Brilliant cover!

Oh wow, never seen this sequence before. I used to watch this loads, but obviously not when these titles were used. Has to be series one only, right? I don't think they work very well. It spends too long promoting the BBC, before it reveals Clive Anderson. It needed to get in there straight away and sell the personality. I guess they were trying to promote the fact that he was now on the BBC, rather than Channel 4, but it's not a strong enough selling point to emphasise in that way. I used to love this. Good banter. But the Bee Gees' incident really killed the show. In direct response, they quickly toned down the jokey putdowns and removed the desk to try and make it a little more friendly towards the guests. But it wasn't as good, the whole point of the show was about the sparring humour. I'm not fond of nasty TV, like Never Mind The Buzzcocks, but I don't think Clive Anderson really was nasty. Biting, but not nasty. The problem with the Bee Gees interview was that Barry Gibb didn't understand or appreciate that kind of humour, which is fair enough I suppose. But Clive didn't read the signals well, and kept pushing until Barry said enough. But the show got watered down, after that. It lost its edge.

Why does he look awkward at the applause? The audience were obviously happy to be there, he should have just enjoyed it!
