600€ ($4000), but I really try to keep it under 3k€ just so I have an emergency buffer. I am only here going on 1 month in my apartment so I’m going to take a deeper look at my spending. I do compare it to my life in FL, and I know I’m spending less. Not having a car in Fl vs not having a car in Nice is a world apart. I can easily get by with either walking or taking public transportation. Love the tram. Groceries are not as expensive as in the US. Nice video!
Yes exactly; you’ll spend less living here without even trying just by how easy it is to get around / not owning a car.
$1700 - $1800 cost of living for a "Couple".
Yup! So it can be cheaper in some ways if you’re single. But we’re married so I didn’t split this in half, everything is the full price!
yeah maybe if you are very cheap but i think it's the minimum honestly and i am french
BRILLIANT, WELL EXPLAINED VIDEO. THANK YOU. you have a new subscriber. From NYC perspective, Nice is a bargain!
Oh wow thank you so much for the kind comment! And yes I bet holy crap NYC seems so spendy but I bet there’s a ton to do/ fun place to live
I prefer making my own meals also and have always wanted to not need a car .
Same, I love making my own meals! The only thing i love eating out is pizza, coffee, and obviously French pastries 🥐
What about income taxes in France as a US citizen? What’s the cost for you?
You're giving yourselves a great education and living bravely . you wont regret it . cheers .
Great cost overview. Thank you very much. I've used the crowd-sourced website Numbeo to compare cost if living between cities all over the world. I think your numbers are in line with what others have submitted there.
Did you guys used an agent and a guarantor to secure your rental? How did you find your place? From what I heard it can be quite challenging for non-French resident to rent in France. How was your experience?
Hey! Yes we used an agent and we have a guarantor, since that was a one time expense for the agent I left that out but I could make another video explaining how we did it if people are interested in the process! On my blog “happily ever travels” you can search for our apartment hunting story, it’s super detailed!
Great video! I was in Nice in the early 90's but didn't do enough sight-seeing while there. I''m now researching where in France to relocate to. I'd really appreciate a video about how you obtained a guarantor and used an agent to land your rental apt. Obtaining a long term rental in France is the thing I'm most concerned about. Thanks!
GOOD PLACE TO START YOUR CHANNEL. THINKING ABOUT RELOCATING FROM US TO NICE. VERY HELPFU. BTW I THINK YOUR COSTS ARE FOR A OUPLE.
Thank you! And yes costs are for a couple, so it wouldn’t necessarily be half for a single person, but a bit cheaper for sure!
What are some neighborhoods in Nice you recommend to look for an apartment? Can you do this on your own or do you suggest hiring an agent to help find housing? Does your rent include furnishings or did you need to buy your own furniture or appliances?
Was just going to ask that!
Im living in Riquier which is a few minutes away from Old Town. It’s more residential vs touristy. Staying away from the real touristy areas is better for your pocketbook as well.
I think riquier is the best neighborhood at the moment, with the port and cimiez as the next best! I got an unfurnished apartment so we bought all our own stuff. After being digital nomads for 5 years I really wanted my own things! We used Adrian Leeds group to find our apartment both times, I’ll have to make a video about that
@ exactly where I am. I’m within 5 minutes of walking to either trams 1 or 2.
it's not ocean, it's the sea (mediterranée)
This is very comprehensive.
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Thanks for the informative video. I'll be moving there soon. Can you say the name of your bank and Internet provider?
Yay glad to hear it! We use SFR since they have fiber in our building
What are the recommended language classes? Costs?
I recommend italki lessons if you want to do online class! If not there’s a few great schools here, look up “alliance francaise review happily ever travels” for my blog posts on that school!
Really insightful. It would be good to see the costs of a single person compared to a couple. And the costs of eating out once or twice a week at a cheap but tasty restaurant. But generally, it's a great overview and definitely much cheaper than I expected. I'm living in a rural town (not city) in the UK paying around 1,300 euros (pounds) a month in rent and up to 300 euros on utilities in winter a month. And added to that the food and weather are awful here. I'm in the wrong place! Would love to hear more about moving to France and relocating. Thanks for your video.
i would say a cheap but good restaurant is probably 30 / 40 euros for one person (you can find cheaper and more expensive of cousre) ( i am french)
I have some friends that I could ask for their numbers on this and get back to you, but like the other commenter said, depends on what you get but 20-40 is a good range! We have really Napoli pizza close by for 15 euros per pizza. Great Indian food for around 15 per person
@@happilyevertravels It sounds like a good price. Not too expensive. Honestly, France just sounds so lovely compared to the UK.
You just need a visa.
Wow! That's way more affordable than I was expecting. We'll have to check out Nice now! Thanks for sharing!
Right?! I feel like most wouldn’t expect it to be this affordable! Definitely come check it out!
Is Toulon a better alternative?
i am french toulon is cheaper but i won't live there , less beautiful and less safe but you have to be aware that france have safety issues with islamics people all over the country Best place if you don't have to work to live is Corsica in France (best climat , most beautiful beach etc..) but it is an island like maybe hawaii for you
I'm not sure, I haven't been to Toulon yet!
I have two questions: 1. How much is baguette 2. How much is croissant 3. Mr bean Cannes film festival?
1. Baguette: 1,20 (inflation🤦♀️) 2. Croissant: 1,30 3. That’s the one!
concur - we are also in Nice and yep - those prices for a croissant and baguette are pretty standard - maybe like a 0.05 centime difference here or there but pretty standard
Just moved to a small village in SW France from Seattle two months ago and Nice will probably be my next move in September. Any input on where or where not to live in Nice??? Very informative video!
@@christhompson5553 I recommend Riquier, Cimiez, Le port for a good location and still affordable. I don't recommend Gambetta area. Carre d'or / jean medecin / Californie are more expensive.
