Thanks for the summary, I definitely fumbled the delivery on that background, and continue to refer to Jamandi Aldori in various ways, mostly inaccurately. Fortunately at this stage, the group's main focus is "rich NPC asks them to go on an adventure", so they arent looking closely at the background, and honestly would not remember that level for most of the first chapters.

@Halfling13_Roleplay Hey, thnx! Those are a couple of really neat changes there. Have you made any houserule changes to Cooking or Wilderness Crafting/Harvesting for it as well? 🤓👍

not as of yet, but have been considering options. Since they have just started the wilderness, everyone has been very careful to be well stocked, and as such have not done much harvesting yet. I am not really happy with the core camping mechanics of the campaign (its very dry and mechanical), so likely will boil it down to a simple series of tests and then move on with the storyline. Once they are established and experienced, it likely will just be forgotten about as extra bookkeeping.

@Halfling13_Roleplay Gotcha. Are you coming from an older school style as your background? If so, then that may be one reason why it feels like it's that mechanical for you. I am as well, but leaning into it and adding lots of interesting choices and "flavor" to it could really help you. Either way that's cool though. 😎 👊🤓

most definitely old school - 45 years of GM'ing experience. more than open to new ideas though, I will look into the system a bit further and see how much it adds. Would certainly like to add different meals and options for minor buffs, those sort of concepts make a lot of sense. I just am concerned about spending excessive time for each hex of exploration dealing with the survival mechanics - there is a lot of travel so that will get dull quickly. However, it would make sense to compromise, and do a short camp scene right before the group enters a notable location.

Has always been a favorite of mine too, but have not been able to run the full story. Most of this group attempted it back when the original story was published years ago, but they only finished half of the first section. The expanded story fortunately gives them a few new surprises.

welcome to the channel, and glad you are enjoying the content. the group is really enjoying the campaign as well, though the extended investigations are challenging - they are much more action focused.

yep, the group skipped many of the side chambers and rooms, a lot of the background of the Wittgensteins was lost. Which one do you consider the most interesting?

@@Halfling13_Roleplay For me that is Ludwig von Wittgenstein, (The King of the roaches). I was curious on how the players would react to him, because he is not a hostile person, but hospitable, kind and cultured. I find him a tragic character. He also reminds me of a book I once read from Kafka, The Metamorphosis.

i can see that, and agree, he is an interesting character, and definitely not the usual combat encounter. It was a shame they missed the rest of the family, though with our free form storyline, perhaps they can still be used.

Awesome, glad you are enjoying our misadventures. This campaign is certainly challenging, but fortunately the group gives me plenty of time on their own distractions to pre-plan sessions. I will check on the audio, I suspect TH-cam may be artificially reducing the volume since I had similar comments on our tabletop wargame videos. I will adjust them upwards as much as I can. For the group talking over each other, that is more problematic, they can get rather excited and fortunately are blind to the microphones now, but I will remind them.

Yea it could be that they only reduce the volume somehow. Its managable though and the quality is ok. :) Actually you did tell someone in the group later that episode and it worked. But I know how it is as a GM, you dont want them to stop being excited. Thats the most important thing @@Halfling13_Roleplay

unfortunately no, when this campaign originally started, I didnt have any of the equipment for recording. I have since slowly improved our configuration, but the initial prequel sessions were lost.

yep, that has been a constant struggle, some sessions are better than others. At this point, I think I have it mostly solved, but our earlier videos are a bit more rough.

i see that now, very interesting. On the desktop TH-cam, I find it under the "three dots" for each of the videos. That is auto-generated, I have no control over it, but I am not sure how quickly TH-cam adds it. I checked my currently pending videos for Friday, and it indeed shows up there already.

@@Halfling13_Roleplay - cool, glad I wasn't going crazy (neither of us was!). The transcript makes it easier to find specific scenes, very helpful to get additional perspectives! (I'm a couple of sessions into DOTR, running it for the third time, but not for 20+ years!)

Awesome to see more players getting into these classic adventures and playing more Warhammer. We are sticking to the bones of the campaign, but our group does tend to wander, and our custom combat system is obviously non-standard. But everyone is enjoying the story thus far, and there have been a few shocks and surprises.

@@Halfling13_Roleplay - Iactually have a fair bit of MERP / RMSS under my belt...but even further in the distant past! We're enjoying 4e for the most part, but the idea of using the crit tables from RMSS obviously has appeal!

Wow, MERP is an old one, haven't seen anyone play that in ages, but I have fond memories of my characters. RMSS was always our choice of game back in the day, but we modified even that at the time. For Warhammer, I am finding it actually very easy to convert the combat system, and the Arms Law mechanics translate well. The biggest issue has really been in magic - Warhammer FRP doesn't translate cleanly to Spell Law, so it has been a bit of a give and take.

I dont typically create those, but admittedly with the audio challenges on some of the videos, it might be worthwhile. Let me see what options I have to create them, and add to future videos

@@Halfling13_Roleplay some (many / all?) of the other videos did have transcripts. Anything you can do would be appreciated!

I assume you are referring to subtitles. I have not in the past specifically created those, I believe they are auto-generated by TH-cam. However, that doesn't appear to be happening any longer - at least not reliably. I will add it to my workflow, and see what I can do for older videos.

@@Halfling13_Roleplay huh, maybe I was confused, could have sworn I saw an auto-generated transcript (not subtitles, it's in the description / comments section) for another of your videos, while I was searching for the relevant episode I wanted to listen to. If I find what I was looking at I'll let you know.

it is one of our favorites as well, and one of the few campaigns I managed to finish with a full group (of 10 players), over a 3 year period.

Unfortunately, our Rise of the Runelords campaign wrapped up several years ago, this was a very early effort I had put together back in 2015 or so, but felt it might be of benefit to others. Although some of our campaign episodes were recorded, it was spotty at best, and definitely much lower quality - I opted not to re-upload with my recent channel re-organization. However, both our Extinction Curse and Carrion Crown campaigns are going strong still, with plenty of content if there is interest.
