      It is important to stay calm. Becoming anxious often leads to problems. Trying to quickly solve a problem often leads to more problems. It is best to rename a file before making changes. Then, if you encounter problems, you can always resort to the original file and begin again to find a solution.

    There is something seriously wrong with my Libre Office Writer. It doesn't matter what I do. My inserted page number will only read: "Page number". It does not change from page to page, it won't become any numerals; roman or otherwise. It just reads: "Page number". *EDIT: Solved it. I accidentally had the option View > Field Names (Ctrl+F9) turned on. This makes it so that all fields show up as their names rather than what they contain.*

    Thankyou for a useful tutorial on setting up LibreOffice. You can speed up the applying page styles process by modifying the chapter title paragraph style. Go to “Text Flow” tab > Breaks > Check Insert > Type: Page Break > Position: Before, > Check With style > Select Chapter first page style. This automatically sets the page style when you set the chapter title.

  • @christopherkirkland7174
    @christopherkirkland7174 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I understand there is only so much you can get into a video session. There is one thing that can speed up the selection of page styles though. You can automate the page break for each Chapter by modifying the paragraph style for Chapter Title > Go to the Text Flow tab > Check the Breaks box > Select the type: Page > Position: Before > Check the box "With page style" and select the _Chapter page style. When you select the chapter title style you will automatically get the correct page style with it. Best wishes. Thanks for the videos.

    For formatting Libre Office page numbers to start on page two (or greater) after a Title Page; getting chapter numbers organised; and adjusting page number height in margin, the following seems to work when saving and opening in Word format even when applied on a Mac! Use Heading 1 for chapter numbers, it comes with indent for centering. You can change font etc. See Format > Title Page See Tools > Chapter Numbering For Chapter numbers at top of required page see Headings 1 Text Flow Settings. For height of page number in margin: Click on head and/or Footer and adjust vertical ruler (View > Rulers > Vertical Ruler from) The easiest way is by dragging the height markers for the header and footer. The marker is located on the vertical ruler, which also shows page top and bottom margins. The horizontal ruler across the top of the workspace is visible by default but the vertical ruler on the left is hidden by default. To enable the vertical ruler, click on the header/footer > View > Rulers > Vertical Rulers and use curser to move top segment of vertical ruler up.

    Dear Don, permit me to say that your tutorials are but magnificent.. The things you have shown goes straight to the point and you explain step by step what you are doing. And your charming voice goes like a fable tell. It was exactly what i was looking for, however you have condensed years and years of you knowledge into a 20 minute video, and will take may rev-viewing before to grasp each step you have shown. It's true also that there are many different book styles, and more esoteric aspects of book ratio, and the more one looks into it, the more things gets complicated if one wanted to do the whole binding himself. I have noticed that when you made the page break of "My chapter" the new page did not had the number and this happened every time you broke the page. Something i was also having problems with, was to set a custom height for the "page number", however evidently i didn't spend enough time on this. Thanks a lot for your work, may you be blessed.

      Thank you for your kind words. It takes many hours to make each video. A lung condition requires that I stop often when recording the audio in order to catch my breath. Then, I must match the video to the audio. I might have been able to explain things better if I took more time, but I try to keep my videos short enough that people will watch them. I've also published a course on Udemy called "LibreOffice Writer Advanced Concepts" that is probably the equivalent of at least a full semester university course on the subject of mastering the use of LibreOffice Writer features. Few people seem to have found or been interested in this course. I sometimes get discouraged that my many hundreds of hours of work seem to be helping so few people. Words such as yours provide encouragement to keep trying.

    • @SimiliaSC

      Dear Don, yes i have seen your course and i will surely buy it in the next few weeks. It would be nice (since i haven't found much in this regards) if you could make some content for "side notes", since they are so elegant when well placed in the text. a nice example can be found in the book "The elements of typographic style by Robert Bringhurst." Someone suggested to use: Insert>frame, however the tabs looks somewhat intimidating for the layman, always if you haven't treated of this in your udemy course... In regards to what you wrote about the few people being interested, i believe its because of youtube's algorithm. I am pretty sure that you could invest some money in advertising and using this as a way to enhance the algorithm. If it wasn't for my specific question formulation, i wouldn't never found your video, something to keep in mind,, Content is only part of the game, but good advertising makes you pop out of the crowd. Also you could use more keywords/hashtags for your videos, so that whoever is searching keywords for "Libreoffice-bookdesign-self publishing-printing signatures and things like that, has more chance to get to you, even tho nowadays people like to use paid software to do the job. You may also want to find someone who is an expert in web/youtube marketing, so that he could do all this electronic web-advertising, since he might know very well how the algorythm works, you may probably know of Fiver, the website where you can hire people that can offer this service. If i was in you i would have hired one of those figures, so that i could have kept my focus on creating new content.@@DonMatschull

      I believe the lesson on “Sidebars” in my LibreOffice Writer Advance Concepts course may provide information you are looking for regarding “side notes”. Because of my limited income, I cannot afford advertising. My TH-cam videos do not provide me with income, and Udemy pays me only a small percentage of what customers spend. I’ve tried experimenting with keywords and hashtags, but may need to experiment more. I too have experienced problems with searches on the internet. I even experimented searching my name only to find links to pages that didn’t even mention my name.@@SimiliaSC