A lot cheaper than most people think! Love it here. Fantastic video!
agreed! way cheaper than most cities in the US at least! thanks (:
How much do you think it costs to live in Nice, France? Comment your guesses and let me know if you got it right! <3
Bonjour. Excellent video. We are exploring the coastal areas from Portugal to Italy soon, hoping to find our perfect place to enjoy our retirement. Thank you. Merci! Dean et Cindy
@@DeanRamser if you like france give a look to Corsica (it's a french island)
I was shocked. YT randomly suggested your video, and I was intrigued. Rents here in the US Northeast have been mostly over $1000 a month for decades. I love that your video kept things so real. I'm tired of all the glossy, perfect images. I coukd relate to the duct-taped AC!
@@raquelraccoon4681 thank you! yes for sure life is amazing here in France, but it's definitely still real life. just wait till I film my apartment tour video, I bet some people would not like my apartment lol but I love it!
@@DeanRamser Hey dean! that's awesome, I'm thinking about making a video about why to choose France over Italy. I absolutely love Italy and originally wanted to move there, but in the end I think France is better, from visas to how France uses taxes to keep the cities a bit nicer, etc. thanks for watching the video!
how could you get a credit card in Europe?
I don't have any Europe credit cards, I keep all mine in the US. I have a French bank account, US bank accounts and US credit cards. I've maintained that with help from my mother in law over the past 8 years (we moved abroad in 2017)
Strikes in France,... well, guess what, you would never benefit any of the current social, healthcare and work system without revolutions and strikes (everyone needs a good revolution ones in while).
agreed!! I'm definitely pro-strikes and workers rights, just thought I'd mention it since it can sometimes cause problems with public transport.
I’m seriously looking into it.
glad to hear it!!
You couldn’t even pay me to go to The Taylor Swift concert. Just a bunch of CIA propaganda
haha don't worry, even if you wanted to pay to go to Taylor Swift you'd have to fight for a ticket
#6 tip for delivery : use "point relay", your order will be delivered in a shop nearby and you can pick it up when you want.
yes definitely, great tip!
Bro, a few inconveniences in exchange for cheaper rent, healthcare, a whole different cuisine, and awesome work life balance?? SIGN ME UP 🤩
Exactly my point! these cons are barely cons lol France is awesome
Thanks for sharing the tips, I've already started planning.🕺
😍 amazing tips thanks for sharing!!
Glad you liked it!! (:
Are you traveling to see the Eras Tour? Where are you headed? Let me know in the comments! (:
Taylor Swift here I come! Love this video!
Wish you were coming with me to Edinburgh! Next time 😘
Marseille airport serves many locations and is accessible by ter train (you then need to ride the bus from vitrioles train station to airport which takes 5 mnish, and costs 1,40 euros. It’s interesting if you live within the area that has a train station nearby. I would say 1hr away by train isn’t bad. If you live near a tgv station then you can reach paris CDG airport easily. But tgv can be costly. I feel like nice is really practical for flying out.
You need to buy an ac unit before summertime so price is affordable, you can buy them either with the tube going out or buy one that is a split, so the noise making unit stays outside and the cool making unit stays inside, it’s still a mobile unit (unlike the one you install on the wall). Make sure you buy one that’s powerful enough for the size of your room/apartment. 12,000 btu should be good for most spaces
You’ve got me really considering buying one this month lol I have a window unit but I’m actually so scared about how hot this summer is gonna get!!
I lived in California and you’re right there are no good Mexican food. It’s the truth. But you can make it at home and order black beans and other hard to find ingredients.
I brought some cans of refried beans from the states and we can make some pretty decent burritos & quesadillas, but I could never cook as well as going out to Mexican food 😭
really perfect video (and links) for me at this time, thanks. best wishes on your Happily Ever Travels and life!
Getting things in motion to relocate to a part in Europe. I am currently learning French because I plan to relocate within 2 yrs. This has been some really good advice. Merci Bo coup.
awesome, that's a great plan I hope you get to move to Europe. It's the best!
Loved this!
This video has been sooo helpful! Hoping to make the move soon myself 🙂
thank you! glad you liked it, where in france are you planning on moving to? (:
I have visited Nice, FR as a college student and dying to go back. Appreciate the reminders of how you can take the train to Italy and other countries. So cool. I was wondering if you liked Italy as well? I noticed Italians seem warmer and more accepting, and French more reserved and distant. However, I am of French descent (Cajun French) and enamored with the language, culture and food, of course! Any thoughts?
I love Italy! It was actually our first choice but the visas were too difficult and we ended up loving nice instead! But we go to Italy every year and I speak Italian because I’m so obsessed (: last year we did Calabria and it was incredible. I agree that Italian people are warmer, but the French aren’t necessarily cold, just colder than Italians. I feel like it would be easier to make friends in Italy but I haven’t lived there long enough to know for sure!
I am highly thinking about moving but I am not sure the best places to live when looking for an environmental sustainability job, help please 😅
Hmmm since I work from home I’m not sure, but France is usually good about environmental sustainability. I would look into Bordeaux or Lyon, if not Paris. Are you already in that field? Maybe transferring would work!
If you look for international companies you must live in the biggest cities. You do not need to live in Paris. There are very beautiful cities such as Lyon and Bordeaux that offer a great life quality and where you can find jobs for English speakers.
We will be moving close to Cannes next summer and I can't wait to get there!
That’s so exciting! Hope you love it there (:
Agree with nearly everything you mentioned except...I've lived in Chicago for 6 years and don't own a car. We have a subway and bus system that takes you everywhere and I rent a car every few months if I need to. Just saying....NYC is not the only place with public transit.
True! NYC, Chicago, and maybe parts of LA. Wish the US had a better public transport system so cars weren't the only option!
